By the time their articles went to print, two models 4870HG and 4870HZ, were released and neither has had a price increase. I bought the recent HZ from Amazon.com and it was delivered UPS in two days in a tall box which told me it was already assembled. Assembly for attachements and a reading the instructions was a 3 minute process. It is much quieter than my prior 1999 Hoover Bag Model and Bissell 2003 Bagless, both of which still ran but did not pick up much. It picks up so much and so fast, you won't have to waste $150 to have your carpets cleaned (assuming no embedded stains like grape juice). You will love it. There is not enough space on here to say all the great things about it. The price ended up including a second replacement bag and a replacement drive belt. Too many great features to mention here.

Halo 3290 UV-ST Ultraviolet Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine after seeing an add on TV. I got the machine home, and was actually excited about vacuuming. The UV light on the vacuum seemed to do a good job at destroying all the dust mites in my carpet. I have to say it looks very cheap, and doesn't look very durable. Within a month and half of receiving this machine, I began to have problems with UV light. It would turn on sometimes, and sometimes it would not come on at all. Finally it stopped working all together.
I was able to find a local repair shop who is a warranty station for Halo vacuums. I dropped it off over 3 weeks ago, and the owner of the shop keeps telling me he is waiting on the part. This is very frustrating as I know have to go back to my ultra-heavy 15 year old Kirby which I kept only for the basement.
My experience with this Halo has been the vacuum is great when it is working, but the service after the sale has left a lot to be desired.

(More customer reviews)I bought a new Kirby last year and it does a great job. It has such powerful suction, you can see it almost lift the carpet off the floor. With the auto drive, it is very easy to push on the carpet. You can do it with one finger. It has an attachment for just about any cleaning job you want, including shampooing your carpets.
I guess my biggest complaint is that you need to take off the front part to attach and use the hose. That is really inconvenient when wanting to get at baseboards. You either finish up vacuuming, then change the hose attachment and go around to each room again and do the baseboards. Or you have to change it while in each room and back again.
My second complaint is the weight of the machine. It's heavy for a woman to carry up and down stairs, or to use cleaning the mattress.
If you don't mind the draw backs, this machine will clean like no other and should last a lifetime with few repairs.

For one thing it pushes very easy compared to the eureka vacuum that I had previously. Also most importantly it has good suction and a nice long cord. I can vacuum my whole downstairs without having to change plugs. Although I have only used it for about 1 month. I have been very happy so far!

The Carpet Pro CPU-2 is a true commercial machine and includes many conveniences not found in a typical commercial machine including an Easy Bag Change System and a By-Pass Motor System. The Carpet Pro CPU-2 also uses a Motor By-Pass System which means all of the dirt goes directly into the bag and NOT through the motor. Carpet Pro CPU-1 Heavy Duty Household Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)I had almost forgoten about this vacuum cleaner until someone asked me what I thought was the best vacuum cleaner under $200. This machine is made by Tacony USA, who also makes Riccar and Simplicity vacuum cleaners. This model is made under the Carpet Pro name brand. The CP1 has metal in all the right places including the motor, the handle, the bottom plate, and importantly the roller brush.
The thing that makes this vacuum so durable is the patended clean air bypass motor system. This means that everything that is vacuumed up goes directly into the vacuum bag first, instead of many other vacuums that the dirt goes through the fan and motor first, then goes to the vacuum bags. This makes the motor on this machine much more durable, as the all of the dirt is captured in the bag first, then clean air is passed through the motor. As long as you keep the filter underneath of the bag clean (it's washable) your motor will last you 15+ years with no problems.
Most other vacuum cleaners now use a plastic roller brush. The plastic roller brush will actually melt if anything is vacuumed up that gets stuck in the brush like a sock under a bed, or tassles on an oriental rug. The plastic brushes use plastic bearings on both sides of the brush that will eventually melt to the brush.
The Carpet Pro machine has a completely metal roller brush, and metal bearings. The brushes themselves are made of Teflon, and slide out of the brush roll, allowing you to replace just the brushes, instead of replacing the entire roller brush assembly complete. Since the brushes are made of Teflon, they really do a nice job of deep cleaning carpets, as well as eating pet hair for lunch!
The really only downfalls to this machine is the fact there are no attachments on board the vacuum, and the color of the vacuum might even hurt your eyes! The earlier reviews mentioned that the attachment hose would fall out while using it, however they have improved the hose to fit more securely in the vacuum and not fall out. The deluxe set of attachments is nice because it comes with a 15 foot hose, which allows you to leave the vacuum at the bottom of your stairs and work all the way up without moving the vacuum cleaner.
Most people have never heard of Carpet Pro, and become worried about being able to find bags for this machine. This is not a problem as the machine will either take Riccar 4000 bags (slightly harder to find) or you can use Panasonic upright bags which are widely available in your local grocery store, or home improvement stores.
This machine is by far the best vacuum available for under $200. You can't find this type of quality at this price. The sister companies Riccar and Simplicity sell for $400-$700.

Eureka 4870MZ Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)Although most the reviews are for the 4870GZ and I bought the 4870MZ, I suspect the machines are basically the same so I won't repeat what others have already said about it except to say this is a solid machine with excellent suction and it did a great job on my carpets, both deep cleaning and returning the nap to a plush feel.
I'm writing to say that, contrary to many reviews, the Power Paw does in fact attach to the vacuum. At least mine does. It comes with a clear plastic cover that attaches to the vacuum just below the top D-handle. If you look closely you'll find the mating point. You then simply clip the paw into the cover and it stores on the handle.
Also, contrary to some reviews, the bare floor setting works fine. You just need to press the tab hard until you hear a click and it engages. The brush is then disabled for bare floor vacuuming.
I really wanted to justify a Dyson but at 1/3 the price, this machine is all that I need. I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase.
