I bought this brewer in October. At first I was very happy with it. Then the carafe started leaking so bad it was ridiculous. I called Bunn a couple of days ago and the lady told me to wash the spout and the seal around the rim with Dawn dishwashing soap (she specifically said Dawn which I happened to have on hand) and the carafe would perform much better. She said that after a number of uses the oil from the coffee keeps the seal from sealing well. I hung up fully expecting to call her back in a few minutes. I washed the carafe as she suggested and it works like new again... no leaks!! If you have this pot, try it, you'll be amazed at the difference. Now I love this brewer again!

I have been trying to get that perfect cup of coffee at home for ever. Now I know how to do it BUY A BUNN VPR/POUROVER COFFEE BREWER and begin enjoying virtually perfect coffee everytime. I don't claim to understand why, but this machine just makes a better cup of coffee than any other machine I've ever tried. (and I've tried a lot!) I'm a coffee lover but there was always something about the coffee brewed at home that was'nt quite right. NO MORE. This thing makes 12 cups of outstanding coffee in just about 3 minutes. Of course the right beans and grinding just before brewing is important, but this machine makes a difference. highly reccommended. I like those BUNNS!

I will not bore you with all of the exact specifics of this coffee brewer. There are plenty of other reviews here on Amazon BUNN BX-B Classic 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black or check the Bunn website for additional info here: http://www.bunnomatic.com/retail/products/b.html
This Bunn BX-B 10-cup coffe brewer is a pricey but fantastic coffee maker for your home or small office. I bought one for my office, so that I can make myself a quick pot of coffee when I get to work or whenever someone stops by to visit my office during the day. This machine makes coffe FAST and the flavor of the coffee is always consistent. Although I have never found many of the Bunn coffee makers to be much of a fashion statement, this unit is fairly high-tech looking, with its black and stainless color combination. Since the water flows out of this unit so quickly, using a showerhead type spray pattern, I highly suggest that you always use genuine Bunn coffee filters as the store brand filters are usually not tall enough, causing the ground coffee to splash up and over the edge of the shorter filters.
One noteable difference between this and most previous pour-over Bunn models is that this unit does not require the use of a seperate water pitcher. You simply fill your coffee pot with water, lift the little door on the top/front of the unit and pour your water in. The most important step is to place the coffee pot on the warmer plate, being sure to center it properly, before lowering the door on the top of the coffee maker. As soon as you lower the door the water will start to flow quickly. If you lower the door before you place the pot underneath, you will likely end up with a bit of a mess. Also, I recommend that you insert your filter and pour in your measured amount of ground coffee before pouring water into the Bunn, because even with the door up I find that some water tends to drip from the output nozzle, causing water to drip down onto the warmer plate. I fill my pot with water, set it aside while installing my filter and ground coffee, then pour in my water, center the pot on the warmer plate and then lower the door. This has produced proper function every time, without any mess to clean up.
My likes and dislikes are as follows:
Pros:
*****
- Makes a pot of coffee in only 3 minutes or less!
- Consistent coffee flavor with every pot
- No need to use a seperate water pitcher as with previous Bunn models
- Simplistic operation that anyone can handle
- Easy to clean and maintain
- Pleasing black and stainless steel design
- Build quality seems to be much higher than many other coffee makers
Cons:
*****
- No automatic shutoff (could pose hazzard if warmer plate is left on over the weekend)
- No timer feature for brewing coffee at a set time
- No temperature control for the warmer plate (it gets VERY hot!)
- If you don't use it for several days some of the water evaporates from the hot water tank
- Must use genuine Bunn coffee filters, which are not always easy to find
- Pricey for a basic coffee maker
The cons are somewhat minor but the lack of an automatic shutoff really bothers me. I ended up purchasing a seperate digital appliance timer, which I plug the Bunn coffee maker into, so that I can set power on and off times. This way I don't have to worry about leaving the warmer plate turned on over night or over the weekend. Overall I am extremely happy with my Bunn BX-B coffee brewer. It is easy to use and makes a great tasting pot of coffee in just under 3 minutes. It is also a great device for producing plain hot water. If you exclude the filter and coffee this unit produces a pot of very hot water in less time than it takes to make the normal pot of coffee. This is great for making instant coffee, hot chocolate, tea, instant oatmeal, etc. The BX-B carries a pretty hefty price tag (as all Bunn models do), but it is built well and makes excellent coffee in a flash. If you believe that time is money (as I do), then the Bunn BX-B is worth every penny for all of the time you'll save. =o)

