(More customer reviews)I have had cats for years. We (my son and I) currently have 3 cats. In the past, I've tried traditional litter boxes, and LitterMaids. I even tried a different "traditional" litter box about six months ago that used pellets, and the cat would pee, it would go down through the pellets to a pad in a drawer. I've tried everything.
No matter what I tried, people walk in, and they knew we had cats. Whether they saw them or not.
My son, who is in charge of cleaning the litter boxes, never did it well. He would scoop it well enough, but short of doing it every 6 hours or so, with 3 cats, it would get gross. Plus every week, simply because of the cats output, we'd have to dump out the litter, and completely scrub it. And then the litter mess that was around the litter boxes. Didn't matter what litter I tried, was always the same.
So, I decided perhaps it was time for a litter maid again. But I kept hesitating, as past experience has been they worked great for the first few weeks, then it usually became a very expensive normal litter box.
I stumbled across this one. $329 for regular unit, $349 for the extended "bubble" unit. Yikes. Talk about expensive. But I did some research. Took me a month to decide to try it.
I searched all over the internet trying to find a bad review. Except for the price, the only other bad part I read about was from people who said they didn't clean it regularly. Even people I knew had one (never knew they had one) and they loved it.
Here's what happens. You get a delivery of a BIG box. You unpack the box, and the unit is very simple to put together. The globe sits on the base, and there's really no way to mess that up. There are two ways to put in the scoopable, clumping litter, I opted for the easy, no hassle, through the front. Plug it in, and it starts to work.
Cat goes in, does their business, and leaves the bubble. After about 7 minutes, the unit starts to work - the bubble on top begins to turn, until these two windows open up on the bottom and dump the cat waste into a drawer in the bottom. That's it. No need to scoop.
Now, I put it close to the other litter box they mostly used. Two of my cats went in with no problem, but the third was scared of it. The next day, I took away the other litter box, leaving them only this one. The one cat that was scared of it finally went in, and now loves it.
With three cats, I think we'll need to empty the drawer (which, by the way, uses just basic garbage bags, like the 8 gallon, or 13 gallon type, the cheap ones you can buy at nearly any store) about 2 - 3 times a week.
Again, people who have been to our home have commented on how you can't smell the litter box anymore. My nephew put it the best - last time he was here, he wondered if we even changed the litter box (we did, daily in fact), this time, he came inside, and thought we got rid of the cats because there was zero smell.
I would recommend this to anyone. The price is worth it. I've not had to add cat litter in a week, which is a rarity. My son doesn't groan when I tell him to clean the litter box, as he just pulls open the drawer, takes the bag out, and puts it in the outside trash. Putting a new bag in is easy.
This is truly a wonderful invention, and seriously, if you are considering a littermaid, purchase this instead.

(More customer reviews)I have to admit that I kind of doubted the proclaimed efficacy of the Catmouse, but bought one anyway, thinking I had to do SOMEthing, and it couldn't hurt to try, right? Well...I am very pleasantly surprised. I have two cats, neither of whom like to cover their "poo", and...with the Catmouse...the odor is GONE! I love it and would recommend it to anybody having to deal with cat odors.
Also...just fyi...I have a friend who bought one at the same time I did, but hers didn't seem to do the trick as mine did. So, she called the company directly, and they told her to return it to them, at their expense, and that they would replace it with another one. She did, she got the new one, and that one works great. Great product; VERY accommodating company.
Just fyi...The following paragraph is an addendum to the first part of my review and is a response to a recent review of the product.
I would like to address the claim made in one of the reviews that ozone is unsafe. This is absolutely NOT TRUE. I did much research on this and found that those who speak out against small amounts of naturally occurring ozone are the same types who told us for 20 years that Aspertame is preferable to raw sugar, that margarine is preferable to butter and that any holistic approach to medicine is bogus. My two "babies" are the most important little beings in the world to me; I would not jeopardize their health for ANYthing. I am absolutely, without a doubt, confident that the Catmouse is safe and poses NO hazard to their lungs or any other part of their bodies.

(More customer reviews)After going through 4 of the rake-type automatic litter boxes (DON'T EVER BUY ONE) in less than two years, I decided to try the Litter Robot. I should have done it two years ago and saved myself a lot of money and frustration!
To give you some specifics, we are a 5 cat (adults) household, males & females (all neutered), ranging from 6 to 15 pounds. They all took to it with very little or no trouble at all.
This is a GREAT product! It requires hardly any attention, uses clumping type litter and can be left On or Off. In the On setting, it cycles approximately 7-10 minutes after the cat leaves it. If you wish to keep it in the Off setting, you can switch it On for immediate cycling or "Flushing". The cycling noise is fairly minimal, kind of a loud hum, but if you are a light sleeper, you can switch it off at night and then turn it on first thing in the morning for immediate "flushing".
Although the manufacturer recommends using plastic wastebasket bags, it isn't necessary. I use the plastic bags from the grocery store, WalMart, etc., and just cut them a bit at the seams.
The only complaint I have about the unit is my own fault! Since the thing works so well and any smell is pretty much undetectable, I have, on more than one occasion, forgotten to empty the collection drawer in a timely manner... Yikes!
My only suggestion to improve the product would be to add another rubber grommet to secure the bag at the front of the drawer, but even without one, I am still ordering a second unit for the house.
Lastly, the customer service people at Litter Robot are amazing! They immediately respond to inquiries and sincerely care about their customers.

