Tribest Green Star 3000 Deluxe Juicer/Juice Extractor Review

This juicer definitely produced the best juice. Put cool veggies and fruit in from the frig and get cool juice out, and the quality is outstanding. We have been juicing now for a month and we feel so much better. Because of the energy I get from the juice in the mornings, I was actually able to quick drinking coffee! While one of the other reviewers was correct in that this juicer does take up some counter space, the parts are definitely not made cheaply - at least on our model (the Green Star 3000). After all the junk that is being made these days, this machine is made of quality parts, and is actually a little bit heavy (but it has a nice handle).
We love our machine. We love having the best possible product coming out of our machine. The only drawback, and it is a slight one, it that the machine does take a few minutes to clean, and should be cleaned immediately after use. The parts are good quality, strong and durable, but not for use in a dishwasher (according to the manuafacturer.) If it were not for this, I would have given it five stars easily.
One hint: Plan you juicing ahead of time. Because the machine takes 4-5 minutes (for two people) to clean, and because of the quality of the product (the magnets and low speed and low heat which does allow the juice to remain fresh longer) we usually juice enough for two mornings at a time (for two adults). All told, between cutting up the veggies and fruit, the actual juicing, and cleaning up,it takes about 20 minutes every other day. This may seem a little long just for juicing, but for our health, it is way worth it!!

I did as much research as I could online for masticating juicers in this price range and then spent two days deciding between the Omega 8005 and the SoloStar II. Although the Omega seems to be the more dominant product, all the reviews on the SoloStar where excellent. I had hoped for more reviews on Amazon to help me out but there was only one person that had reviewed it. Hence, I'm adding my own to hopefully help someone else out. The juicer is terrific. I had it put together in a matter of a few minutes and as I stared at it, I knew I had to try it out. My other juicer is a centrifugal so I could hardly wait to see the difference. This juicer does an awesome job. I juiced celery, carrots, asparagus, grapes, and an apple right away. I was amazed at how much juice I got. I would have used twice that much fruit and vegetables in the centrifugal juicer. The pulp came out very dry and then for the best part...I had this thing taken apart washed and ready to go again in 3 minutes. It's that easy. Time to scrap the old juicer! If I had to completely dig for a complaint about the juicer I would have to say that I wish the chute was bigger; however, I don't think it is any bigger on any other juicer of this type. I also expected some instructions or a little recipe book and that was not there but no big deal. It did come with a VHS tape which I know I will never watch. The three selling points on this juicer for me where #1 - Dual Stage extraction (which really works - you can see the juice that other juicer would have lost come out of the second stage spout) #2 - Larger Auger #3 - Made by the same company that makes the highly acclaimed Green Star juicers (which are too expensive for me right now). So far, I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

DUAL-STAGE JUICING PROCESS SoloStar's new and exclusive Dual-Stage juicing process achieves greater efficiency than other Single-Auger juicers, which means that you get more juice from your produce. It works by filtering out juice during the initial crushing phase, before it can be reabsorbed into the pulp, and then squeezes the remaining pulp in the secondary pressing phase. More juice goes in your cup, and less stays behind in the pulp. VERSATILITY The SoloStar can handle virtually any fruit, vegetable, leafy green, herb, or grass that you can ever want to juice. If can also easily convert into a flat pasta or round noodle maker, and mochi mill, with its included accessories. QUALITY Solostar's low-speed Auger gently crushes and squeezes your produce, and will not heat up your juice, or destroy any of the precious nutrients and enzymes. Conventional high-speed centrifugal juicers fling your juice around, heat it up with blade or basket friction, and damage much of the nutrients, live enzymes, and fragile taste of the juice. The SoloStar delivers all the natural goodness and flavor that you should demand from a juicer.DURABILITY Only the highest quality, heavy duty materials were used in the construction of the SoloStar. Its excellence of design ensures that it'll be juicing for many years to come. SoloStar is UL approved, and meets the highest standards. SERVICE Tribest Corporation has been world renowned for bringing you the Green Power, Green Life and Green Star juicers. Now with the SoloStar, Tribest Corp. celebrates its 15th year of bringing you service, quality and value. Tribest is committed to your satisfaction, and are proud to be of service.

