I loved the super large capacity for my family of five, but that is the only good point about this machine. The clothes came out dirty! It was prety bad when even my husband commented on the way the clothes still looked dirty..... I tried this washer for 3 weeks, making all types of adjustments with cycles, detergent,load size, etc. in an attempt to somehow get clean clothes - but nothing helped - it just simply does not get them clean. Very disappointing for "new technology" - my 15 year old agitator was far superior! I have finally given up and have exchanged this machine for a front loader.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this washer in Sept 2009. It stopped working 15 months later. Repairman said "defective wash basket balance ring" and "had never seen this before". Also, he doubted he could get parts since the Whirlpool website says these parts are discontinued. Also "the tub bearings are starting to fail". His recommendation was to buy a new washer - it would cost about $700 to fix. This washer was never abused and only 3 people in the family so there was not that much laundry. I purchased a Whirlpool product and found out thru the repairman that this was not made by Whirlpool but by another company and after 1 year, Whirlpool canceled their contract with them. Lucky me. No where in the warranty or service manual did it state the this washer was made by someone other than Whirlpool. Also, the Whirlpool representative told me "I should have bought the extended warranty". Thanks for that bit of advice. My money literally went down the drain. If I could give it "NO STARS" I would.

(More customer reviews)I bought the Cabrio (WTW5640) at Lowe's after my 30-year-old Kenmore bit the dust. I can't believe how well it cleans! It does sound way different than a washer with an agitator. The cycles are a little bit longer, but boy, does it clean! My winter jacket has never looked better. It works really well on stains, too. Especially blood. Not to be gross, but ladies - you know what I mean. I have also washed throw blankets that the damned cat has barfed on, and they've come out as clean as a whistle. The only drawback - if you can call it that - is if you're short you may have trouble reaching into the washer. It's pretty deep. I've had it for just over a month now and am very pleased. I also got the matching dryer, but come on - a dryer is pretty much a dryer. Although it does have a light inside so you can see every last sock in there. All in all, I'm glad I went ahead and spent the money.

(More customer reviews)After 5 years of 'hating' my Whirlpool Duet frontloaders, I got rid of them and after MUCH research (probably 20 hours) decided on this set. I found negative comments on every set I researched. Negative comments whether you're researching front or top loaders. My towels are RUINED from the mold smell of my frontloader. NEVER again will I own one of them. I had to go with the machines that had the least of downside. Downside of this one? It SPINS so dry it wrinkles. So.....just give a good hard shake BEFORE putting in the dryer, and the wrinkles come out. The dryer is finished drying WAY before a 'normal' load is done washing. With my 'Duets'....I had to dry for 80-90 minutes, and Whirlpool could never find a reason for the problem. This set of machines, typically dries in 30 minutes! My typical wash load is for 50min with the selection I'm using. Everyone that came to visit me (thats close enough to me to tell me the truth) HATED using my 'frontloaders'. I ALWAYS had to RE-WASH my husbands food stained shirts, second time around being sure to 'pre-soak' them. NOT with my Maytag Bravos TopLoaders! They're clean the first time around. I do have to make myself remember to 'push' the "OxiClean" button for the Borax I'm using in the separate dispenser. Otherwise its still sitting there dry and unused. I love the huge size too! I'm so happy with them I could become a professional wash-woman!! Haha....

