My boyfriend and I were planning to make fondue on Valentine's this year. I ordered this item a couple of days before Valentine's and even though shipping date was noted after Feb 20th. We received it on Feb 13th and were able to use it the next day! Great Service.
The item is wonderful and easy to use with simple instructions and a cookbook that gives you exact heat instructions. Recipes are simple and there is a lot of variety. It's easy to clean and store. The only problem is that it is too big for two people, but we still use it often and love it!

I bought this set for my husband and thought we might make fondue every once in a while. It is so easy to clean and extremely easy to use, that we cook in it all the time. We have made several cheese fondues, broths and chocolate. Unlike the "burner" type of fondue sets, this is safe and heats evenly and quickly. I can leave the room and not worry about setting the house on fire. The plug fits well and will only come out if you trip over the cord. This is great if you have pets or kids running around. You will not lose your dinner if someone is clutsy.

We brought our set over to my in-laws for Christmas for a cheese appetizer and it was a huge hit. My mother in law used her set for chocolate. Hers had the flame below and did not heat evenly and took significantly longer to heat the chocolate. It took me seconds to clean my set while my mother in law was scrubbing her old style set. I would highly recommend this brand and type of fondue set!

Casa Moda "S'mores" Maker Review

Casa Moda S'mores Maker

This is awesome! I got the S'mores Maker as a Christmas gift and have completely used up all 3 cans of chafing fuel that I got with the gift. I'm addicted!
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to be able to eat S'mores at any time of the year! I used to make S'mores in the microwave, but the marshmallows always got chewy. This is the perfect solution.

It has a very cute set-up and although I don't really use the little containers for my marshmallows and graham crackers (except when taking fun photos), I do keep my wrapped chocolate bars in there all the time.
At first it took forever to roast my marshmallows until I read the directions (which I should have done in the first place) and saw that there's this neat feature that lets you adjust the flame height. The bigger the flame, the faster your marshmallow roasts. If the flame is too high, your marshmallow is quicker to burn.
As for someone's comment about Sterno not recommending that you cook open food over their flame... that's because certain foods can drip into the flame and cause dangerous flare-ups if you aren't careful. They specifically say that the emissions of the chafing fuel will not cause harm. :)
If you're having trouble finding the chafing fuel, check out the list of places in the FAQ on sterno.com. I'm pretty sure Amazon sells some, too!
Happy roasting!

First the heating is the best, from warm to over 400+ it heats not only quickly but more important safely! Take a close look on 'more pictures' see the 3 stage system the element is welded to the bottom of the pot the temp guide slides in and the electric cord is breakaway using hook and magnet, no way has the pot fallen or slid off the table with the 2 klutzes that live with me. We started a family Fondue Friday and have tried it ALL. Chocolate, Mex cheese, broth boil, and fry. Candles only do chocolate and cheese, sterno if not careful burns the chocolate and only hot enough to fry for 30 min. maybe. Think out side the description and put soup in it for the buffet table, or baked beans. The cord is short but a heavy duty extension solved that and the safety features resolves worry. Best for 3 to 6 adults. Our favorite is doing a sweet & sour combo of shrimp, scallops, pork, chicken, beef, everybody got to dip and fry their favorites while picking out their steamed veggies, sauces and type of rice. Amazon's shipping had this arriving quickly and in excellent condition.

If you like fondue, but find Sterno fuel a pain to use, not to mentioned potentially dangerous... you will love this fondue pot... Just plug it in, turn the knob to the setting you desire and put in the make fondue! Couldn't be easier!
While the power cord is rather short, just get an extension and all is right with the world... And for those concerned that someone tripping over the cord could cause a big mess... forget it... The cord has a megnetic connector that holds it to the thermostat, which incidentally unplugs from the pot itself for cleaning, If someone were to trip over the cord, it just comes undone and all you have to do is set it back in place and the magnet reconnects it... Brilliant!
Oh, and the non-stick surface is great... Those old ceramic fondue pots were a chore to clean... Just wipe this one out with a soft sponge with soap and water and your done!
Yes, Fondue is back and this pot could keep it here to stay this time around!

