(More customer reviews)I am VERY picky when it comes to coffee makers and have trouble finding one that doesn't make the coffee taste like plastic. This one works fine for me. I owned a DeLonghi before this one for about 6 years and the new DeLonghis have suffered a setback in quality as far as I am concerned. I returned about 3 of them. The minor flaw in this coffee maker is that the water gauge is on the inside and it is a little hard to tell what the level is. It is also a little tricky to pour water into. That wasn't enough for me to return it though, since the coffee tasted great!

(More customer reviews)This coffee pot was a disappointment from the start. It was not easy to program and the pot is only 10 cups so there was never quite enough to satisfy my husband and myself. The worst part is that the pot dribbles water EVERYWHERE no matter how careful you are when pour the water in. As another reviewer said, a mess every day. And adding to the aggrevation, the pump just quit on us, leaving less than half a pot of extremely strong coffee and the coffee maker steaming away with the rest of the water stuck inside. I HAVEN'T EVEN OWNED IT FOR 6 MONTHS! What a disappointment and a waste of money!

(More customer reviews)This has to be one of the worst coffee makers that I have ever used. The problems that I found were also stated by other people as well. I wish that I could give it less than one star. The problems that I found are as follows:
1. Attempting to fill water storage area for first time turned into a mess when I was focused on filling it up while being half asleep. Found that water was spilling out of the back from holes put there in manufacturing process. Idiotic design.
2. Unit leaks water from somewhere onto counter. Mystery leak that others complained about as well.
3. Carafe is the worst that I have had the misfortune of dealing with. Try to pour a cup of coffee & end up leaking on the counter, floor, etc. Whoever designed the carafe should be flogged or at least ridiculed by coworkers.
4. Unit overall is a mess to deal with. Everything about it is messy. The stupid swivel water dispenser is more trouble than it is worth.DON'T waster your money on this garbage. Find another model or different brand.

(More customer reviews)The price the Proctor Silex is great and it works great. The programable feature is something that isn't usually found on coffee makers "for this price" and a must have.
The carafe pours nicely and fits in the machine easily. The filter holder has a nice handle that makes it easy to remove.
After going through 2 bad coffee makers (Pillsbury and Black & Decker) I was going to shell out the money for a Bunn. Then I thought I could buy 5 Proctor Silex makers for the price of one Bunn. It was a good choice.

(More customer reviews)Like everyone else, I found the absurdly tiny opening for the water is a royal pain, & certainly drags the rating for this way down. After setting it up, impressed with the features, & price, I couldn't even see where the water should go, and looked to the instructions, which weren't much help. I finally realized, that despite a huge lid, which is only for the filter, the opening for filling was a tiny, narrow slit towards the rear of the unit. This is way too small, and not only must you be a great aim, but it's quite awkward maneuvering the carafe to enable it to fully empty!
I truly cannot believe that someone, or ones, were paid to "design" this model! What were they thinking???
Oh, well, this is the third coffeemaker I've bought recently, the first two were even even worse, so I'm still undecided if I'll return this, or just live with having to be ultra-precise when filling it.....

The cone filter improves coffee flavor and eliminates the grounds from overflowing. Now I don't ask myself if I really turned off the coffee pot after I leave. I have experienced a black charred carafe but no more potential fires. It has the coffee ready in the morning giving me extra precious minutes. The basket placement issue is easily solved by leaving the carafe off the hot plate until the basket is properly installed. The black stainless is sharp and does not show the coffee stain that makes the white look dirty. Love this inexpensive pot and bought a second one to improve my daily experience while at our cabin.

(More customer reviews)I have had my share of coffee makers over the years and this one is by far my favorite. I love the front filling design. The tray swings out for BOTH water and grounds, so I can easily keep this in one place on the counter top. When placed on the the counter under overhead cabinets (normally a dark spot in my kitchen) this design is stellar. It's easy to see how much water you've filled. I program the timer and have coffee waiting when I wake up in the morning. It's a simple, straightforward, efficient design. It doesn't take up more space than it needs to and the coffee is hot and brewed just right. I would HIGHLY recommend this product to a friend. Oh, there is a "warming" tray on the top for your coffee mugs that I always forget to use. The coffee is HOT so I never need the extra boost from a warm mug, but it's a cute idea.