I have just returned from tossing this auto litter box in the trash. I have for the last time cleaned the floor and spent a lot of money on cartridges. Hopefully, my hard wood floor is just wet and not stained! The cartridges barely last 10 days with two normal size cats, in the long run it is very expensive. If you don't catch the litter the minute it is saturated and try to pick up a wet cardboard container you will have a disgusting mess and yes the Forever Litter trays fit ok but not tightly against the sides and if your cat is a side "doer" it will leak.
I'd rather scoop a few times a day, have a clean area around the litter box and not be stepping on the litter crystals all day long because they do track. With hardwood floors they act like sandpaper. What a waste of money ... again. If it works for you that's great, but after this period of using it I am unimpressed, hate the cost and hate the mess. My litter box never smelled because I scooped a few times a day and didn't have any problems, the cats love a regular litter box and normal litter. About the only investment I may now make is do an Ikea hack and create a table for the box to go under so it is not "out there". Ikea Hol storage box here I come.

I've had the Scoop Free for a few months now, but when the last batch of crystals is used its going into my storage unit. The unit works and works well, I don't like the crystals at all, they are all over the house, are hard when stepped on and one filling only lasts about a week and a half. Maybe it works better with one cat, I have two and the crystals barely last 10 days which is pretty expensive. The one thing that I really don't like is that the sides are very low and if you have a "digger" those crystals are everywhere. Also if your cat happens to urinate next to the wall of unit some will leak onto the floor because the tray isn't attached to the unit itself. At first I loved it, though it can be loud at times but as the weeks have worn on my love has diminished to "it's ok". My cats don't really care for the crystals either. I am dusting off my Lucky Champ covered litter box and going back to that.

Now, I have no more worries because if they accidentally go over the side, this mat catches the urine and does not go through to my carpet below. This mat washes easily in the wash machine when soiled. The only draw back I have is that if you throw this mat in the dryer, the mat will pill. Overall, this mat has been a life saver for my carpeting and I actually purchased more to have extras.

(More customer reviews)First, I must admit I am hooked on this product, despite all of the many problems I USED to have with the 1st generation (see my 3 star review for the 1st generation, Cat Genie [60]) - try it, being forewarned that it might require a bit of effort up front, depending on your hook up connection, and the cats' affinity for using the unit.
However - at least so far - the integrated Genie 120 has few, if any, real problems left.
It is a true, self-cleaning box, unlike every other box on the market. ... for me, the ability to go on short vacations without worrying about or asking someone, to change litter, is a godsend.
They spend a lot of documentation on cat acclimation. For me, it was no problem.
One by one, they fixed some of the core problems of the older design, some I received over time on the old unit, and all (plus a few more) come on the Genie 120:
-improved Hopper (if your cat eats things like plastic, the old unit would clog: the new unit won't)
-improved Claw (the old one had a ridiculously small pin holding the whole thing together: no surprise, under heat and water, it snaps in two after about a year_
-cartridges that might actually be environmentally friendly now (the old ones had chips, contacts... and lasted for a shorter time). The new ones are - well almost ...- just a bag and shell.
-scraper to help keep bone sediment from collecting and "growing" inside the basin
-allegedly, improved Genie Eyes.
-allegedly, improved litter bowl (i.e. over time, the older unit quickly lost a good "seal" between the bowl and rim, allowing tons of granules to fall into the bowl, and gum up the whole works) ... the new one still pops a few through, but I think it's much better
-allegedly, no need to "service" (i.e. nasty complete disassembly and clean of the unit) several times a year: instead, you just drop in a clean cartridge or the same from a bag several times a year.
For those super sensitive to smell, there is no way around the fact that, once in a blue moon, this design will of course miss a few remains ... which means they reach the drying cycle, which generates a most unpleasant smell that most of the negative reviews on the old unit reference.
However, this is rare, esp. with the new "Cat" mode (in this mode, the unit will clean 10 min. after use ... and more frequently, but with less detergent) ... which translates into an almost always, far cleaner bowl.
Customer service is hit and miss: if you reach someone, they are usually well informed and very helpful (this comes from someone who knows the unit better than most tech. service personal at this point). Other days, it's nothing but a black hole into the answering machine.
Still not the holy grail of litter boxes, but I am hard pressed to think of any other automatic unit that comes as close.