Tribest Soyabella Soymilk Maker Review

Tribest Soyabella Soymilk Maker
Average Reviews:

Awesome product, awesome result.
When buying an appliance, it is important to know what to expect - and not to expect - from it; many of the negative reviews for the Soyabella (and other soymilk makers) seem to be from people who had the wrong idea about what soymilk makers actually /do/.
When made the old-fashioned way, making your own soymilk consists (a) soaking the beans in cold water, (b) grinding the soaked beans into a paste, (c) two to four hours of simmering, skimming, and keeping pots of water and soybean-paste from boiling over, (d) straining resulting hot liquid to get out the bean fiber, and (e) seasoning to taste. It's not hard to do at home, but it's tiring and very time consuming. Automatic soymilk makers replace the hours of heating and processing beans and water into a milk-like solution with a casual 15-minute wait, and do some of the straining for you. They do /not/ fully strain the liquid (that takes too fine a sieve - it would clog incessantly) or conjure seasonings out of thin air.
If you're serious about getting the price savings (about a quarter the cost), energy and resource savings (no packaging or fuel used to get it to you) and convenience (no need to run to the store when you need more), be realistic about what the Soyabella will do for you - and you'll find yourself enjoying the best soymilk you've ever tasted.
And so:
1) Soak your beans for 8-12 hours.
2) Run the soymilk maker.
3) Pour the resulting soymilk through cheesecloth or a /very/ fine sieve, to remove the last 'gritty' particles.
4) If desired, season with a bit of salt, sweetener, and whatever else you fancy (vanilla anyone?)
We've been using our Soyabella for several weeks now, and have had consistent, delicious results. Not only is the soymilk excellent, but it makes a great-tasting tofu, as well. The okara (leftover bean mash - you're not throwing that stuff out, are you? It's a powerhouse of nutrition and a free bonus) is of similarly high quality, and has become a staple mixed into doughs for our breads, muffins, and even cookies.

Soyabella can even grind coffee beans and other dry ingredients with its convenient milling accessories. Soyabella is extremely convenient with different program settings that let you easily control temperature and grinding time with a single touch. Soyabella's multiple attachments allow you to create a cornucopia of recipes without difficult cleaning.

Tribest Yolife Yogurt Maker - YL-210 Review

Tribest Yolife Yogurt Maker - YL-210
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a firm believer that you need no special equipment to make yogurt. I have made yogurt many times using a double boiler and a styrofoam "beer cooler" as is available in various sizes at grocery and service stations every summer for about $4. (see my comments at the end)
However, if you want a maker "off the shelf" this is excellent. It has the following pluses:
* It's instructions actually allow effective production of decent yogurt without further ado or special "mixes" or extras.
* It's got the "high top" lid which allows fairly easy 92oz (3qts) of yogurt to be made at one time.. (I live alone and easily eat one to two quarts of yogurt a week.. it cut me out of my "ice cream addiction* haha as it satisfies my "cream crave"). My "thick yogurt method" takes prep time and the prep is the same whether I make an ounce or 3 quarts.. and it lasts easily 2-3 wks in the refrigerator.
* Although I would not rate it "superior" quality, it is decently made and has a 5yr warranty.. definitely above the norm.
* This makes inexpensive yogurt. (under $0.75 a quart for me) You can also use soy milk, goats' milk, etc to make your yogurts as well as add sweeteners and flavorings for variety. Check the internet for many variations. There are good sources.
* The small jars it comes with are handy if you're making a small amount or if you are doing it for children who all want different flavors.
* It's easy to clean (the small jars are glass.. the hardest items to clean). Rarely do you need to do much cleaning to the unit itself.
My method:
To make yogurt I simply put milk in a double boiler over slowly simmering water for about 30 minutes. I do this because I like THICK yogurt and the "fill and heat" method just doesn't make it thick like I like it. The yogurt I make is considerably stiffer than soft peak egg whites, though not so stiff as standing peaks.
After the heating (which loses about 10% of the volume by evaporation) I put hot tap water in my sink, and cool the pan to about 115 fairly quickly. Pour this into jars through a strainer to take out any scalded bits or solids from your mix.
I then pour some of this in a short glass and add a generous tablespoon of a previous batch for each quart of yogurt you're going to make (see note at end if you have no starter). Mix this starter bit until its smooth and divide among the jars you are going to use for the yogurt.
If you are going to add flavorings, this is the time to do it.
Put these jars in a warm place. It can be electric like this Tribest Yolife Yogurt Maker - YL-210 or just use a few jars of HOT FAUCET water as "heaters" in an insulated area. That's it. Yogurt cultures for some reason are VERY SENSITIVE to being stirred or shaken, so culture them where they won't be disturbed after you add the starter.
In about four hours you'll have yogurt that has firmed (leave it up to 12 hours if you like a sharper tasting yogurt.. added time doesn't make it thicker). Put the jars in the refrigerator until chilled. It will keep at least 2 weeks. It can be frozen indefinitely as well as making "yogurt ice cream".
Just as an added note, you can thicken the yogurt by adding about 1/4 cup powdered milk per quart to the milk before you heat it or by adding pectin or gelatin as a thickener. Thickeners likely will be required if you are using non-fat products.
If you like "greek style" or "yogurt cheese" simply take the yogurt you have made and pour it either into a fine cloth bag or a fine mesh strainer over a draining jar in the refrigerator for a day or so. You may also try the Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Cheese Maker. I haven't used it, but it should work. The liquid "whey" will drain off leaving a thicker, creamier product. I don't do this normally, but if done in my style it approaches the consistency of soft cream cheese.
*NOTE: If you don't have leftover yogurt for starter, I started my first batch with Dannon PLAIN (read on the side that it has active cultures and NO OTHER INGREDIENTS except milk on its contents) This can be frozen easily to provide "starter cubes" in an ice cube tray then bagged until you need it. For my tray each cube is about 1Tbs. Just remember to thaw them before adding to your yogurt batch. Also, though it is very expensive, there are "starter powders" available to provide the active cultures.

