(More customer reviews)Krups has hit a homerun with this new coffee/cappuccino maker. It is easy to use, flexible and makes both coffee and cappuccino easily and with no fuss or bother. I decided to order one when I saw the Folgers cappuccino pods in the grocery store and noted that they were for the Home Café system. They certainly did not fit my much-used Senseo. The Home Café system is similar in concept to the Senseo system but much better thought out and engineered. I have tried to compare the two systems below. I believe if you look at each one you will wind up as I have strongly preferring the Krups.
(1)The Krups system can make either one or two cups of coffee at the same time. Each will use one Millstone/Folgers pod. Strength can be varied by altering the amount of water used - 6 oz, 7.5 oz or 9 oz. The Senseo system by contrast can offer only two strength levels, full and half strength and can brew only one cup at a time.
(2)I found the low mug clearance (3 ½') of the Senseo a real problem. Most mugs are taller than this. The new Krups system has a clearance of a little more than 6". My travel mug fits under this.
(3)My Senseo sounded like steam engine warming up while the Krups is quiet. Both are noisy while brewing but the Krups is quieter.
(4)The Krups has a 48 oz water tank, the Senseo a 26 oz.
(5)The Krups has a carbon filter to eliminate chlorine, scale and other nasty things that ruin the taste of your coffee while the Senseo does not.
(6)The most important difference - cappuccino!! With the new Folgers cappuccino pods this machine makes an excellent cup of cappuccino with no more trouble than making a cup of coffee. I have tried a number of cappuccino machines in the past and this is the easiest to use and turns out consistently good results. It will not be as good as the best you ever had at Starbucks but it will be a lot better than the numerous disappointments you have had and more than good enough to draw compliments from your friends.
The big drawback to this machine - price. At $119 it costs more than twice as much as the Senseo system. It is however much more user friendly, provides a better cup of coffee and makes a great cappuccino to boot. I strongly recommend it as a present to any coffee/cappuccino lovers in your family or even to yourself.