(More customer reviews)Last week we purchased this Cabrio 5700 washer along with a 5600 dryer(non glass front,Great Buy!). We really did not need the washing machine as we have a Maytag conventional 2 years old; however our original GE dryer died and we went ahead and bought anyway because of the fantastic Labor day sales and $100 in rebates from the local power company and State. We do a lot of laundry. We have two young boys who get clothes dirty, quickly and my wife an I also have uniforms that need frequent washing. I am always a skeptic and overly research items, peruse product reviews into the wee hours of the morning, basically become a bit obsessive over the whole deal (per wife).
As I write, I am conducting yet another experiment to see what this thing can handle. It is on the Heavy Duty cycle-Heavy soil-cool water- Deep clean option. I have in the machine, 6 pair of 11 oz canvas hiking pants, 1 pair of bluejeans (all sized 36/34) and two thick Field-n-Stream non lined flannel shirts. The load is up to the top of the stainless tub and the clothes are semi loose, spread around the center. This is a heavy load for clothes and I would not normally load it this thick. Initially the tub fills with the soapy solution and then agitates. The agitator is definitely under some stress as the motion is measurably subdued compared to a normal load of mixed fabrics. The tub fills 3 more times as the cycle progresses. The manual states on the Heavy Duty cycle that it will do this because the recommended fabrics for the cycle absorb more water than normal type loads. Because the machine has a glass top, I am able to observe the whole cycle. Through out the course of the cycle, all of the items eventually make it through the solution a few times. I had my doubts but was proved wrong. This load when wet looked like quite a force to recon with however the machine did as advertised and being able to observe this through the glass top is a real plus.
Whites cycle is excellent!. Bulky cycle handled a queen size thick cotton hand made quilt very well. The water level in the tub on the Bulky setting is quite a lot. I did have to open the lid and even out the quilt due to it having an unbalanced load during the spin cycle. The wet quilt was sooo heavy that this was sort of expected. Not a concern for us. Today I washed 4 washable silk shirts on the delicate cycle and these came out great as well. The delicate cycle also fills up with a higher level of water and agitator speeds are slower. We have put towels through the Heavy Duty cycle and the Whites cycle and have had no issues. No twisting into knots or ripping. FWIW Front load washers are not exempt from tying items into knots! A feature I wish this had is what Whirlpool put into the larger capacity models which is when the load is going through the initial soak down, the basket rotates so all of the load gets saturated. Currently the load makes it through anyways via agitation so this wish is not a deal breaker. I DO recommend this product. If it did not meet my expectations it would have been sent back, Period!

(More customer reviews)This appears to be the most expensive top loader. We got it because it handles huge huge amounts of laundry and it fits into our small laundry area (unlike the side loaders). Our first one had a lot of problems from day one. Loud squeaks, and a finger print INSIDE of the "minutes left" display. On a brand new high end machine that is really unacceptable (they came out 4 times to fix the loud squeak but never could). I did not buy this on Amazon I got mine at a local place and I kept calling and bugging the manager until he gave in and switched out my lemon for a good one. Ask yourself the question "will the place I am buying this from REPLACE it if I get a lemon" because our lemon could not be fixed, it had to be replaced. Once we got a good one it turned out to be just an amazing machine, very low energy use and thoroughly cleans huge amounts of laundry. Also very quiet (once we got a machine without a squeak).

Its huge capacity is great for washing bulky items like comforters, sleeping bags and pillows. Our laundry center is located in the very center of our raised foundation hose. This machine has low vibration and is very quiet. As an engineer, I appreciate the idea the LG Wave is designed around a direct-drive motor which eliminates drive belts, pulleys, complicated gear-driven transmissions and many moving parts. The simplicity of the direct-drive design should enhance and facilitate better reliability, longer life, fewer repairs and lower life-cycle costs. I've owned Kenmore washing machines since 1966 and have had great luck with Kenmore appliances over the years. Several LG top-loading and front-loading washers have been re-labeled and re-branded as Kenmores. I got a great deal on the LG Wave that couldn't be refused. In fact, the LG in Graphite Steel was $150 cheaper than the same LG washer in white. I chose the WT5101 over the WT5001 because it has a sanitary cycle. The WT5101 was also cheaper than the WT5001.

(More customer reviews)In past 2 years I have purchased 2 Avanti machines, each one lasts about 7-8 months before it breaks. and then warrenty runs out. As I spoke to customer service of Avanti, they say "its unfortunate that it breaks, sorry to hear that" you can get it fixed, yes machine costs around $300 and to fix is $200 with change. They appologize that they don't stand behind quality but there is nothing you can do, so if you want and ready to buy Avanti on a yearly basis , it most definately lasts a year, I called mechanic only 2 times to get it fixed within the 1st year.
other then that, Avanti machines have another exellent feather, each wash takes forever about 30-40 min considering it's a very small machine, so its implied for those who have $300/year to buy on yearly basis and those who have plenty of time to wait for each small wash. Another feature i would like to point out is leakage from the bottom, as mechanic said "it's manufactured like this" it's non fixable, so in other words, once the wash goes on it leaks downstairs, it ruins my floor but the best part, if you don't like your downstairs neighbor you definately give them a problem of leekage from top.
when you speak to customer service, they are great with their responses "sorry unfortunately nothing can be done"
