I have owned a front loading washer for many years and always wondered why my towels and clothes didn't smell the way they should. One day while I was listening to a radio show someone called in about the front loading washer they owned smelled awful and it was recommened they try SMELLY WASHER CLEANER and I ordered right away and finally everything in my home has been washed with stuff and the awful smell is gone. I would reccomend it to anyone that has this same problem.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this cleaner when it was recommended by a Sears service technician to remove buildup in my washer. I had been using Affresh tablets every month, but they didn't dissolve all the residue from the rubber area in the front.
This product seems to have worked nearly identically to Affresh tablets. It perhaps removed a little more of the buildup, but no more than simply wiping down the washer with a paper towel. It certainly worked, but for the same cost, I could get three months of Affresh tablets.
I'd suggest this as a yearly cleaner for your washer, using Affresh the rest of the year to keep things really clean.

(More customer reviews)I used two bottles of Washer Magic. Although it helped some, it wasn't enough to invest in more bottles. Then I tried Smelly Washer for 3 cycles, which also did not work. I tried bleach and that was of no help. I had already cleaned the entire rubber seal very well, so I figured the mold must be somewhere on the backside of the drum where I couldn't see it.
What finally worked almost all the way was Anti Icky Poo. I had purchases this months ago for an cat urine accident (sick kitty) and it worked well for that problem. It dawned on me that it might work for the washer mold and certainly couldn't hurt at this point to try it after the others didn't clear it. I knew I was on the right track with this, even though it is not it's intended use.
The finishing touch that left my washer odor free was a similar product: Simple Solution's Natural Cat Stain & Odor Eliminator. I'll be using this regularly as part of my washer's maintenance from this point forward. That, and leaving the door open after washing, until it's had some time to dry out.
Just add the odor eliminator into the liquid soap compartment (I filled mine about 1/2 way), set the empty washer for a load of 'whites' with a temp of 'sanitize', and let it run full cycle. Then wipe dry when it's done and leave the door open, if you can do so safely, so the rest of the parts you can't wipe down will dry. I left mine open all night. What a pleasure it is to have the awful smell gone!

I have googled the smell/mildew problem with front loading washers and was sad. I've had skin problems and now found the culprit. I'ld paid a lot for my GE washing machine. I had read the websites full of recommendations. I had already tried vinegar, quart of full strength bleach etc. Vinegar helped cut the smell, but it came right back in my next load of wash. Plus, it was expensive in the quantities I had to use. If this stuff called "Smelly Washer" didn't work, I was going to ditch my washing machine and buy a top loader.
I ran one cap in hot water through the machine. I let it soak overnight. MY GE Front loading washing machine still stank, but was slightly better. Progress! I wiped my finger around the seal, and there was still black slimy gunk, but it looked a little, say, "gellified". Something was going on.
So I ran another cycle of smelly washer. I didn't have time to soak it this time. The washer got cleaner. Oh boy! Light at the end of the tunnel. I was hopeful. There was only some light gellified gunk around the seal, but getting much better. Full instructions for washing (provided by Paul Flynn at Smelly Washer company) are at [...]After 5 cycles of smelly washer, the smell was much better. And the gunk was now just a thin slime. I ran a load of laundry with Tide HE laundry detergent. My clothes reeked again. AHhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I should have noticed it was the laundry detergent that was the culprit. Ok, so maybe I'm a bit dull in washing machine smell investigation, but I shouldn't have to do this.
I ran another cycle of smelly washer to clean out the washing machine smell. It was better.
On a tip from another booklet I bought on Amazon, I bought some ERA HE laundry detergent from Walmart, and my washer smelled awesome, my clothes were clean and I was enormously happy. Oh man oh man. I was happy it was cleaned and upset that I had to go through all this after years.
The short of the story: Clean your washer with Smelly Washer and then switch to ERA HE laundry detergent. All other detergents I've tried make my washer smell. Smelly Washer + ERA = Brad's happy with his clothes again.
I was also told by Smelly Washer company they have a page describing why the washer smells -[...] but I haven't read the page yet. All I know and care about now it using ERA to keep the smell gone and my clothes clean.
I can hardly believe now, that after years, I couldn't tell the difference between clean and dirty clothes by smelling them because my "cleaned" clothes had a mildew smell to them.