Hamilton Beach 31602 Raclette 8-Person Party Grill Review

Hamilton Beach 31602 Raclette 8-Person Party Grill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The HB 31602 is an excellent raclette grill at a price well below that of most other raclettes on the market now. This is my second grill; the first - a Swiss-made machine - died after about 10 years of use. I decided to try the HB because of its features and attractive price, as well as my previous favorable experience with Amazon in the event I wanted to return the item.
In short, the unit functions perfectly. Its variable temperature control (a must for raclette cooking) does its job well. Clean up - a frequent gripe among raclette grill reviewers - is a breeze....assuming that you only use the top grill to cook normal raclette-type foods such as small potatoes, sausages or Canadian bacon, not frying eggs, and that you treat the non-stick surface properly.
Although the listing copy doesn't make this clear, the unit comes with both the rectangular pans and the plastic scrapers. And the cord length (another often-heard complaint) is quite adequate.
The only potential shortcoming is the way the item is shipped -- in its retail box only, the way you would pick it up at a store. That means the only thing between your grill and the rough world of a UPS trip is a few pieces of egg-carton packing and a flimsy, non-corrugated box....a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, my unit arrived OK though the box was pretty beat up. Amazon should require its third party 'partners' to use shipping cartons, like Amazon itself always does. (On the positive side, my one experience with Amazon re a shipping-damaged item was very satisfactory.)

Nostalgia CFF-965 Mini Chocolate Fondue Fountain with 2-Tier Tower Review

Nostalgia CFF-965 Mini Chocolate Fondue Fountain with 2-Tier Tower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a version of this fountain last year at the after xmas sales for $16. I finally used it twice this month at a couple of parties. It was a tremendous hit! The second time I ran it for about an hour, and then I noticed that it smelled like the motor was beginning to overheat, so I turned it off. So maybe like the other reviewers have complained, it is not going to last very long. But, this fountain is great fun for chocoholics.
Here's how it works: Assemble, level, and preheat the fountain. Get two 12-oz bags of chocolate chips, add 1/4 cup canola oil and microwave it (with occasional stirring) about 3 minutes, until almost hot, in a 4-cup glass measuring cup. A spout is essential to pour it into the fountain. Turn on motor. Voila, joy from your eager audience!
Here are the tips: semi-sweet chocolate was a little too sweet the first time. About half was leftover, so I poured it back into the glass measuring cup and it hardened overnight. Reused it a week later and added a bag of dark chocolate chips. Don't use toothpicks to skewer nibbles, because the chocolate is too heavy and knocks the nibble off the toothpick. Cut the nibbles large enough that people can pick up and dip.
Cleanup is not simple but not too bad. To reduce cleanup, it's a good idea to put a plastic tablecloth around the base (and covering the cord), because chocolate splatters and people drip. The tier disassembles easily and can be soaked and then put in the dishwasher. The base gets pretty messy, I have to use a lot of paper towels to get all the chocolate off of it.
I looked at getting a better one that would last longer, but this mini size is really ideal because you don't need so much chocolate. Frankly, I had 50 people for the 2nd party, and there was ~2 cups of chocolate left over. I poured it into paper cups (to harden and toss) so I could clean the fountain, and people still kept dipping nibbles into the liquid.
Oh, and warn fans not to double dip!

Chocolatiere Electric Chocolate Melting Pot Review

Chocolatiere Electric Chocolate Melting Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This pot is very simple to use if you just want to melt chocolate for baking or for fondue. It even comes with tiny little fondue forks (although admittedly, longer, nicer looking forks would have been more useful). However, if you are making candy, this pot heats the chocolate too high for tempering chocolate properly (meaning the chocolate resolidifies at room temperature with a nice sheen). You can still use it, you just need to watch it pretty carefully and keep a thermometer handy. You can pseudo-temper by not allowing the chocolate to get hotter than 96 degees F. Chocolate will start melting around 92, just don't let it get much hotter, and it will resolidify at room temp. The lowest temp setting on this device gets it up to about 109. But as I say, if you watch and stir and turn off occassionally, you can still do it.
02/08/11 edit: I've been using this device for two years, so would like to add a few notes regarding comments left by others. No, the device doesn't temper chocolate and it's not meant to. But you CAN get any chocolate (pre-tempered or not) to resolidify (a primary goal of tempering) by heating it up very carefully so it never gets very hot (as I said earlier, no hotter than about 96), stirring vigorously and frequently to aid in crystallization. The problem with this technique is that the chocolate is very thick at this temperature, so impossible to apply in a thin coat, if that's what you want. It also tends to bloom upon resolidification if you mix different chocolates or don't get it to just the perfect temp. All in all, pretty tricky for those kind of jobs. (Real tempering machines start at $400!)
If you're a dedicated candy maker, this ain't the product for you. If you just want to melt chocolate chips, use the microwave. But this is nice for fondue or, if you're not picky about final appearance, coating things per my recommended instructions above. Have fun!!!