(More customer reviews)I spent way too much time comparing coffee makers. I almost went with a Cuisinart, but then read the posted negative reviews that warned of an electrical fire hazard. Ended up going with the Waring. As a newer product, there was less information available, but it was mainly positive. I also saw that there other products in this line that have favorable ratings. So far, we've been very pleased. The coffee tastes great, it's very hot, the carafe pours without spilling, it doesn't take up a huge amount of space on the counter, it is easy to fill and see the water level, and the programming functions are straightforward. Now I just hope that it lasts for a while.

(More customer reviews)I love coffee! Coffee, coffee & more coffee! For as long as I can remember, I have owned the basic, easy-to-use, bell and whistle-less Mr. Coffee Machine.
Early one morning, I was horrified to discover that the heating elment on my then current machine had committed suicide the night before. It was an ugly morning of bumping into walls and uttering quite a few ugly little sentences. Avid coffee drinkers will understand.
So I head over to the local "Linnens-and-Beyond" type place,(what exactly is the "beyond" part anyway?)and I found it. The basic, black, 12 cup, on/off, timer if I should ever decide to use it, under $30.00 Mr coffee. Yay! Oh the rejoicing!!
Until I got it out of the box. The horror! They had changed the design of my beloved basic machine!
It used to be that just the back water chamber lid opened. Now the whole top of the machine is lidded. The problem? I have to pull the machine all the way to the edge of the counter to pour the water in. Then I have to push the whole thing back after it is full. Splash!! Ok not so big a problem, right?
Wrong!! And now for the idiots of the world, they have introduced two sunflower seed sized holes on the back wall of the water chamber. I suppose this is so he chamber is not over-filled. Great. So any water that I may overpour goes all over the counter. Or when I push the machine back into place, the splashing water in the chamber comes out - you guessed it, all over the counter. Hey guys, thanks. What a brilliant idea.
Oh, did I mention that the pot itself is it's own little nightmare and a half. This pot spills, spills, spills and spills some more. When filling the chamber, it dribbles. When I am pouring a cup, it dribbles all over, you guessed it, my counter. Gee, I sure am getting sick of wiping up the counter.
Open up the top of this machine and you will find the filter basket which has above it, a pivoting water arm. Ths arm must be moved anytime the filter is to be removed or replaced. Did I mention I wanted basic? Why am I delaing with moving parts at 5am? Oh one more flaw with this design. Remember our dribbling special-ed pot? Well if any water you are pouring into the chamber hits the axis point of the pivoting arm (ooh fancy!), said water will dribble instantaneously onto the heating element below (where the pot sits). Yay! More to wipe up!
Ok, so the bottom line is, pass on this design. I don't know why the original design had to be changed, but change is not always a good thing.
The company should reimburse me for all the paper towels I have to use EVERY day.
I would like to see the machine go back to its previous design so I may be able to start my day NEATLY and happily with my oldest friend, Mr. Coffee.

Krups FME2 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, White Review

(More customer reviews)Noodles' review is just about exactly what I was going to write. Our old ProAroma was a better machine. It's hard to believe anyone at Krups would think it was an improvement to lock out all controls except "off" when the machine is on program mode. You want to change the program? Set the program "off" time longer? You have to turn it off to do that. Then, when you turn it back on to keep the coffee warm, it thinks you want to brew a new pot, and starts an "empty reservoir" alarm. The automatic start program doesn't cancel after it runs, it stays on. Uhhh... Krups? It's obvious that I would have to actively tend to the machine - like add a filter? Coffee? Water? before it makes coffee again. Wouldn't it make sense to assume that I would be capable of setting the program again at that time? Krups thinks you should be forced to remember to turn the program off (not possible when it's still warming the carafe!) if you don't want to use it. If you forget LATER, after the program time has run it's course, it starts the "empty reservoir" alarm nice and early Saturday morning. Our ProAroma was completely programmable any time - and it had more features. This machine is definitely a step down. Oh, wait - I forgot - the carafe has a lid that won't come off, won't open far enough to stay open by itself, and stained brown in a month. How am I supposed to fit this in the dishwasher - with the lid closed? I guess so. I wish the old carafe with the snap-on, snap-off lid would fit this thing. OK, so I got it for $60, much cheaper than the last few (non e-bay) ProAromas would have cost me. But I feel bad that I didn't just spend $20 on Mr. Coffee. I think this machine was not only built in China, it was designed there by someone who had never laid hands on a ProAroma. Coffee is fine, but so is it when I boil water in a kettle and pour it over the grounds in a Melitta filter...this is just handier. The machine feels sturdy, not cheap. My gripe is in the programming. Oh, yeah, I forgot - they moved the electronics back under the heating element, where coffee and water get spilled on it. Not up high like the ProAroma's.

