(More customer reviews)When I first seen this product, I was trying to decide between it and the Bodum. Having made a side by side comparison, I decided I liked the handle on the Yama model better (it looked more sturdy). I was a little hesitant about buying it at first because it was made in Taiwan, but when my pot arrived I knew i made the right decision. The coffe pot is hand made and the quality of the craftsmanship is exceptional. When I purchased this unit, I also purchased a cory glass filter from ebay to us in place of the filter assembly that comes with this unit for about $15.00 (shipping included), I highly recommend this and it works great. I have used this brewer several times now using coffe ground for auto drip and it works great; my friend who is a coffe fanatic said it was better than starbucks and is buying one of these as I write this review. I did not buy this product through Amazon because quite frankly the 20 dollar shipping charges that the seller (Expresso Parts Northwest) is charging for this item is outragious! (Sorry Amazon). Shop arround, I payed what Expresso charges here on this site with shipping included. I buy a lot of things from Amazon and wanted to write a review for the Amazon shopping community. If you love the taste of a good cup of coffe, buy this brewer you will not be disappointed. There is a little more work involved than a automatic drip machine and if you are all about convenience, than don't buy this product, but if you love coffe and don't mind a little extra time and effort in producing an exceptional cup of coffe than this product is for you!

8 cup vacuum pot coffee brewer. The Yama Vacuum Brewer ships with one filter cloth, the filter assembly, a measuring spoon, lid/stand, and vacuum brewer. Additional filters are available for an additional charge. "Cup" refers to Yama's idea of what a cup should be and equals about 3-4 ounces for each cup. Directions for use: Use a slightly finer grind of coffee, somewhere around "auto drip" however you may experiment to taste. Drop the washable, reusable cloth covered filter into the infusion chamber with the chain hanging down into the glass syphon tube. Pull the chain down until you can hook it to the bottom of the siphon tube. Fill the bottom carafe to the 8 cup mark with hot water and place 8 measuring spoons of coffee mark in top chamber. Using the wire trivet between the coffee siphon and the burner place the coffee siphon on the burner and turn on to medium heat. DO NOT TURN THE BURNER ON HIGH As the water boils, it will be siphoned up to the top chamber where it will infuse with the ground coffee. A little water will always remain in the bottom water chamber. Let brew about 60 seconds, then remove the pot from the heat source. Once the coffee starts to cool the liquid is siphoned back down into the bottom carafe. Remove the top, placing it in its convertible lid/stand, and bring the pot to the table for serving. Gently rock the upper carafe back and forth until it can easily be removed and placed into it's stand. Serve and enjoy your fresh great tasting coffee. Although Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol which is available at all drug stores can be used in the alcohol burner, Denatured Alcohol which can be purhcased most hardware stores will burn hotter and help heat the water quicker. (More customer reviews)Wow, I have nothing but good things to say about this coffeemaker. It does not drip from the spout when pouring, the resevoir is removable, and the coffee filter basket is easy to get to. If there is anything bad is that the filter basket holder itself is not removable, so it can only be cleaned by wiping it out. This makes really good coffee, and its very fast too. If you use the flavor selector button, this does slow the coffee brewing time somewhat, but who cares? The benefits of this coffeemaker far outweigh any negative ones. I also like the bright blue clock on the machine, the sleek look and the easy clean black color. I love it! The price can't be beat either!!! I wish I could have one in red to match my rooster kitchen!
UPDATE: After buying this coffee maker again in June 2009, I have to say I quite disappointed with it. My first one last two years, and I only bought a new because of the burned up warming plate. However, my second one has a crusty, burned up warm plate already, and I mean as of last Nov. not today. I have started using my old Hamilton Beach coffee maker, but it takes forever to brew. What iss the deal with Michael Graves warming plate always doing this? Does anyone else have this problem with this coffeemaker?

KitchenAid 12-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Review

This coffee maker has been wonderful. As another reviewer mentioned, it has one of the best pouring spouts around. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for at least 2.5 hours, and reasonably warm enough after 3 hours. A side note: make sure you see the small arrow indicator on the lid of the carafe, and that this arrow points toward the spout of the carafe when installed. We had placed the lid on the carafe with the arrow facing the toward the handle because it appeared to be a "selector arrow" matching the selctable positions with words on the carafe for "lock" "pour" and "open", but the arrow is actually supposed to point toward the spout "outlet" while pouring coffee. It'd be helpful if Kitchenaid could modify the lid with a white (or molded) dot to indicate in which of the position it is set. That's a negligible issue.
Coffee is brewed at a pleasingly hot temperature. Other coffee makers I've used have not heated the water enough.
The removable water tank is a superb feature that the Krups had which we were not wanting to give up. This coffee maker has a much better implementation of the tank that allows it to fit snugly into the coffee maker with practically no fussing or adjusting; it just settles into its slot perfectly. The Krups unit required lots of adjusting to have the tank drop into place.
The blue lighted display is very nice and matches a lot of the current appliance displays. It's not a glaringly bright display, which is nice because the Krups unit was unfortunately like a night light. The numbers not huge, and are somewhat fine, not bold or blocky.
This unit has a feature which should be user-selectable to be switched off: the unit beeps once when the BREW button is pushed, and emits 3 short, semi-loud beeps when brewing is finished. It's nice to have a audible confirmation that the Brew button has been pressed, or when brewing has finished, but if someone is sleeping nearby and you're trying to make coffee quietly, the beeping can be a bit annoying.
The only other very minor issue is that the coffee grinds basket is shallow (but hasn't overflowed any coffee grounds) and uses the "Bunn" type flat bottom filters which have been difficult to identify as to the type. Fortunately, this coffee maker comes with its own gold tone reusable filter basket, so filters aren't really necessary. It also comes with 3 or 4 "trial" paper filters. The gold tone basket is great, but because we use a coffee grinder we sometimes have very fine coffee "powder" that can flow through the gold filter basket. Nowhere in the documentation does it mention what type of paper filters should be used; the "trial filters" provided came in a clear plastic bag with no identifying labels. Since this is a 12-cup coffee maker we're going to try the Bunn flat-bottom 12-cup filters, but they appear to be too large, so perhaps the Bunn 10-cup flat-bottom filters would work better.
Overall, I would highly recommend this unit as one of the best 12-cup coffee makers currently available. The carafe and removeable water tank (reservoir) also help make this unit one of the best.