Nostalgia Electrics CFF-986 3-Tier Chocolate Fondue Fountain, Stainless Steel

Okay, I guess this must be the "better" version of the Nostalgia line (mine is a CFF-980). I received mine as a gift for Christmas and wondered what everyone else thought about theirs. There were so many bad reviews (on other versions) that I began to get worried mine was a piece of junk too. I wanted to use it for a party next week and so I decided to pull it out and see how bad it really was.
I tried to use water so I didn't have to make a mess(a suggestion from another comment) and it didn't work. Nothing was coming out! I finally broke down and used the chocolate/oil mix. When I first turned it on, the auger clanked really loudly against the tower. I turned it off and checked to see if it was level and it was clearly un-level. After I leveled it properly, the chocolate flowed beautifully.
The clean-up was simple. I heard so many complaints that this thing is very hard to clean. I didn't find that to be true. I took the tower and auger off and soaked it in soapy water while i discarded the chocolate. I took a sponge and cleaned the tower and auger. I used the water sprayer on my sink to get inside the tower. I used a baking spatula to wipe most of the chocolate from the bowl. Then wiped it once with a paper towel and finished by using a soapy sponge. Cleaning the parts took less than 10 minutes (not including drying).
The only thing I suggest is to put a mat or towel under the fountain because dipping into it causes drops of chocolate to land on the table. Also, be sure to follow the instructions! The most important part of the entire thing is leveling it correctly. It took me about 10 minutes to level it properly.
The sound is not bad at all. It is much quieter than I was led to believe. It is quieter than any kitchen appliance I own. I don't even have anything to compare it to. It sounds like a fan blowing...that is the closest thing I can come too. I LOVE IT!

Wilton 2104-9008 Chocolate Pro 3-Tier Chocolate Fountain Review

Wilton 2104-9008 Chocolate Pro 3-Tier Chocolate Fountain
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very worried after reading all the reviews on every Chocolate Fountain out there. The ones that had decent reviews seemed awfully pricey for a kitchen item that, honestly, is less functional and more novelty. The less expensive ones had widely variable ratings.
I decided to take a chance and order the Wilton Pro, despite some of the negative ratings. The base is fairly hefty and the bottom bowl is solid and attached to the base. It is lined with metal and when on 'Preheat' mode, heats up without turning the auger and circulating the chocolate. The three tiers over which the chocolate cascades are made of heavy-duty plastic and locks together but comes apart for cleaning.
You can pretty much dissemble the three tiers and the auger that runs up the middle, and after any big chunks of chocolate have been removed, soak in hot water or put in the dishwasher and the cleanup is exceptionally easy. The most difficult part of the fountain to clean is the base. I poured out any excess chocolate(do NOT pour down the drain as it can harden in the pipes and cause blockages) and then mopped the base up clean with a sponge. I used the sprayer on my kitchen faucet with the bowl angled to let the water run down into the sink the entirely rinse it clean without getting the base wet where the motor is housed. Clean up took all of 5 minutes.
I took this to my daughter's first grade class for their Valentine party. It was a *huge* hit. I used two bags of Wilton's chocolate but the instructions give recipes to use Wilton Candy Melts(the colored kind), white chocolate or regular chocolate(chips, bars, etc,). All need to have a various amount of oil added to get the proper consistency. The Wilton Fondue Chocolate(purchased here on Amazon or at Michael's- half off with a coupon!) was very, very runny.
The fountain worked well with the two bags and only at the very end after 20 first graders and a bunch of parent volunteers had gone through twice and used up most of thew chocolate did the fountain stop fully cascading- it still ran fine, just didn't have the cascade effect all the way around continuously.
We had a ton of fun with it. We made up all sorts of stuff for the kids to dip- sliced bananas, apple chunks, pretzels, pound cake, marshmallows, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, gummi bears, gum drops, shortbread cookies, shredded wheat biscuits, and even potato chips. Everyone loved it. We used wooden skewers, maybe 12" long, plus toothpicks, plus shorter skewers(4"). Some kids made kebabs with the larger skewer and some dipped individual items with toothpicks or the smaller skewers. I set out mini muffin cups filled with nuts and raisins that the kids could dip into the leftover chocolate on their plates.
Set up was simple. The most important thing- whatever chocolate you use, melt it thoroughly before use and not just to soft-and-pasty, no, you want it to be liquid. The fountain isn't designed so much to melt the chocolate though you couple probably pour it into the base on preheat and let it sit and melt for a while- [probably a long while. It's definitely made to maintain the chocolate in a melted form rather than to actually melt it. Easiest way to melt the chocolate is to put it in a heavy duty gallon ziploc bag- leave a corner open and pop it into the microwave. Take it out every 30 seconds for 2-3 minutes and knead it. This will keep it form burning and help improve the consistency by distributing the heat.
I had absolutely no problems with the fountain. It is a pleaser for both kids and adults alike. I have a bunch of people who have asked me if they could borrow it for a party. I think we'll be using ours fairly often even at home. We have a Le Creuset fondue set and love to do fondue but it is a pain to clean-up between the cheese/oil main course and then do chocolate for dessert in it. Now we can just use the fountain!
Fun- and worth every penny for all the fun the kids had with it! I'd buy this all over again and recommend it to others.

