Austin Air Healthmate Replacement Filter With Prefilter In Your Choice of Color Review

The filter is fine, but required some aggressive work with a hammer to make it fit my antique model. Compared to the previous replacement filter, this one had metal where the old one had fiberboard. I suppose this would be an upgrade, except that the designer apparently didn't consider the placement of some bolts on my 15 year old Healthmate; hence the need to put some serious dents into the filter. The previous replacement filter had the same problem, but the fiberboard had more give to it. It is my unscientific impression that the new filter is not as quiet out of the box as the previous replacement filter was (based on my 5 year old memory), but maybe it's just my machine getting older; or different room acoustics. Perhaps another owner can offer a second opinion.

Honeywell HFD-120-Q Tower HEPAQuiet Air Purifier with Permanent IFD Filter, Black Review

Honeywell HFD-120-Q Tower HEPAQuiet Air Purifier with Permanent IFD Filter, Black

I decided to get this air cleaner after trying the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze and a larger Honeywell HEPA filter. At the time of purchase, the Sharper Image was the only one with a permanent filter. This was a big plus for me seeing as the older HEPA cleaners have 2 filters to replace, the larger one being nearly the price of the machine. This Honeywell tower has a permanent filter.
There are many claims for and against the Ionic Breeze. I'm still undecided on how effective it is -- but I feel almost the same way about my large HEPA filter. I found myself running both of them to control my allergies. Although I cleaned them regularly and found dust on both, I can't say the air was particularly different. However, shortly after turning this on in the bedroom for the first time, I could smell a difference. I haven't had it long enough to say it's made a real dent in my allergies -- plus the fact that my allergies are intermittant -- but I'm pleased that I even notice it.
One thing to note -- the Amazon description says there is an independently controlled Ionizer. I assumed that meant I could control it independently of the HEPA Unit. If that's the case, I have yet to see how. It's not mentioned anywhere in the tiny booklet and there are no buttons for it. For that reason, I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5. I did want to control the ionizer separately because I wanted to be able shut that off entirely. There are camps on both sides arguing for an against ionizers, and some claim they make breathing worse -- so being able to compare with and without it was something I wanted to try. If anyone else knows how to do it, then post it here. :)
Compared to the larger Honeywell that I own, this one is much more quiet on each of its three settings. When I first read the description I didn't pay attention to the oscillating function. Now, it's my favorite part of this cleaner. The oscillator is the thing that is independent of the cleaner -- and when its on, the machine rotates in place, back and forth, blowing the air in an arc. I like this feature a lot and I think helps with cleaning a larger area. Maybe the ionizer is attached to this feature?
This unit is significantly heavier than the similar looking Ionic Breeze. Also, the manual states it should be placed 3 feet from any wall or furniture. The cord is not that long, and placing the cord behind some furniture to get to an outlet has made it nearly impossible for me to reach a spot a full 3 feet away.
Anyway, so far I am pleased and would recommend this unit to some one who is looking for a compromise between those two types of cleaners.

Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier Review

A little research pays off! This was my first air purifier purchase. Originally, I was going to buy an ionic one. But, I was amazed once I started researching how little I knew!
In case you're in the same boat, Here's the criteria I ultimately set, ratings for this model on the criteria, and my experience with it:
CRITERIA #1: Must noticably reduce our allergies, clear smoke and odors: 5+ Stars!
Have had it two months with a smoker, a hairy dog, and allergy season in full bloom. Reduced allergies and no breathing problems at home since we got it. Noticable quick removal of odors and smoke!
(NOTE: More power than I even intended. You may be able to get a cheaper model if you don't want all this one has:
A) Electrostatic/Ionic- attracts pollutants from a wide area, but not odors and allergens
B) Carbon - clears smoke, odors and pollutants but not germs and allergens
C) HEPA - traps even the smallest of allergens, but nothing else
D) UV - destroys bacteria and germs, but not allergens, pollution or smoke - cheaper models offer only HEPA and UV filters.)
Best Added Feature: The sensor lights that let you know the status of your air quality - and then watching them go off when it's corrected the problem.
CRITERIA #2: Low/No ozone model! 5+ stars.
I found that the old sharper image-type ionic-only models (many still on the market at reduced prices) only clean pollutants, but not odors and allergens. Worse, they generate ozone at a level that can exacberate asthma problems. The electrostatic filter combined with the ionic one in this model - eliminate that problem. Look for one that has this!
CRITERIA #3: High area coverage: 4.5 stars.
I found an obscure site that lists air purifiers and their coverage areas and particle levels. This one seems to cover about 1,200 sq. ft. - or more than double what is listed. But, even with what was listed, proved to be the best ranked in comparison with price levels.
CRITERIA #4: Low Noise: 4-stars.
We keep it in the living room mostly on auto. On low and medium, it's very quiet. On automatic mostly very quiet, unless it's under attack from something like cooking or opening the door frequently. On high, it makes a noticable "white noise". But, it's OK good for falling asleep and not so loud you can't hear the TV. Wouldn't put it on "high" regularly though.
CRITERIA #5: Price/Value including maintenance: 4.5 stars
My budget was $200. I went over that slightly. But, the filters on this one are so much cheaper than the models I compared it to that the extra $40 should more than pay out.
BOTTOM LINE: I chose this one based on research, but I highly recommend it for quality and value! If you want to cleaner, fresher air and reduced home allergies without intrusive noise - at the price, I'm not sure you can do better.

The Intelli-Pro Air Purifier uses comprehensive sensors to automatically monitor and control air quality in your home or office. Featuring seven air-cleaning methods, the Intelli-Pro removes airborne toxins, allergens, dust, and odors to produce a cleaner, healthier environment. The Intelli-Pro features a long-lasting HEPA filter that has a proven 99.97% collection rate, and it has a built-in diagnostic sensor that alerts you when the filter needs replacing.
Seven Types of Filtration for Cleaner AirWhether you need to remove allergens or odors from your home or office, the Intelli-Pro is up to the task. While other air purifiers use two or three types of filtration, the Intelli-Pro Air Purifier uses seven: a HEPA filter, an activated carbon filter, an ionizer, a photocatalytic (TiO2) filter, a germicidal UV lamp, a washable pre-filter, and an electrostatic dust collector.
The Intelli-Pro's HEPA filter is proven in clinical air chamber tests to remove 99.97% of airborne particles in areas up to 600 square feet. The activated carbon filter is effective against chemicals, odors, and cigarette smoke, and the UV lamp kills bacteria and other microorganisms. The Intelli-Pro's reusable collector grid uses magnetic force to trap pollutants and help lengthen the life of the other filters.
Sensor Technology Removes GuessworkWith the Intelli-Pro, there's no guesswork, just clean air. The Intelli-Pro's unique self-monitoring system gives you instant, easy-to-read feedback about the purifier's performance. A Clean Air Monitor uses indicator lights to let you know how clean or polluted the air is. Additionally, odor, dust, and allergen sensors tell you exactly which pollutants are present in the air, an ideal feature for those with allergies.
And thanks to the Intelli-Pro's Filter Indicators, you'll never have to worry about forgetting to clean or replace the filters. The indicators illuminate when it's time to clean the metal dust collector plate or replace the HEPA filter or activated carbon filter.
Quiet, Efficient OperationThe Intelli-Pro lets you enjoy purified air without noise pollution. The quiet setting provides nearly silent operation, while the high setting provides boosted performance without a lot of noise.
As efficient as it is quiet, the Intelli-Pro has a low-volume fan and multiple air inlets for maximum airflow. Additionally, sensor technology automatically adjusts the purifier's settings to reduce energy consumption.
Warranty InformationThe Intelli-Pro comes with a 30-day risk-free guarantee. Within 30 days of purchase, if you're not completely satisfied with the purifier, you may return it for a full refund. If you decide to keep it, the Intelli-Pro is backed by a three-year warranty on defects in materials and workmanship.
