Cuisinart DCC-1000 Filter Brew 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

I'm doing an update to my February review. After a whopping 90 days of making fairly good coffee our machine decided to take a trip to the coffeemaker graveyard this week.
That makes three Cuisinarts that have lasted a combined total of nearly a year. Not great for hundred dollar+ machines. So to the reviewer who said that since it was Cuisinart it must be good all I can say is good luck.
Oh yeah, after sending the second one back and being told that we'd have no warranty on this one since we'd gone through so many machines I don't suppose there'll be a Cuisinart anything in our home again any time soon.

This coffeemaker has all the most sought after features. You can set it up the night before to have coffee ready and waiting when you need to grab a cup quickly in the morning. Or, you can interrupt the brewing cycle if you start it in the morning but just can't wait those few minutes until the end of the cycle. It comes with a permanent filter, and a charcoal water filter. After all if you make a cup of coffee with lousy tasting water, it only stands to reason that the end product will suffer.

Would I buy this coffee maker for the full price of the new model? Probably not. But the reconditioned one is a great value.
It looks great, as is apparent from the photo. Keep in mind, though, that as a reconditioned unit, it may have some minor blemishes to its appearance. Mine, for example, has a very small dent in the stainless steel on its left side. It's not noticable unless you're looking for it, and that alone wouldn't keep me from recommending this coffee maker. (Also, as previous reviewers have noted, this model does NOT come with a permanent filter like the new model does.)
What's a little iffier about it, though, are a couple strange design issues that affect usability.
Every coffee maker I've ever owned has had a flip-top carafe--but not this one. You have to physically remove the lid to pour water into the carafe--a minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless.
You need the carafe to measure water, because there's no water-level indicator on the coffee maker itself. Additionally, the water filter takes up a lot of the space under the lid, meaning that there's a relatively small space to pour the water into from the carafe. It's enough room that someone without any mobility problems shouldn't have any issues getting the water in, but it takes a little getting used to.
Overall, I'd recommend the reconditioned model of the Brew Central. It's not so great that I'd replace it with another one of the same model if it became unusable, but good enough that I'm glad to have it on the counter.

Finding a "basic" coffee maker is hard these days. They all have clocks and digital settings that can drain a small amount of electricity when not in use. We never use the auto-settings and as far as a clock, I can look at my stove which is right next to it. I love the color though! we have a red and white kitchen and finding the right color reds has been an issue - red isn't always red. But, this is RED! Close to my Kitchen Aid red artisan mixer - just a tad lighter.
The coffee maker seems a bit noisy, but then they all seem that way to me... it drips slower than my last one, but the coffee tastes good and it is hot. Many times after the coffee is done dripping it is not as hot as it should be - this one makes hot coffee :-)

Hamilton Beach 43253 Ensemble 12-Cup Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, Red Review

We had no need for a new coffee pot. The free one from Gevelia was working just fine. However, on a recent trip to K-mart we caught this one on sale for just under 40 bucks, and it's RED! We've slowly been building up a counter top of red kitchen appliances, so the coffee maker fits right in!
Easy to clean! The mouth of the pitcher is as wide as the base, so it's easy to get your hand inside to clean it out unlike some. Few buttons, so it's easy to program too. Very light weight, so it's also easy to move the maker around if needed. No complaints about speed either. I never feel like I'm waiting on it to finish. One small complaint, but it's nothing major...there is no room for going over the 12 cup limit. It will overflow! Some makers have a little room for you to overfill, but not this one! No biggie, just don't overfill!
I also like the wide karaff on this one. A lot of pitchers have a weird karaff that always causes you to spill a few drops when pouring that first cup. Not this one! Clean up of the coffee ground chamber is easy too. I suggest investing in one of those permanent copper reusable filters. They work really well with this one. I have yet to end up with grounds in the coffee.