Wilton Chocolate Pro Electric Melting Pot Review

Wilton Chocolate Pro Electric Melting Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Some time ago, I worked as a pastry chef/candy maker using a very expensive chocolate melter/temperer as one of my equipment staples. I have melted and dipped more chocolate than you could shake a candy box at.
I took a chance and picked up one of these locally (Wilton Chocolate Melter Deluxe) with a melting/warm/off switch. There are no exact temperature controls on this model, no recipes, but the instructions are pretty straight forward. The worst enemy of chocolate is water, which they casually mention in the instruction phamphlet. I'd like to pass along that even just a tiny sputter of water will cause beautiful, satiny melted chocolate to seize up with no recovery at all possible. So if you want to dip fresh fruit, it absolutely must be 100% dry or your chocolate will harden in seconds. Don't even chance a strawberry hull (the green part) being the least bit wet because even just the smallest droplet of water is all it takes to ruin a whole batch of chocolate.
I found the Wilton to melt the chocolate quickly with continual gentle and slow stirring like an expensive chocolate temperer does, using a wooden paddle-like spoon and NOT metal. After all was smoothly melted (I use only organic non-GMO chocolate) and the control was switched onto "warm", the temperature was held well. Again, stirring gently and frequently helps maintain even temperatures throughout your chocolate mixture which is important in keeping your dipping temperature consistent. I dipped over 70 pieces with just 8 oz. of chocolate the first time out with great results.
Another suggestion to help keep "bloom" at bay (the white streaks that can appear on dark and milk chocolates that does not effect flavor) is to set your dipped chocolates away from any air movement. No open windows and out of human traffic where people walk by continually. Even a little bit of air movement can turn a whole batch of newly dipped chocolates into a white bloomin' mess. This is caused by rapid temperature change and/or improper tempering. This unit is not a temperer, but gentle handling can still give good results.
I'm looking forward to making lots of chocolates for the holidays and this little melter gets my whole-hearted vote! Chocolate is an experience and worth not giving up on. If you don't have great success the first time out, try smaller batches and you will get the feel for it. This little melter is a boon to the home chocolatier novice.

Get ready to wow friends and family with delicious gourmet sweet treats--perfect for adding to the festive mood of birthdays, holiday dinner parties, and other fun get-togethers. This electric melting pot makes it easy to go from average to extraordinary. Shaped like a small crock pot with a large open handle, the unit features a removable nonstick melting pot that holds up to 2-1/2 cups at a time. Simply add chocolate or Candy Melts brand confectionery coating and slide the power switch from "off" to "melt" for a creamy consistency in 10 minutes or less--no microwave or double-boiler needed. It also offers "warm" mode to keep contents at the right consistency without overheating. Mold lollipops and dipped-center candies like a pro; serve chocolate-dipped strawberries or elegant soiree-style fondue; create flavored chocolate sauces for drizzling over ice cream or silky ganache glaze to pour over cakes--the creative options are endless. Thoughtfully designed, the melting pot provides a spout for drip-free pouring, an "on" indicator light, a stay-cool base for safety, and non-skid feet that keep the unit steady on the counter. When finished, dispose of any unused chocolate or confectionery coating while it's still melted and fluid, then allow the melting pot to cool completely and wash by hand in warm, soapy water. The base of the unit can be wiped clean and both the melting pot and base should be dried thoroughly before storing. The UL-listed melting pot measures approximately 5-1/2 by 10-1/2 by 8-2/5 inches.