The Bunn Coffee Brewer makes great coffee, but there is design feature that may appeal to many. The water pours into the front of the brewer.
With most counter top coffee makers, the water must be poured into the back of the machine. This means the coffee maker must be pulled away from the overhead cabinets in order to access the water reservoir. With the Bunn, I never have to move the machine and I can keep it pushed back on the counter top.
The brewing time is so short that you don't need a programmable timer. From the time I pour the water in until I am enjoying my first cup is only a little over 3 minutes.
I should have bought this a long time ago.

When I was looking to purchase a new machine, I only was looking for a Bunn. Bunn makes the best coffee machines, none can compare. Every diner, coffee house, and Dunkin' Donuts only use Bunn machines. The A10 is one great machine! Brews perfect cups of coffee hot and quickly. Everyone in my office is very happy with the unit. If you're a serious coffee drinker, please don't cheap out on a Mr.Coffee, Braun or Krupps-- frankly they cannot brew coffee at the speed, temperature, or taste of a Bunn unit. I bought the A10 to replace a Bunn unit that I used for 10 years without a glitch.

I've had 3 of these in the last 10 years (I don't baby my coffeemakers, and eventually the hard water kills them). I am not the patient type, so I prefer the Bunn because it makes a full pot in 3 mins. I can start the coffee, get the cup and the creamer, and the coffee is ready.
I prefer this version over the newer one, as I am not too certain of the swivel lid on the newer ones remaining flat and not breaking.
I would recommend that you use the Bunn coffee filters, which are available at most stores. Anything else is probably too short to properly fit the filter container, and you'll get grounds in your coffee pot.
I also recommend using a pretty fine grind of coffee. That seems to get the best flavor.

BUNN HG Phase Brew 8-Cup Home Brewer Review

BUNN HG Phase Brew 8-Cup Home Brewer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After my trusty Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker, Black and Stainless Steel died after 5 years of steady use, I decided to 'upgrade' to a Bunn. The Bunn HG brewer is different from previous Bunns because it heats the water for each brew right before actually brewing, as opposed to inefficiently keeping a water tank heated 24/7, 365 days a year (previous Bunn models). It is for this reason, and the Bunn name, that I enthusiastically dove in and bought it. To make a long story short, I am not so enthusiastic after using it--read on for details.

The carafe. It actually is the cleanest pouring carafe I have ever used--not a drop spilled. However, it consists of a plastic rim attached to a lower portion of glass. Coffee leaks at this junction no matter how fast you pour, producing a steady stream of coffee that dribbles down the outside of the coffee pot and onto the counter top. Not sure if I just got a bad carafe or if this problem is more common.

Full capacity brewing. The way this unit works is you add up to 8 cups of water to the tank. When turned on, it boils this water until the total temp reaches 200 deg F (about 6 mins), then it releases it over 4 minutes through the coffee funnel and into the carafe. The problem is that if the full 8 cups of water are added to the tank, a little comes out during the boil phase from between the spin lid and top of the tank. This then goes down the sides of the tank, drips on the pot and down to the warming plate where it hisses and boils (no, I didn't overfill it--it was right on the max line). I did not experience this with a little under 7.5 cups water in the tank.

