(More customer reviews)Generally good for shave-milling blanched almonds, hazel nuts etc. Certain recipes need nuts prepared this way when a simple chop or grind will not do.
But with this mill, as each nut gets shaved to a certain thinness, the remainder of the nut simply follows the drum and falls out the open end along with the earlier, finer shavings. The result is a bowl of finely-curled shavings (good) with irregular, thick chunks (not good) that must be laboriously picked out.
Also, fines pack behind the drum against the housing inner surface, making a wasteful mess that must be cleaned out, sometimes interrupting a long grinding session. More wasted time.
Hard to believe that the good old tin-plated cast iron rotary nut mills of 40 years ago are no longer available, but sadly this product seems to be the last of its kind on the market, at least in North America.
