I received this as a Father's Day gift a year ago, and we've made ice cream at least a dozen times since then, most recently two batches over the 4th of July weekend. It works great, and we haven't had any problems with the bucket stretching. The only complaint is that sometimes getting the motor clicked on properly can be difficult. Other than that, this has been well worth our money!

it's really simple to use. Compared to the traditional ice cream markers this one doesnt require ice and salt. It mixes the cream until it is stiff enough for freezing. The ice cream texture is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! very little air is blended in with the cream mixture. All in all there is just enough air that the machine allows for the smooth and creamy texture. It's truly worth the purchase. My kids and I love it!

Rival 8804-BL 4-Quart Oval Ice Cream Bucket, Blue Review

Rival 8804-BL 4-Quart Oval Ice Cream Bucket, Blue

Works as advertised, makes fine ice cream. Instructions are brief and clear. Well-made for the price. About the size of a small wastebasket, fits easily into one side of a double sink. I think the size is an excellent compromise between the countertop units and the big churns.
The can is thin deep-drawn aluminum with no seams at the bottom to trap salt (like a soda can, but not nearly that thin). People have complained of it getting pinholes from corrosion during storage, but I think this must be from forgetting to rinse all salt from the bucket, or not drying can or bucket thoroughly. I would recommend storing the can upside down in the bucket so that any possible moisture/corrosion will be at the rim where it will do little harm, but the can will still be protected from dents.
The motor is silent but the gear train is noisy, because it's all spur gears. All gears but the final one are die-cast zinc, and the final looks like filled nylon or acetal. Gears and shafts are greased with white grease. I believe they should hold up nicely in home use. Motor is fan-cooled and has a self-resetting overheat protector.
All in all a good, lightweight but honest product that should last well if you get all the salt and moisture off after use.

ICE CREAM MAKER Review

ICE CREAM MAKER

I really love this little ice cream maker. I live alone, but often have an extra for dinner, and this is perfect. I had a larger one from when my kids were all at home, and when it died, I knew I wanted a way to make small batches. Homemade ice cream does not store well. I searched for a long time before I made my decision.
This little one is perfect, and it works like a charm. I keep both bowls in the freezer, so I can make two different flavors if I choose. I can't understand how anyone could claim it is hard to clean. The paddle and lid pop apart easily, and into the dishwasher. The freezer bowls take a swish of hot water, dry them and back into the freezer.
Most important -- it works. I make my own yogurt, and easily make frozen yogurt in minutes with no strange ingredients. I set it running while we eat -- usually takes about 10 minutes. I hop up to take the paddle out, and let it sit until we are ready for dessert. A quick stir, and it is perfect consistency. You can make up to 12 oz in one bowl -- perfect for two people. I especially love that it works equally well when I am making just a tiny amount for just me. If you love to experiment with exotic flavors that may be wonderful or awful (or expensive), you can make tiny batches to perfect your recipe.
I've been making ice cream for over 20 years, and I am having more fun than I ever did with my big machine. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store, makes great ice cream, and is as cute as can be -- what's not to love.

Rival GC9155 Gel Canister 1-1/2-Quart 2-Piece Electric Ice-Cream Maker Review

Rival GC9155 Gel Canister 1-1/2-Quart 2-Piece Electric Ice-Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

When I first got this I followed the directions on the box for chocolate cookie ice cream exactly (which specified refrigerating the mixture for 30 minutes and freezing the gel canisters for 24 hours). This gave me something at about the consistency of a runny milkshake. My second try involved refrigerating the mixture for 18 hours and freezing the gel canisters for around 36 hours. That was more of a thick milkshake.
My winning formula was refrigerating the mix overnight and freezing the canisters for a week in a 0 degree (F) deep freezer. This produced fairly soft ice cream, but still definitely ice cream (it did harden in the freezer afterward). I haven't yet experimented to see what the minimum time for a refreeze is, but bringing them down from room temperature the first time took a very long time.
If you want to make smallish batches of ice cream fairly often, then this is the ice cream maker for you. It doesn't require you to get bagged ice to cool the mixture, and the gel canisters collapse to take up less space in your freezer if you just store them there full time. If, on the other hand, you want large batches or only want to make ice cream for special occasions you're probably better off with a bagged ice and rock salt model.

Euro-Pro Triple Canister Ice Cream Maker Review

Euro-Pro Triple Canister Ice Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

We bought this unit because we were delighted to find an ice cream maker that allows you to make SMALL amounts, and even better, three different flavors (it allows you to make three distinct pints). We used it relentlessly for two weeks, and couldn't manage to make anything thicker than a milkshake. Worse yet, most of the results, when frozen, were like the unfortunate consequences of melted and refrozen ice cream: you get a sweet treat that's as hard as a rock, and impossible to serve unless you have an icepick and a sledgehammer! We weren't willing to put egg in our recipes, but wondering if that was the problem, we tried a vegan egg replacement product: that ended up our most successful batch, but by that point we'd already felt as if we'd had to fight too hard with the darned thing, and we didn't want to be forced to make only recipes that called for eggs, so we returned it. We just ordered a Cuisinart ICE-20 from Amazon to replace it, because a friend has that same unit and it makes absolutely delicious, perfect ice cream! She's made many recipes _without_ egg, and they come out fine.

I bought one of these last year and it worked very well for the first three times, then the gears broke. It costs $149.00 for a new motor, which is What you have to buy because you can't get the gear assembly by itself. the motor is fine but of no use without the gears. By the way there out of replacement motors.