Build. This unit actually looks like it came from Captain Picard's ready room and is unique looking. However, there is a lot of open space in it's design--the unit is not compact. Also, there are only two supports holding up the water tank and the brew basket. During the aforementioned boil phase, the vibrations of the boiling water cause the tank to visibly shake. It isn't excessive and in no way harms the unit, but it adds a chintzy feel to this unit and could easily be solved by supporting the tank on three sides. In addition, it is just about 15.5 inches tall, but my cabinets sit exactly 15.25 inches above my countertops. Grrr!
Lastly, 8 cup capacity is just barely enough for me and my wife--a larger capacity would be nice.
In all fairness, the unit makes good coffee. However, so do other coffee makers that only cost half as much. Even if a replacement carafe would solve the leaking coffee problem, I feel there are too many issues present for a $100 coffee brewer.
ADDENDUM (11/4/10): I decided to keep this unit when the place I bought it from wanted to charge a 15% restocking fee (my fault for not reading the fine print). I contacted BUNN about the leaky carafe and they sent out a replacement, which works good--no leaks. Unfortunately, I went to make coffee the next day but nothing happened. The display showed it was working, but it did not heat the water. I called BUNN again, and they sent another brewer. So far, this one is working just fine. I have to say BUNN customer service has been excellent in dealing with my issues--both times sending out replacements promptly.

Phase Brew is different than other drip coffee makers. Unlike ordinary machines, the Phase Brew doesn't "drip" right away. In fact, it doesn't drip at all. That's because the revolutionary Heat and Release Technology heats all the water to the right temperature during the 6-minute heating phase, then quickly releases it through the unique sprayhead for an optimal 4-minute brewing phase and amazing coffee flavor. BUNN Phase Brew - Brews better, not bitter.

BUNN VPR Commercial 12-Cup Pour-Over Coffee Brewer, with 2 Warmers Review

BUNN VPR Commercial 12-Cup Pour-Over Coffee Brewer, with 2 Warmers

About 15 years ago, I purchased a Bunn home duty coffee maker and found it to be excellent. After about 5 years of nearly daily use, it started to get a little finicky so I took it apart in an attempt to clean the hot water chamber. Turned out the sealing parts are not really made to be taken apart after 5 years of use and then go back together.
In a quest for a new Bunn, I found that the VPR cost about double what the home version cost so.... 10 years later, the Bunn VPR is still going strong and has helped out at family events serving large groups of people (just what the machine is designed for!). Despite having water poured into the bottom heat plate (don't try to pour water in without a carafe in place), it still works perfectly!
A hint to those who make coffee only on the weekends: the design of the Bunn is that it is a small hot water tank and keeps a couple gallons of water hot and ready to go at all times. This will use some electricity and I've taken to putting a towel over the top of mine to help insulate and lower energy usage. Additionally, being hot all the time, water will evaporate. If going more than a couple days without making coffee, it's best to pour a pitcher of water in (with the filter basket empty and a carafe ready to catch the hot water) to top off the tank and then make a pot with coffee after it has reheated the reservoir.
If by some Act of God, my Bunn stops working, I will not hesitate to purchase another Commercial Bunn for what is essentially personal, home use. If you love coffee and can tolerate the price, this is a great choice for a coffee brewer!

Brew 3-4/5 gallons of coffee per hour with this commercial-quality 12-cup coffee machine. The completely portable pour-over unit requires no plumbing--just pour cold water in the top and coffee brews immediately. Two separately controlled warmers allow for brewing one batch while having a second ready to serve or for making both decaf and regular available to guests. For improved beverage-brewing safety, its SplashGard funnel features a shield next to the handle to deflect hot liquids away from the user's hand should the funnel be pulled out of the brewer before the end of the brew cycle. Other highlights include internal components made from durable stainless steel, a stable stainless-steel base, simple controls, and an easy-to-clean design. Please note that the decanters for this unit (Bunn 6100 and 6101 Easy Pour) are sold separately. The 1575-watt coffee brewer measures 8 by 16-1/5 by 20-2/3 inches and carries a two-year limited warranty.

