Lavazza Italian "Top Class" Espresso Whole Beans (2.2 lb bag) Review

Lavazza Italian Top Class Espresso Whole Beans (2.2 lb bag)

We had two pounds of this packaged with our new Gaggia Super Automatic. I'm quite impressed. Nice rich espresso flavor. Not quite as assertive as Lavazza Italian "Super Crema" Espresso Whole Beans (2.2 lb bag): FREE SHIPPING which I think has more of a traditional European bistro flavor. Top Class captures the espresso flavor, but has slighly less "bite".
Thick crema. Looks great in clear espresso cups, like Bodum Pavina 2-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Glasses (Espresso/Shot), Set of 2.
Everything you would expect from an espresso. Not oily, so does not clog your machine. Perfect for daily use in your Super Automatic machine, but will be good however you decide to prepare it. Enjoy!

A blend for those who like a strong, rich taste. Top Class is a full-bodied espresso coffee with a very intense and persistent aftertaste. This select blend of fine Arabicas and special, expensive washed Robustas from Java results in rich flavor and aroma, and dense crema, enjoyable both on its own or as an "artistic" cappuccino or latte.

150 Lavazza Gran Crema Espresso Pods Review

We've had a Francis! Francis! X3 Espresso machine for well over a year now, and have gone through about a thousand ESE pods. We've tried hundreds of Illy, Espressione Arabica, and Espressione Classic pods, but these Lavazza pods are the best so far. The taste is consistently smooth, without the varying levels of bitterness we tasted in the other pods. We ordered 150 Lavazza pods about a month ago and I'm about to put in our next order. This is definitely the fastest we've ever gone through an order of 150 pods.

I have just received my box of Lavazza Espresso Point Aroma Point Espresso pods from Aroma Cafe Culture Inc. They were produced in Italy on February 11, 2009. Aren't these coffee pods too old already?

A creamy blend of intense flavor and perfect body. It includes the finest coffees from Brazil and Central America combined with the sweet and full-bodied Indonesian robusta coffees. The "Caffe Espresso" grind of this coffee makes it enjoyable as espresso or as a rich base for cappuccinos and lattes. The sweetness of the blend can be fully appreciated with just a dash of sugar (or none at all). This is the product to choose for lovers of the now discontinued "Super Crema" Espresso Point blend.

illy Caffe Scuro Whole Bean Coffee (Dark Roast, Black Top), 8.8-Ounce Tins (Pack of 2) Review

Upon hearing so much about illy, I thought I'd see what all the hype was about. After grinding the beans and pulling my first shot I was not impressed in comparison to my normal beans, the Bouchon Bakery House Blend by Equator Coffee from my local Bouchon Bakery in Yountville. After acquainting myself better with the bean (I'm about half way through the can) I am still not really all that impressed. There are certainly better beans for better prices out there. I would really put my rating somewhere between three and four stars, but having to go with one or the other I thought four was more appropriate. Don't get me wrong, it's a great bean but the flavor is not really all that complex. I think I will try the normal roast next. It could possibly be that the dark roast is over-roasted, missing out on some flavor which seems to be very common with dark roasts/"espresso roasts".

Fantastic espresso beans! I usually drink Illy, but thought I would give this a 'shot'... and I was not disappointed! This has a slightly smokier flavor than the Illy roasts, produces a NICE crema, and is ultra smooth.
In short, give this a try. Highly recommended for my fellow coffee heads out there...

The blend for those who want a traditional espresso coffee that has a full, rich taste without a hint of bitterness. Super Crema's cup characteristics include sweet aroma and sharp flavor, as well as an easily attainable thick, compact crema. Its natural sweetness is easy to enjoy without sugar. Lavazza Point Ep850 Aroma Point Espresso Machine Review

Lavazza Point Ep850 Aroma Point Espresso Machine

I had the good fortune to be in the paddock at a couple of Formula 1 races. I spent a lot of time around the Ferrari garage and that was the first time I saw a Lavazza espresso maker. I was fascinated by how fast and easily the mechanics and others on the team could pull a shot. They chugged the dark brew in one or two sips and were immediately back to work The machine they were using was the pro model (I think it's over a grand!) so getting one was out of the question. Then I discovered this one - it uses the same high quality coffee pods but that's just about where the similarity ends.
The not so good news - First, the pro model has a lot more features, the most important being that it shuts the flow of coffee down automatically, guaranteeing a more precise shot. Alas, blessed by a Champagne taste but living with beer budget, this unit was all I could afford.
The good news - The unit is beautiful ( it is, after all, Italian) and it's not really difficult to use. Make sure you turn the thing on well in advance of your need for Java. It takes a bit of time to warm up. After the green "ready" light comes on, you unfasten the pod holder and insert your favorite capsule (pretty simple). Then you press the green button, watching carefully to make sure you don't over fill your espresso cup. (Too much water and you get what the Italians call "dish water".
When it's reached the level you want, you press the button to stop the flow. The smell, by the way, is wonderful. If you want some frothed milk, you have to press the third button (NOT THE THIRD BUTTON!) until it lights up. Bring a container with cold milk over by the wand (on the right) and twist the knob behind it.
Why only 4 stars - I really like this unit and given the price, I think it represents good value. However, there a few little things that annoy me. The steam wand shoots out water when you first use it so you have to remember to clear the pipes into a container before frothing anything. Also, the instructions are pretty rudimentary. They never really tell you how much coffee you should be "pulling" - I have been estimating but as an ex chemistry teacher, I would love to have better specs. Finally, unless you use Lavazza espresso paper cups (yes, they sell them), pulling a shot into a room temp espresso cup will result in a luke warm cup of coffee. You need to heat up the cup (use the steam wand or dunk the cups in hot water). Also, if you want to add a dribble of milk, the small shot will get pretty cold - best to warm the milk first is my suggestion.
Not a rave and not a rant - a decent machine that fits my 4 or 5 espresso a week habit.

Lavazza Crema & Aroma Espresso Point Machine Cartridges, 100/pack Review

With the pods & the Lavazza machine you get a shot of espresso with the push of the button. The pods make it super easy (though they're probably not eco friendly). I have a double espresso every morning and have found the crema to consistently produce the most flavorful and creamy espresso shots. While the crema is strong espresso, it does not produce the jolt that some coffee house espressos do. On the other hand, it is smoother, less harsh and very "drinkable". The coffee houses have not been getting my money in the morning for quite a while now.