This is the first time we have ever used an electric ice cream maker, so I have nothing to compare to. The motor keeps popping off when ice gets jammed around the can. I'm beginning to think the oval bucket is a bad design - there is no room for ice on the front or back, and that's where the ice gets jammed. Are we doing something wrong?
Otherwise, the ice cream came out fine. We had to stand there and hold the motor on.

Are the materials cheaply produced? When we took it out of the box, we were blown over by the chemical smell. After soaking the wooden tub, it went away, but my sinuses were burning by then.
Then we made the ice cream and that part was fun. But the motor stopped before the ice cream was frozen. Also, a disappointing thing happened - I could taste an aluminum aftertaste in the ice cream from the aluminum bowl. The ice cream literally tasted like aluminum foil. We have to take this back for a refund. We are looking for one with a steel bowl now.
Overall, a disappointing experience. I gave it one star because that was the only way to proceed making the review.

I was actually searching for other customer reviews in hopes of finding some helpful hints for this contraption. We purchased this product at Target about a year ago because we had relatives who had such good luck with their old fashioned crank-style ice cream churns. We liked the classic design and the electric mixing option. But we've had quite a bit of difficulty with this. The electric mixer seems to mix the cream too fast--often producing an almost "foamy" result. The crank method produces better results, but the crank mixing mechanism makes a lot of noise and doesn't work smoothly...and it takes a looong time for the ice cream to freeze (over 45 minutes for just a small batch--our salt/ice mixture tested 25 degrees). I was hoping I would find some positive reviews that would be helpful...but we bought a Cuisinart 2 qt. electric Ice Cream Maker tonight instead. :-( Anyone with positive experiences, please review as we'd be happy to dig this thing out and use it for company if we could know there was a way to get good ice cream in the end! Otherwise, I'm afraid that this product had a lot of potential, but is rather impractical--especially considering the fact that more user-friendly electric ice cream machines can be bought at a similar price.

The Deni ice cream maker does make ice cream that tastes good and has the right consistency. That's the bottom line, it makes ice cream as promised. We did find that you may need to put the mix in the freezer for 30-60mins before putting it in the maker. But that's not a big issue if you're not in a rush. Mixing with the handle is easy and only takes a few seconds every 2 mins. In the end the ice cream was good and appeared to be about the same as store bought or better.

In 20 to 30 minutes you'll have fresh, homemade ice cream, sorbets, sherbet, and ices the whole family will enjoy. What is Refurbished? When a product is refurbished, it is made to look like and operate as a brand new item should. Many times it is as simple as the box being opened by mistake or for quality checks. Once the box has been opened, that item cannot be sold as new. Items with serious malfunctions are not refurbished, it would cost too much to refurbish them to 'like new' condition. Each refurbished item we feature is completely inspected, rerun down the production line and triple checked for quality before being packed and shipped. Most of the time the only difference between new and refurbished is the brown box and the lower price, which is your gain as an educated consumer. I purchased this machine at the local Salvation Army for $2.97. I was so excited to get it home. But saddened when I looked at Amazon for reviews and was disappointed to see all the low reviews of this machine. I almost didn't try it. But one review stuck out... It basically said to READ THE DIRECTIONS! So I printed off the manual online (mine did not come with a manual or a box) I followed the directions to a 'T'. I froze the canister overnight in my coldest freezer. I made the Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream recipe in the manual, I made the first part and chilled it for SEVERAL hours. Added the vanilla and whipping cream just before pouring it into the canister. I didn't want to just sit and watch it so I set the timer for 20 minutes and got online to check mail. After 15 minutes I heard the machine struggling a bit. I went into the kitchen and I had lots of fluffy ice cream! I could have let it churn a bit more if I wanted to add some cookies or strawberries, bananas, etc. This is what I have learned:
1) Freeze the canister at least overnight. Better yet, store the canister in your freezer if you have the room. Then it's ready when you need it.
2) Make your batter up ahead of time and chill well.
3) READ YOUR DIRECTIONS (most important)
I think this is a great little machine for the money. I will be making homemade ice cream for my grandfather to go with his pecan pie for Thanksgiving.
Update: I have had requests as to where to download the manual. You download it right here at Amazon. When you are looking at the listing, just scroll down a bit and there is a PDF highlighted in blue to download. Or just "CTRL F" and search PDF while you are looking at the product at Amazon and you should find it.

The ice cream maker was easy to assemble but it would not quite freeze the ice cream enough. The plastic parts seem like they are designed to last about 2 weeks. I had to run it an extra 15 minutes and even then the ice cream was runny but the motor was about to burn up. The ice cream was good after I froze it overnight but I would stick to the conventional ice and salt method after this experience. Mine is going back to the place I bought it.

Black and Decker IC200 Arctic Twister Ice Cream Mixer
Average Reviews:

I read the reviews before purchasing it, and was pleasantly surprised when I tried it out. The ice cream came out easily firm enough for cones.

Suggestions for using:
1) place parts in freezer 10-15 min. before use
2) put toppings in freezer before using (if the toppings are warm they will melt the ice cream as they are mixing)
3) Buy a half-gallon of ice cream in the rectangular carton, open it up and use a butcher knife to quickly chop the ice cream into cubes to put into the machine (doesn't take long, so the ice cream is not too soft)--note: you can just fold the box back up and put it in a freezer bag when putting it away
4) rinse the parts immediately after use--easy clean-up
5) I make ice cream for my family, and then I eat the ice cream off of the "dasher" that everyone is complaining about (It is not sharp, and you can hold it like a big popsicle, and then not much is wasted)
Improvements Needed:
1) It mixes the ice cream a little slowly
2) It would be easier if the on/off switch didn't have to be held down constantly