I live in Pescott Valley which is 5,300 above sea level and I like my coffee HOT! With other coffee makers, I have to put the first cup in the Microwave to heat it up. Not the Bunn BTX-B(D)Hight altitude brewer. The first cup is on the verge of boiling. (My kind of coffee) It also only takes 3 minutes to brew, and reach that temperature. Even after a few hours the coffee is reasonably hot. It doesn't have a warmer, but a tank on the rear of the unit that keeps the water hot if you turn on the 'vacation switch'. I bought a $1,500.00 Espresso maker, but I find that I use the Bunn more often. It's much faster, and easier to clean. Everything is metal, no glass. The pot itself is Stainless steel. If you can afford $160.00 for a coffee maker that'll last a lifetime. This is the one to buy. Amazon has a great selection of coffee makers, and the price is right!

Bunn BXB 10-Cup Professional Coffee Brewer, Black Review

Bunn BXB 10-Cup Professional Coffee Brewer, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Bunn BXB is an excellent coffee maker, but requires a different understanding of brewing coffee.
Instead of super heating the water immediately before spraying it over the grounds, this coffee maker has a stainless steel tank that stores hot water at around 200 degree fahrenheit. This enables the coffee maker to spray hot rather than super heated water over the grounds, eliminating the scorched taste and power surges associated with fast heating. Fresh water poured into the reservoir at the top flows into the bottom of the storage tank pushing hot water out the top onto the waiting coffee grounds making a hot pot of coffee in under three minutes. The storage tank takes about 15 minutes to heat the first time and will hold almost two carafes worth of water.
My last Bunn lasted 15 years and failed due to a design flaw, which has been fixed in this model. Other coffee brewers were lucky to last 5 years.
My old Bunn coffee maker had the hot water tank in direct contact with the water reservoir in the top of the maker. This contact caused the water reservoir to disintegrate and leak whenever fresh water was poured into the coffee maker.
In the new model, this contact point is removed, separating the hot water tank from the water reservoir by about 1/2 inch. In addition, the reservoir now has a valve that doesn't release the water into the hot water tank until the cover on the reservoir is closed. No more spilled water if you're not fast enough with the carafe or forget the carafe needs to be in position before pouring in fresh water. This new feature also means no need to use and store the separate measuring/fill container.
My only problem with this design is the lack of insulation around the hot water tank. Because the water stays constantly hot, the coffee maker is a heat source that must be guarded against and is warm enough to be uncomfortable although not hot enough to burn. This lack of insulation also results in heat/energy being lost that could be conserved. (I use this excess heat to pre-warm canned catfood for my pride of cats by placing the catfood on top of the coffee maker. It heats the canned catfood just enough without overheating.)
Because this coffee maker is constantly plugged in, it may not be useable in some businesses that have rules about leaving appliances plugged in overnight to prevent fires. It is, however, an excellent coffee maker where coffee/hot water is needed 24/7.
Other than that, a great coffee maker that I'll buy again -- in 15 to 20 years.
(Note: This is NOT the high altitude model designed for use above 5,000 feet. The high altitude models are the "D" models.)

Bunn NHBX-B Contemporary 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black Review

