(More customer reviews)I liked this scale as first because it was accurate, allowed me to switch between units (which was important to me, since I often use recipes with metric units) and had a functional design. However, exactly three days after the return window for this item expired the scale "died". The on/off button started failing first, the units button followed, then it was only giving me gibberish. Too bad, I liked this scale and I am still sorry that I spent $25 on this piece of junk.

... the FOUR MINUTE before auto-cutoff. Not like the Taylor scale I had that cut off after one minute of nonuse. It was always cutting off on me before I was finished with it.
... and NO DEFAULT SCALE It's the same as when you last turned it off (if you were using grams, the next time you turn it on it's still in grams, OR ounces at OFF then it's ounces at ON). Tap the button to change g/oz on the fly.
... AND it holds A FULL ELEVEN pounds (5kg). I put a bag of flour on it, set tare, and scoop out until it reads xx-ounces (virtually impossible with a 6# scale).
Yeah, I was a chef for many years and more interested in utility over aesthetics in my equipment. I buy flour in 5# or 10# bags now instead of 50# or 100#. I used to have to have several scales -- one for portions and and one for weighing things like yeast and salt, and bigger ones for things like flour and meats. Now 11# is sufficient and this is still accurate enough for yeast and salt.
... Okay, so it's plastic instead of yuppie glass and chrome. It's accurate and well designed -- not heavy, temperamental, or hard to clean. It just works.
... Oh, and it doesn't use strange batteries (regular old AA batteries so you don't go into conniptions when you need replacements)

(More customer reviews)Just to give you guys a little background, I bake my own bread and to do so, I need to weigh the incredients rather than using a volumetric measurement such as Cups or liters. I've been baking for a few years now and as a result, I've gone through quite a number of kitchen scales. But every scale that I've owned in the past had a flaw or a 'foible' so to speak: weight limit being way too low, hard to read display, flimsy weighing platform, inconsistency... the list goes on. Of course, some cost way more than others, but for the price I paid for this scale, it was perfect.
Weight capacity - It can weigh things up to 11 lbs, which is important for me. In case you're wondering why, having a high limit allows you to weigh incredients in bowls, which can be heavy at times.
Simplicity - One thing I've noticed, is that if a scale is more complicated, its just more things that can break. This scale is simple yet it has all the necessary functions such as Tare, and Unit change.
Cleaning - The stainless weighing platform makes cleaning an easy task. Things just wipe right off.
Durability - The materials and construction seem very sturdy and well built. It doesnt seem as fragile as some of my past scales, and a definate plus is the sturdy weighing platform.
consistency - A scale is meant to weigh things, and if a scale can't to do that right, then we're in trouble. But have no worries, this scale is on the dot every time. ( use a nickel, which weighs 5.0 grams exactly )
Overall, its a great deal and its been flawless so far. Oh, and yes I could recommend it to others!
