I was a little skeptical because this is not the exact same version of this product as sold by 1stline, but I tried it out anyway. It did a fantastic job on my LeLit pl53 grinder, and it works significantly better now. Oily beans can really do a number on your high-end grinder, and having a cleaner like this around is a must!

Durgol Swiss Espresso Decalcifier Review

I bought a De Longhi Magnifica Super Automatic espresso machine from Starbucks about 2 years ago. I use it almost everyday and since buying it, I have descaled it usually once a month, even though the automatic descaler indicator did not warn me to do so. I was using the descaler that was sold at Starbucks not knowing that the powder was actually not good for the internal components of the machine. Eventually, the steam wand would not work and I would constantly get a message that the beans were too fine and to adjust the grinder. When I called CS, they told me to use the Durgol. Thank goodness they did! After 1 cycle of descaling and dark, dirty deposits, the steam wand was back to normal. Yeah!!!

Krups F054 Anticalc Lime Descaller Kit Review

Krups F054 Anticalc Lime Descaller Kit
Average Reviews:

I bought the descaller (is it really spelled that way?) for my ancient Krups Il Primo espresso machine. No instructions came in the box. It took forever to get any help from Krups and then the instructions were for much fancier machines.
So here's what I did:
Dissolve the packet in 500ml of water. I did half a packet because my machine could not hold all that much.
Pour a third of the mixture into the machine. Steam some of it and let the rest go through the coffee basket.
Do that again.
Then heat it up and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. And then expell the mixture.
I found "crud" in the basket. Next time I will check the basket after each round.
I then ran plain water through the machine several times. Maybe it wasn't necessary but it made me feel better.

I'm reluctant to admit I had neglected the regular maintenance of my Carezza espresso machine for a year or two. While waiting for the Durgol Decalcifier to arrive in the mail, I flushed the machine with vinegar and cleaned the parts as described to get the cleaning process started. The machine still didn't work right. This Durgol product arrived today and I again flushed the machine according to directions, using this decaldifier. I'm amazed at the amount of sludge and disgusting grime that came out! This product is wonderful and has restored my espresso maker.

Maintaining an espresso machine can not only extend the life of the machine but also provide more consistent and flavorful espresso. One of the most common ways of cleaning the screen and group head is to backflush the machine with a small amount of cleaner. In order to perform this cleaning you will need a blind filter or backflush insert for the portafilter. Espresso Supply offers the Metal Backflush Insert (02070-STD) which fits all 58 millimeter portafilters for cleaning. Backflush cleaning is recommended for commercial espresso machines with a three-way valve.

I have owned Saeco espresso machines for more than five years. The machine has become part of my morning routine. An important maintenance task is Descaling the machine to keep the coffee fresh. Saeco 52400 Dezcal Descaler is the best product for the job. Amazon provided the marketplace to find the best deal on it.

Your espresso machine is a real pleaser as it makes rich, delicious coffee beverages. Keep your coffee tasting great by descaling it every few months. You will need to descale your machine every 3 to 6 months depending on the hardness of the water you are using in your machine. Even if you use filtered water you will need to descale your machine occasionally to remove traces of limescale from pipes, valves, and the boiler. If you are not already using filtered water then we would recommend that you do - even if you live in an area with soft water a water filter will still remove impurities and improve the taste. The harder the water is the more often you will need to descale your machine. Water test strips can be used to find out how hard the water is in your area. No matter how good your water filtration may be, you're still getting calcium in your boiler tank. While small amounts of calcium won't alter the flavor of your espresso too much, over time that small amount will grow into a large amount causing a very bitter flavor in your cup and eventually causing damage to your machine. Some machines actually cease operating if parts require descaling. The descaling procedure may vary depending on the type of machine and the descaling product being used.Specifically formulated to quickly and effectively descale the hot water tanks and components of coffee and espresso machinery. By removing mineral deposits which clog and impair brewing equipment, Dezcal allows machines to perform at optimal levels

Puro Caff, 20oz Review

Puro Caff, 20oz
Average Reviews:

My mother doesn't understand good coffee. She never cleans her drip maker, and she makes the worst coffee you can imagine because of it. I decided that I'd do her a favor and clean it for her. This turned out to be impossible, no matter how many cycles of vinegar, soap, cleaners, and good old fashioned elbow grease I used on it. The urn remained stubbornly brown with a black cake on the bottom. I thought ages of coffee sludge was going to be stuck on there forever and it was ruined. I'd figure I'd have to buy my mom a new maker for Christmas and try to get her to practice some better coffee hygiene habits (fat chance).
I told a friend of mine about my failed efforts, and she directed me to pick up this stuff instead. I was skeptical, given how bad off the maker was. She was just so enthusiastic about it that I finally gave in and ordered some. Low and behold --Two cycles and my mom's drip maker literally looked like it just came out of the box! Not a single speck of cooked on oil caked on anywhere! No scrubbing! I thought I heard the Hallelujah Chorus start up when I rinsed it out the second time. My mother and I were both pleased and I was finally able to enjoy a cup of coffee at her house for the first time in years.
When I went home and ran some through my own maker that I've been using the vinegar method on for years. I even tasted a difference in my own coffee, and I've been religious about keeping my drip maker clean! Or so I thought.
Color me impressed, and that's why I'm writing this review. You can't go wrong with this stuff, even on seriously tough cleaning jobs.

