I decided to get it so I could turn my heat down and the cat would stay warm while I was away. Sounds like a crazy cat lady thing to do, but someone else suggested it to save on heating costs instead of heating the whole house. I never considered any kind of heated bedding before this.
I'm usually a warm person and can't stand being too hot at night, but after a month with this mattress pad I've found myself keeping it on high heat at all times and loving every minute of it. The heat comes from underneath instead of suffocating you from above. The way it works is the heat is trapped by your body or bedding on top of it. Otherwise it's average room temperature if not covered by something. It's a gentle heat that doesn't sweat you out from under the blankets, but it's warm enough to chase away the chills on a cold winter night. The heat has also been wonderful for easing aching muscles like an over sized heating pad. It's survived wonderfully when a soda spilled on it and it's machine washable. The queen and king sizes have two controls so each side of the bed can be set at different temperatures so everyone's happy.
It's been so great that I've already bought one for the guestroom and one to give as a gift. Now the rest of my family members are wanting one of their own!

(More customer reviews)Having owned quite a few electric blankets, I know what to look for when purchasing one. This Biddeford has all of the features I need. It has 10 heat settings, and its 10 hour auto-off feature allows me to leave it on overnight while I'm asleep. Most importantly, it's soft and very warm! This is a blanket I've already recommended to a few friends, and they all love it! If you're looking for an electric blanket, you should definitely consider going with this one.

(More customer reviews)I've owned one of these for about a year. The big selling point is of course the cooling feature, since warming a bed with an electric blanket would be far cheaper. If it lasts for a couple of years, it will probably pay for itself since air conditioning is far less effective than having cool water circulating below you. For that reason, this may be considered a "green" product, since it takes more energy to cool a houseful of air than to cool the two cups of water running through this.
Pros: Energy savings, two sides of the bed can be different temperatures, built-in timer can turn it off before you freeze at 3 am, more comfortable than an electric fan, remote control.
So-so: It's about as loud as a box fan at medium speed. I actually like falling asleep to such a sound, others may not. Maybe keeping it under the bed would muffle it some.
Cons: Pretty darned expensive.
I actually found out about this product from one of the social news sites, it might have been digg. I was a bit scared to buy it since there were few reviews, but I took the plunge and it has been a great purchase. A cool bed in the summer is something I've missed since giving up my old waterbed 20 years ago.
What I don't understand is why this isn't a top-seller... it's such a simple concept.

Technology ChiliPad technology uses water instead of air to generate a wide range of in-bed temperature adjustments. Similar to the semiconductor technology that cools your computer, water passes by the chip and, depending on the direction of electron flow, the water is cooled or heated. The water then flows through the soft coils in the mattress pad to actively adjust the temperature of the surface at a fraction of the cost of air conditioning or heating. The motor is virtually silent (under 45 decibels) and fits under a standard bed frame.