(More customer reviews)I just got this and must say it does the job ( hence the 5 of 5) of delivering the hot water to the coffee and brewing very good coffee, but it has quirks I'm not appreciating in my morning coffee brewing routine. First after its finished brewing there is still 1/2 cup of water in the "plumbing" which requires you to tip the pot over and empty very hot water out, other wise you'll be starting with stale water and perhaps accelerating the scaling,
second the foot plate does not "lock in" as they say so when you lift the pot to move it( or empty it) it does fall off ,
third to my dismay the thermal jug will require a brush to keep clean as the mouth is too narrow to get your hand in there to scrub( this is also a VERY BIG problem with my Capresso thermal),
fourth since the top of the thermal jug does not fitback in under the coffee basket when its on the jug I'm tryig to figure out where to keep everything so not to use up extra counter space nor lose the top
Fifth as I slide it around on the counter top( out to be used and back in when not) the feet are leaving some marks ( which come up with cleaning) on the granite countertop.
and last it seems for few dollars more they could have included a circuit to turn it self off when its done brewing, rather than leaving it to the early morning harried coffee drinker to remember to switch it off. So yes very good coffee, but the quirks are on par with the ones you deal with with a french press ( which is much cheaper)

(More customer reviews)Again, i read the reviews prior to purchasing and found many people going for the "High End" coffee makers and ended up not being satisfied. My wife wanted a programmable for the odd times she may have to get up in the morning so coffee would already be brewed and waiting. This maker also comes in a non programmable model but you don't have to use the programming feature and can bypass it as i often do. It brews a great cup of coffee, the 12 cup pot is enough for us to enjoy a morning cup and fill our to go mugs. It brews the coffee hot and keeps it hot. The only thing to be aware of is that it has an automatic 2 hour shut off for safety - a good thing for those of us who forget to turn the coffee maker off - but can be annoying on days you are home and may want a hot cup later on. All you have to do is push the button on the right again and it will rewarm. I love this coffee maker and would recommend trying this one before much more expensive models unless you just like spending money.

(More customer reviews)I replaced our old basic coffee machine because after 10 years, the carafe began to leak when you pour. Unfortunately, the new one leaks more! Coffee brews slowly (I like stronger coffee so I use the aroma button) and it could be hotter but really no complaints with the coffee once you get some in your cup. I have tried aligning the arrows, opening the lid a little more, opening a little less. but the carafe just leaks when you pour into your coffee cup unless you completely remove the lid. Pass on this one unless you have alot of patience and don't mind wiping the counter after you pour.

(More customer reviews)We all know the problem coffee makers. They have mysterious water leaks, they don't drip into the carafe correctly, the filter basket overflows if it isn't perfectly in place.
Black and Decker (B&D) has designed a coffee maker that is inexpensive and simply eliminates those problems...
How I know:
I got this coffee maker for the office. We brew at least three 12-cup pots a day. We've done about 100 pots WITHOUT A SPILL OR LEAK. I highly recommend this machine.
What I know:
The "Perfect Pour Carafe" is great. B&D just gave it a wider spout! What a concept! You wouldn't think a handle makes a big difference, but when you're carrying 12-cups-worth of water or coffee, you will suddenly appreciate this excellent handle. This carafe even looks nice.
The filter basket does not swing out, nor must you hold it in one hand while you add the coffee. Swing-out baskets are the ones that overflow when you don't close them perfectly, and slide-out removable baskets leave only one hand for the scooping chores. This basket can be removed to dump the old grounds, but is then replaced in the machine so both hands are free.
That is because the lid opens up to expose the filter basket and the unobstructed, large water resevoir. No careful aiming or water splashing off of useless plastic grates when filling. There is a strange looking, hinged "shower head" that delivers the hot water to the filter basket. It is simple in design and works well.
The lid closes securely and pins down the removable filter basket to further eliminate human error in basket positioning.
Even the "sneak a cup" mechanism is simple and effective. It is simply a rubber stopper on a simple lever. The carafe can be placed in a "wrong" and possibly overflow-producing position, but if you place it with the handle straight out, you can't go wrong.
Water level is indicated externally on both sides of the machine.
Auto shut-off after two hours is essential in our office. It works and the coffee is kept quite hot during that time.
Easy to clean (buttons are water/coffee proof).