New Z-Star Manual Portable Wheatgrass Juicer Review

New Z-Star Manual Portable Wheatgrass Juicer

I am partial to the masticating (rather than spinning centrifugal) juicers for reasons I won't go into here, so I went nuts shopping trying to fit my budget. I looked over this model quite a few times thinking it wouldn't be suitable for more than wheatgrass, or assuming it would be a lot of extra work.
Turns out that it is so easy to use I can't hardly believe more reviewers don't talk about it. Granted I chop the veggies, but to give you a frame of reference it's less effort to turn the handle than to tamp the veggies down the chute, and you have to do that even with an electric (not that either is hard). I could liken the manual/electric usage to driving manual/automatic transmission. I actually prefer this manual over the electric masticating I have used most days. Staying actively engaged makes it go by faster or something.
It is also extremely efficient. I have also used an Omega 8005 and feel like I not only saved money up front, but am spending less on veggies. As a daily juicer, that adds up. It's also lower pulp in the juice and less froth, the first a matter of taste the second a matter of shelf life. If you like the pulp, you can obviously add it back in.
As others have mentioned the pulp wants to drop into the juice container. There are about a hundred ways to easily work around this. My personal favorite is to put something under the container to raise it up a bit, allowing it to slide "out of range." Complaining about that seems to me about as petty as complaining you need an outlet for your toaster. It's really no big deal.
I have been extremely pleased with what it is able to juice. I am growing wheatgrass, but so far have fed it mainly apples, celery, and carrots.
I suspect this is the Green Star or Solo Star or whatever it's called these days with a crank instead of a motor. That is just a guess, based somewhat on the available "conversion kit" for electric model owners. Either way it is a terrific juicer and I'm glad I didn't fork over triple the price for an electric motor.
Update 11 1/2 months after buying:
I finally had something go wrong with this juicer. I was making peanut butter with the plug in the cap and it broke. I jumped on the Tribest web site, found a toll-free number, and in less than a minute I had someone from the company on the phone who replaced the part free of charge. They honored the 1 year warranty with no hassles even though I was pushing the thing pretty hard (I think the rep was surprised I had successfully made as much PB as I had with the plug in). BTW - the peanut butter this makes is amazing. It's actually capable of making creamy peanut butter, just leave the plug out of the front cap. ;)
