I've used this yarn to crochet afghans and for making a coat with my Ultimate Knitting Machine. This is not a good yarn for the knitting machine, because it often gets caught on the needles. It is a bulky yarn which works up quickly, so if you want a quick project, this will do it. However, I warn that beginners should start with a different variety of yarn. It's difficult to see the stitches in this yarn, so I often had to work by feel.
The yarn is soft right out of the skein. The colors are rich. The projects always turn out beautifully. The only problem with it is the ends unravel. Do not use it in a fringe or anywhere else the ends will be exposed. I've read once that the ends of Homespun yarn needs to be knotted to make the fringe, but I think that looks awful, too.
PROS:
+ soft and silky to touch
+ bulky weight makes quick projects
+ gorgeous colors
CONS:
- difficult to see stitches, not recommended for beginners
- exposed ends unravel
I think this is a very nice yarn. The only reason I don't use it more often is that it's so popular that people recognize it the minute they see it. I like my yarn to be a little more mysterious. Regardless, it makes beautiful afghans.

UPDATE: Try combining this with Homespun Golden, Chili, Russet, Bourbon, Apple Green, Herb Garden and Wild Fire. It's colorful, but looks great together.

Cozy up with an American-made bulky fiber that makes quick work of large projects like afghans, shawls, sweaters, or throws. Consider smaller projects for snuggly slippers or fingerless gloves because of the oh-so-soft feel. This skein of yarn features various color tones that combine in a way that cause them to subtly stripe, while its silky soft touch makes it hard to put down for knitters and crocheters alike. Another bonus, the warm and budget-friendly yarn comes from a New Hampshire mill that has run on hydro-generated power since 1915. Each skein measures 185 yards (6 ounces/170 grams) and consists of 98-percent acrylic and 2-percent polyester, translating to easy machine wash-and-dry care for finished projects. The knitting gauge: 4 inches equals 14 stitches on size 10 needles; the gauge for crochet: 4 inches equals 10 single crochets with a K-10-1/2 crochet hook. The skein measures approximately 3-1/2 by 3-1/2 by 10 inches.