There's not much to say - if you own an espresso machine, you need this. Every time the machine boils water, any minerals fall out of solution - the harder your water the more minerals - resulting in sluggish performance as the heating element now has to heat through "stone". Used regularly, your machine will run as good as new, without the horrible smell and aftertastes of other decalcifiers, such as vinegar.

Urnex Cafiza, 20oz powder Review

Urnex Cafiza, 20oz powder

This is amazing stuff - it only takes a little powder to get a lot of coffee stains off of equipment. It also doesn't leave a flavor behind. When I first used this I was working as a barista in a bookstore and was amazed at how quickly the powder removed a day's worth of coffee grunge from our espresso machine and coffee pots. The only trouble we ever had with it was when we used too much powder - then the powder didn't fully dissolve and had to be wiped off. But even then it didn't affect the taste of the espresso the next morning. I would say for home use, you probably don't need more than a half teaspoon to clean out a coffee pot. I will probably purchase some once it comes back in stock!

Just my TWO CENTS:
Expensive to use? Bitter taste after usage? Not Recommended by OEM's? Use lemon juice? Maybe it's just me, but I really don't get it!
Unless you're using your machine commercially to make hundreds of shots per week, you're wasting your money, not to mention killing your machine by decalcifying constantly. I have nearly 6,000 shots (!) on my one year-old Saeco Incanto Sirius machine and I just finished my FIRST 3-package Cleancaf box. In all this time, the machine has only prompted me to decalcify ONCE. It bases this on a water pH test you perform at the time of new machine commissioning and the coresponding water hardness setting of the machine resulting from the set-up test. I ignore the prompt and just decalc every THREE months or so (i.e, like the package instructions recommend, LOL!) I've never noticed a decrease in water flow (during coffee or steam/hot water wand usage), nor has there been any decrease in coffee temperature. FWIW, I fill the machine reservoir (I have spare reservoir that I use for decalcifying only) all the way up with warm water and one packet of Cleancaf...it has a two-litre capacity. Then I rinse with TWO reservoirs full of clean warm water. It DOES take a while....the machine is next to the sink, so I aim the wand at the drain, let the thing go and walk away to do other things. I NEVER have an issue with taste after cleaning and I am anal about coffee taste, freshness and machine cleanliness. FWIW, the machine uses the Aqua Prima in-reservoir micropore and charcoal filter, and I use supermarket-brand spring water (loaded with mineral and micro-organisms, LOL) in the one-gallon jug (lots of them, with the amt. of espresso I brew, LOL!).
For those of you thinking of using a non-authorized acidic solution (lemon juice, vinegar, etc.) for decalcifying, think again. SAECO USA as well as Whole Latte Love (authorized SAECO sales/service) will tell you to use SAECO Dezcal (it's also made by Urnex)or Urnex Cleancaf ONLY for decalcification. They're non-toxic, bio-degradeable, chelation-process cleaners (Dezcal is weak sulfonic acid, Cleancaf is classified "non-hazardous" per their respective MSDS hazardous sheets). If you use lemon juice or white vinegar you will very likely cause water circuit damage and VOID your warrantee. Don't believe me, call the manufacturer and ask yourself...it's in the owner's manual as well. BTW, most Starbucks Barrista espresso machines are OEM'ed by SAECO in Bologna, Italia.
My machine has been in to the local factory authorized repair center (broken grinder...fixed FOC under the OEM warrantee), and they remarked on how spotless the machine was, inside, outside, in the brew circuit and in the hot water circuit...especially considering the amount of shots I make!
SAECO, WLL and the local warrantee station (The Repair Shack) also recommend Urnex Cafiza (I use the Tablets, you can also buy it in powder form) to keep the COFFEE circuit as spotless as the HOT WATER circuit. You can see it work as it "peels" the layers of stuck-on coffee residue that even constant rinsing on my part (remember, I am anal, LOL!) does not remove and flushes it out. That, my friends, DEFINITELY results in me being able to fully appreciate my Lavazza Super Crema-based espresso, caffe lungo (caffe crema) and capuccino with NO bitterness caused by a dirty machine! If you're going to spend the money on an expensive machine, and use expensive coffee, you might as well get great tasting caffe, right?
My vote: HIGHLY Recommended. Just use it sparingly and enjoy your coffee!

I got a sample of this product in my new Hamilton Beach Brew Station. The first time I used it, I could not believe how great it is.
Things I like:
Dissolve in 4 cups of water, pour in coffeemaker. Dissolves easily.
Run through the coffeemaker, then wipe and rinse parts. I said "wipe", not "scrub"! First one I ever used that I could do that. I was very impressed.
Two subsequent run throughs with clear water. The cleaner is tinted with a blue color, so that you can see if you have got it all rinsed out.
Then you are done. That's it. No more muss, fuss, or mess.
It does say to use it once a week. I find once a month is plenty for us, but that would depend on coffeemaker usage. Fabulous product.
