(More customer reviews)I'm an avid baker and have been using these to make empanadas and puff pastries with all kinds of filling without any problems. Some words of advice on these:
1. Remember...they are PLASTIC. The reason why these break is because there was too much pressure applied on the product. My tip for the customer is for you to not press down on the center tabs, instead...go ahead and fill the dough press, gently close the press with the pastry inside, then pick it up with both hands as if you are holding a sandwich, and press the sides together only until you see the dough ''sealing''. Another tip to help the dough seal is to apply a little water around the inside edges of the dough right around the filling with your pastry brush or fingertip.
2. Do not overfill your pastry...it makes it easier to break these if you spoon in too much filling. So moderation is key.
3. Keep them in a relatively cool and dry place. Plastic is very sensitive to heat and tends to weaken over time (try leaving a cd on the windowsill for a few days and you'll get the picture). I keep my set inside a tupperware box inside the cupboard away from heat from the windows and stove. And, they have lasted me more than a year so far.
The only reason why I do not give these a 5 star rating is because when cutting thicker dough like puff pastry, the circle cutter has a thick line that leaves a rather deep impression in the middle of the dough, causing me to have to roll the pastry again in order to make it smooth. But, with thinner doughs I have not experienced this problem. I like all the sizes it comes with because I can make snack sized treats or nice lunch sized empanadas filled with meat, veggies and cheese. I would definitely buy again if they were to keel over on me. ^^