With its sleek contemporary styling, this 12-cup coffeemaker not only looks good on the kitchen counter, but it also provides an array of convenient features. The machine's user-friendly control panel and digital display ensure ease of use, while its programmable clock/timer function allows for waking up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. A glass carafe comes included, complete with a stay-cool handle, measuring marks up the side, and a drip-free pour spout. For sneaking a quick cup of coffee midbrew, simply remove the carafe from the machine to pause the flow of coffee, then replace the carafe to continue the brewing process--a nice feature, particularly for those in a hurry for that first sip. Other highlights include a nonstick hot plate, two-hour automatic shut-off for safety and peace of mind, cord storage, and easy-to-clean removable parts. The matching Ensemble toaster, can opener, and blender can be purchased separately for a coordinated look. In bold red with stainless-steel accents, the coffeemaker measures approximately 11 by 8 by 14 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Was looking for a red coffee pot, programmable and reasonably priced. The color isn't red - more wine or burgundy, but I love the amount of coffee it makes. It has a cool feature... the water arm swings out of the way to get the filter out, and the lid automatically pushes it back into place when you close it. Dual water windows are great- so no matter which side you are pouring water in ( I'm a lefty, my husband is a righty) you can easily see the water level. We have it sitting on a "Handy caddy" which makes it really easy to use!

After buying a succession of cheap coffee makers which broke down after a year or two and made mediocre coffee, I decided to upgrade to Cuisinart.
I don't agree with the negative comments about this product.
The clock is easy to program and it's clearly indicated that you should either use paper or gold filter (twice in the instructions). It's also easy to pour water in the reservoir if you use the carafe. You can turn the coffee maker to the left, and the reservoir opening is easily accessible. Its opening is by no means tiny, as a reviewer described it.
The center funnel which holds the filter is well situated and there is very little risk of dropping coffee grounds into the water reservoir.
The carafe is well designed, with a comfortable handle. It pours neatly, without dripping coffee all over the counter, something which always happened with my old Mr. Coffee.
You do have to realize the lid snaps down on top of the carafe. This is not explained in the instructions.
Most importantly, it makes an excellent coffee.
There is a 3 year guaranty which is more than I have seen for others.
So far, I have no complaint, and I am glad I bought this product for a great price.

The Cuisinart DCC-1100 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker
You\'ll love the way the Cuisinart Classic 12-cup programmable coffeemaker looks on the counter, as it\'s brewing 12 cups of fabulous coffee. The Cuisinart Classis is a statement about how serious you are about your coffee ‒ and your kitchen. Enjoy the full programmability, extreme ease of use, and great tasting coffee.

The Quest for a Perfect Cup of Coffee
It is generally agreed that there are four basic elements critical to the perfect cup:

Element 1. Water: Coffee is 98% water. Often overlooked, the quality of the water is as important as the quality of the coffee. A good rule of thumb is that if your water doesn\'t taste good from the tap, it won\'t taste any better in your coffee. That\'s why Cuisinart has added a water filter to the Cuisinart Classic 12-cup programmable coffeemaker. The charcoal water filter removes chlorine, bad tastes and odors, for the purest cup of coffee every time.

Element 2. Coffee: While the bulk of the liquid is water, all of the flavor should be from the coffee. To achieve the same great quality of coffee you receive at a coffee bar, you need to use the same quality beans. Buy the beans fresh and whole, only about a two weeks\' supply at a time for maximum freshness. Once the coffee bean is broken, its flavor degrades very quickly. If it is not practical to buy small supplies, we recommend you separate larger amounts of beans into one to two week portions immediately after purchase, and freeze them in airtight containers. The best way to maximize freshness is to minimize exposure to air, light and moisture. So, once removed from the freezer, beans should be maintained in a sealed container at room temperature, since damaging condensation occurs every time the beans are removed from the freezer or refrigerator. Note that some coffee experts advise against freezing dark-roast beans, because freezing can cause the oils to coagulate. Other experts disagree. We suggest you experiment and decide yourself.