(More customer reviews)This is a replacement for my old Cuisinart coffee maker which I had for about six years or so (the predecessor to this model). I loved my old one even with some of the little quirks it had. It beat out any Braun or Krupp pot which I had ever owned. This new updated model is a winner. All of the small annoyances have been solved, such as the small fill tank opening, the dripping cover that leaked back into the fill tank, and finally, thank you Cuisinart people, a water level guide on the outside of the unit. The front knobs on the front are now also easier to see and use. As my other Cuisinart did, it brews superior coffee and quickly. I find it takes about one minute per cup... 12 minutes for twelve cups, not bad at all. Yes, the unit does make some clicking and popping noises when it is new, so did my old one. But that goes away in time as the unit gets "broken in". I do not think you can find a better coffee maker on the market.

(More customer reviews)I had never heard of Zojirushi before but I was being very picky, holding out for a coffeemaker that makes 4-6 "cups" (aka two mugs,) uses a cone-bottom filter, and isn't black or white. This is the ONLY coffe maker - on Earth, apparently - that met all my criteria. (OK I still would have liked it better if it came in red, but the soft gray color is kind of classy!) And I have to say I'm really pleased with it. The design is simple and elegant and the removable water reservoir is a great convenience; I don't have to pull the whole coffee maker out from under the overhanging cabinets to get enough room to put the water in.
It also makes really good coffee, mainly because of the cone-bottom filter (I'll never go back to flat-bottom filters!) And the built in carbon filter makes more of a difference than I had expected.
OK some reviewers below were on about how it doesn't make coffee "hot enough" and I was like, bonus! I still don't understand how the rest of the human race can drink hot coffee straight from the pot without scalding their tongues. I was really looking forward to being able to drink coffee without having to put an ice cube in the cup first. (To be fair, I do drink it black.) I was so confident about this due to the "not hot enough" reviews that when I poured my first cup, I just took a great big sip - and scalded my tongue. Argh!! Maybe it's just that the warming plate doesn't keep coffee at boiling temperature, but it shouldn't: that would ruin the flavor of the coffee (and I've had a few cheap coffee makers that did scorch the coffee in a very short time.)
Anyway if you are the sole coffee drinker in your home and you like GOOD coffee, and you don't dig the flavor-limitations or wastefulness of those pod-based things, this is a perfect coffee-maker for you. (And if they ever make it in Red, I'll be the first in line!)

(More customer reviews)After buying a succession of cheap coffee makers which broke down after a year or two and made mediocre coffee, I decided to upgrade to Cuisinart.
I don't agree with the negative comments about this product.
The clock is easy to program and it's clearly indicated that you should either use paper or gold filter (twice in the instructions). It's also easy to pour water in the reservoir if you use the carafe. You can turn the coffee maker to the left, and the reservoir opening is easily accessible. Its opening is by no means tiny, as a reviewer described it.
The center funnel which holds the filter is well situated and there is very little risk of dropping coffee grounds into the water reservoir.
The carafe is well designed, with a comfortable handle. It pours neatly, without dripping coffee all over the counter, something which always happened with my old Mr. Coffee.
You do have to realize the lid snaps down on top of the carafe. This is not explained in the instructions.
Most importantly, it makes an excellent coffee.
There is a 3 year guaranty which is more than I have seen for others.
So far, I have no complaint, and I am glad I bought this product for a great price.

Element 1. Water: Coffee is 98% water. Often overlooked, the quality of the water is as important as the quality of the coffee. A good rule of thumb is that if your water doesn\'t taste good from the tap, it won\'t taste any better in your coffee. That\'s why Cuisinart has added a water filter to the Cuisinart Classic 12-cup programmable coffeemaker. The charcoal water filter removes chlorine, bad tastes and odors, for the purest cup of coffee every time.

Element 2. Coffee: While the bulk of the liquid is water, all of the flavor should be from the coffee. To achieve the same great quality of coffee you receive at a coffee bar, you need to use the same quality beans. Buy the beans fresh and whole, only about a two weeks\' supply at a time for maximum freshness.