(More customer reviews)I really like the front access for filling the water reservoir and the coffee filter. The aroma option indeed improves the flavor of the coffee, and the unit does make a better pot of brew than my old coffeemaker. But I have three complaints, and it seems they're simple, inexpensive features that would've earned this machine 4 or 5 stars.
First, the water level indicator ideally needs to be backlit. As a mediocre alternative, Delonghi could've used clear plastic so you could actually see the water level. As is, it's very difficult to see the level without shining a light directly on the indicator. Rather than going to the trouble, it's slightly easier to add a step to the process & fill the carafe with the quantity of water needed & pour it in the unit (otherwise, I'd pour directly from my Brita pitcher into the unit).
Second, the clock is unlit, which makes it almost worthless unless you're standing closer than 2 feet from the unit. My old 29.99 Mr. Coffee's clock was far superior. Shame.
Third, also related to the clock, setting the time or the automatic start timer is very cumbersome. Besides being hard to see the clock itself, to set the time, you have to hold the time set button as it ticks off each minute until reaching your desired time. So, for example, this morning I wanted the coffee to start brewing at 6:00, but tomorrow, I want it to begin at 5:45. I have to hold the button down until it scrolls for 23 3/4 hours! Again, my cheap old Mr. Coffee was far simpler with its "hour" and "minute" buttons.
When all is said & done, I like the machine because it makes good coffee...but with these simple additional features, I'd love it.

(More customer reviews)This Oster coffee maker has all the premiums features -- programmable brew time, steel mesh reusable filter, easy-to-read clock, brew pause, "aroma" setting for stronger coffee, and automatic shut-off. The clock, which glows blue, is easy to read in both daylight and dark. Unlike some models, which have the water level mark visible through a gauge on the outside, this one uses a step system that shows inside the reservoir how much water has been added. The "inside only" view of water level allows for a cleaner, all-stainless look on the outside, but some people may not like to judge either by the carafe markings or by looking inside.
Pros:
-- It looks nice on the counter, especially with other stainless steel appliances in the kitchen.
-- The features all work well, without any complicated steps or procedures.
-- The included, removable basket is deep enough to minimize overflow when brewing 12 cups.
-- Smooth exterior surface and easily removed basket makes it easy to clean.
-- Heating element turns off automatically after two hours to avoid burning coffee or leaving it on all day. (See cons as well.)
-- Very easy to program
-- Coffee brews hot and stays hot.
Cons:
-- Reservoir lid is large/deep, and you have to pull it out from under cabinets to fill it. Do not purchase if you don't have enough counter space/depth to pull it out, or if you cannot position it free from overhangs.
-- Carafe lid is difficult to remove
-- The heating element turns off automatically after two hours, which may be too soon for some people.
-- Brew time is somewhat slow, even without selecting the aroma feature.
-- Since Oster isn't a big name in coffee makers, obtaining replacement carafes over time may be more difficult.
I can't comment on longevity; however, people who live in hard water areas and who don't use a water softener should descale with vinegar on a regular basis. When I lived in such a situation, my coffee makers of varying brands seldom lasted longer than four years, even with monthly cleaning.
Although the Oster is a great option, I prefer the Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker. The difference is that the Oster is often discounted, which takes it to a lower price point where it becomes a real value. Shop around for the best prices.
