(More customer reviews)I chose this one because it was the only one that said that the drinks didn't leak and it was more modestly priced. I certainly got what I paid for... The Bar Butler came with two of it's dispensers broken beyond repair (because if fixed one would leak and the other wouldn't hold the bottle's weight), the pieces were of a cheap plastic... It came halfway assembled but with no instructions to assemble the rest. It looks cheaper than it does in the picture and to make matters even worse I was dumb enough to buy two of them... at least I can make one whole bar butler mixing and matching the pieces from both butlers, to make a whole one that kinda works.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this as a gift for my mother. It's a bit of a special purpose item that may not be suitable for everyone. The entire thing is one "cork" and must stay on the wine bottle to function. This was perfect for my mother, as she'll only ever have one wine bottle open at a time. Wine-tasting types, though, would probably prefer one of the more expensive vacuum cork machines that can seal multiple bottles.
The Oster Vacuum Wine Cork seems to work exactly as advertised. The initial use was a little confusing. After installing the two AAA batteries that came in the package, the expectation was that the buttons would do something when pressed, the display would light, or something to indicate that it was "on". On the contrary, nothing will function until the device is actually one the wine bottle (which is actually pretty intelligent in retrospect). Once on the bottle, the top button will initiate the vacuum sequence, which takes approximately 60 seconds to complete (the LCD display shows a countdown). After the vacuum seal has been created the LCD display will show the temperature of the wine to (to one/tenth degree) in either Fahrenheit or Celsius (toggled via the button directly below the display). The bottom-most button releases the vacuum seal (another 60-second countdown cycle).
All in all, the device seems to function very well and creates a tight seal even before the vacuum. My mother has only had the vacuum cork a few days now, so I can't speak to how reliable it will be over time. Nevertheless, construction seems to be of good quality.

So, when they arrived, I grabbed a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine and did some taste comparisons with the wife. We tasted a wine before and after aerating. I have to say, if nothing else, these things are very entertaining. When you pour wine into the top and it comes out the bottom into your wine glass, the wine bubbles loudly and it makes you laugh - very entertaining for a party. The difference is very noticeable. Wine run through the aerator is smoother and has more flavor. Nobody has ever guessed wrong about whether a wine was aerated or not. The quality of wine affects how the aerator works. A really bad wine may become drinkable, but don't expect it to become even good. On the other hand, a mediocre wine can become quite drinkable. So, your mileage will vary, but you should taste the difference clearly. I liked them so much, I bought another package and sent it to my duaghter who is also a wine lover. Great product.

(More customer reviews)It's funny, the different experiences people have with the same products. Now, this review is for the Blender Express, not the "Plus." The only difference is the attachments. My wife picked up a couple of these at Wally World after Christmas (2005). They were in a clearance cart for [...] each. I figured that they were probably pretty cheap and I'd have a backup after I burned the first one up. Well, a little over a year later, I'm still using the first one. I use it 3-4 times a week for smoothies and frozen coffee drinks. I have to say that I really abuse the little guy. My coffee drinks call for half of the mug to be filled with crushed ice.
It will make these drinks with a minimum of "crunchy" ice particles and they are quite enjoyable. I never expected it to last this long because, truthfully, from day one, I have been able to notice the "burned wire" odor coming from the unit as I continuosly overload the mug. Yet, it is still chugging along. Even at the full price, a year of this type of useage certainly makes it a good value. And, cleanup is extremely easy and the "make it and run" mug is really handy. Of course, for larger quantities, I fall back on the larger blender. If I ever do wear out both of these units, I would not hesitate to purchase another.
UPDATE: 7/10/2009
Just wanted to add this note. Two and a half years after the above review (makes the unit three-odd years old), we're still using it!!! It still makes the smoothest frozen drinks. I guess we really got lucky with this one. I can't even remember where we put the second one! :)

Happily, it also never fails to chill your potables to the core. Be warned, however, that you will consume a lot of ice in the process. (Since this device does not actually perform any refrigeration, you provide a mixture of water and ice which it cascades over the spinning container. The ice melts completely after only a few chilled cans, or one bottle of wine.)
Another caveat, which may not have mattered to those in the engineering lab, is that this thing is hell on paper labels, what with the constant water, and the traction from the rubber wheels. You may then choose not to spin the bottle, but it will take approximately twice as long to chill your beverage.
Such is life.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I have been looking for a mid ranged price cork removal system for a while now. We saw this product at a cooking store in our travels for substantially more money. I took a picture of it and used the amazon app on my Iphone and we ordered it. The wall mount uncorking machine looks great and adds to the decore of the bar at our home. It is however, not easy to use by any means. Their is no apperatus to hold the top of the bottle with this devise, so you have to firmly hold the bottle with one hand and pull the handle down with the other. For me, that is not too difficult. For my wife...not so much. It is actually easier to use a hand held corkscrew than this product. We are keeping ours for asthetic reasons only, we like how it looks at our bar.

I purchased it on sale for $29.99, so I wasn't disappointed. I did get two good years out of it, and it was great while it worked.

I have used it for making all kinds of fresh juices and plain old seltzer water. The silver one is best because it has a base with the rubber gripping on it.
I've even used it to test my homemade craft beer...I chill the beer that hasn't been bottled yet and give it a few squirts on the soda club. This gives me a good idea of how the beer is doing taste wise.
So far i haven't found their soda products taste as good as mine, but that may be because I use full strength extracts and add Splenda. But I am delighted to see that they are using Splenda in their diet drink solutions!
Great for kids to make their own soda as well.

iSi Soda Siphon Review

(More customer reviews)Sometime last year I got fed up with buying sparkling water in glass or plastic bottles and then tossing out the empties. Although I recycled, I just couldn't justify the resource-intensive packaging of a single-use product like that. Not to mention the carbon footprint of a product shipped from someplace like Italy.
So I did my research, bought this soda syphon, and I LOVE IT! It totally gets the job done. It's best to start with pre-chilled water, then shake it vigorously after you've discharged the gas cartridge, then put it back in the fridge for about an hour before drinking. All these steps help the water to absorb more gas and make for fizzier soda.
I use filtered water from my tap filter (of course, no bottled water here...that would kind of defeat the purpose) and it tastes fabulous plain, mixed with fruit juices, or with just a squeeze of lemon or lime. Lasts for a few days in the fridge. Sure the fizziness decreases with time, but so would bottled soda water, so what would you expect?
Since buying this model I've also bought the larger version because it makes a bit more...good for dinner parties or cocktails.
I even ran the numbers once, and figured that with the cost of the steel CO2 cartridge (which you should and can recycle) you'll end up paying about .50 a liter. So GO FOR IT! You'll be saving financial resources AND natural resources and it's just the right thing to do.

I was hoping that this unit would crush ice further to make more of a slushie ice. To my wife's delight, this unit crushes ice to a fairly uniform 1/4" and under piece size, perfect for crunching. The ice chunks end up soft and easy on the teeth, and, like a slushie, hold onto soda or juice for flavor. The unit is used two to three times a day and seems pretty rugged.