Bunn NHBX-B Contemporary 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bunn Coffee Makers are very high quality coffee makers, and one typically needs to spend money to get this kind of quality. However, there are a few costs you should be aware of before you purchase a Bunn Coffee Maker. I'm not saying that it may not be worth it to you, but you may as well know all of the costs before purchasing.
They both have to do with how Bunn delivers such a fast pot - 3 minutes as opposed to 4-8 minutes of other makers. The first way they do it is to have what amounts to two sets of water tanks: one you fill, and the other is preheated. The preheated water tank is delivered to the spray head, and because it is preheated, it doesn't require any time to heat it up. The problem is that it is preheated 24/7, and that can be costly. I'm guessing they use a 40 watt heater. If it takes 8-12 cents per day in energy costs, you are looking at $20-$40 per year. You can, after you are done brewing for the day, shut off the "vacation switch" which is the switch to the tank heater, and this will save the cost and energy, but if you forget to turn it back on at least 15 minutes ahead of when you need it, you are looking at a 15 minute wait for the tank to reheat before you can brew. You can also use a timer to limit the time of day the unit stays preheated, but that's an additional cost and timers use energy to run all day.
Furthermore, if you are having guests, if you brew a pot of caffinated, followed by a pot of decaf, you may need to wait 15 minutes between pots. The Bunn commercial brewers keep three preheated tanks, so this isn't a problem for them. But the consumer models keep only one tank preheated.
Note that they work on gravity: the water you put in pushes the preheated water out. Some of the preheated water will evaporate, so you have to put in more water than you want out.
The second thing they do to get a fast brew is to increase the amount of water that pours in to the filter basket, far greater than other coffee makers. The amount of water would collapse other filters, but because these filters are taller and sturdier, they stand up. But that means you are stuck with their filters, which, if you don't have a supply nearby, and few stores carry them, means paying for the filters plus shipping.
Bunn builds coffee makers to last, unlike other coffee makers that will wear out after a year or two. Virtually all programmable models seem to only last a year or two. So by buying this brand, you'll save money on coffee makers, to partly make up for the extra energy and filter costs.
You'll have to decide whether the extra energy and filter costs (which can be dealt with, but might be troublesome) are worth saving the cost of buying a new machine every couple of years.
Next, the carbon footprint of a machine that consistently wastes energy is somewhat (but not all) counterbalanced by the fact that it is made in America , and does not require shipping halfway around the world like some of the better brands (UPDATE: it WAS made in America, now it's made in China, so this benefit does not apply). Additionally, these coffee makers will easily outlast 5x other coffee makers, and that's a lot of plastic you save buy buying something only once.
Finally, the quality of coffee from a flat bottom filter is generally not as high as that you can get from a cone filter, though the differences will be subtle, and if you are used to the flavor of a flat bottom filter, then you may never care. This brand is considered the best of the flat bottom makers, so there may not be as much of a difference as there are for other brands.
As for the heated base keeping your coffee hot, it is also *ruining* the flavor from almost the very first minute. Any real coffee geek will immediately take the pot off the heater and pour it into a thermal carafe or thermos or will order a model with a thermal carafe to start with. Ideally, there is no heated base at all. So people complaining that it doesn't keep the coffee hot should invest in a thermal carafe or buy a model that comes with one.
In summary, the design of these coffee makers is suited to the standard donut shop, where they are brewing coffee around the clock and it is worth it to them to keep extra tanks of water heated so that they can shave 1-3 minutes off the brew time during their peak buying periods. Whether it is worth it for a consumer who makes one or two pots of coffee in the morning to do something like this is something only you can answer for yourself. They are very good coffee makers: well built and they make good coffee. But they cost a lot in terms of energy and filters, though partly balanced by the reduction in number of coffee makers you'll buy over the life of this product and the local nature of the product that reduces the energy required to ship them. It's one thing to have a high cost, but to have the high energy waste these coffee makers will generate for most consumers is something everyone should think about.
Finally, what did I buy instead? I settled on the Frieling USA C104943 Cilio Porcelain No. 4 Coffee Filter Holder. I bought the #4 size and use a #4 filter (though you can use a smaller filter for whatever size you buy) and make 16 ounces of coffee right into a Thermos Stainless King SK1005MB4 16-Ounce Leak-Proof Travel Mug, Midnight Blue. Cheap, simple to use, lightweight (less energy used to ship than an electric coffee maker), lasts forever, cleans in five seconds, no plastic chemicals in my coffee and wastes zero energy when not in use.

The coffee brewer's specially designed stainless-steel water tank features an internal thermostat, which keeps water at an ideal temperature for maximum flavor and fast brewing. In addition, the unit's patented sprayhead design improves coffee-flavor extraction, while its porcelain-coated warming plate with a lighted "on/off" switch helps keep brewed coffee at the optimal serving temperature for hours. Other highlights include a convenient sliding lid for easy addition of brew water, a durable glass decanter with a generous handle, and a vacation switch to turn the tank heater off when the brewer will not be used for a long period of time. The home coffee brewer measures 11-3/5 by 9 by 13-2/3 inches and carries a three-year limited warranty.
