Straight to the point. This machine does what a dryer should do and efficiently.
Between this and the matching washing machine Maytag model MVWB850WQ0 they have made doing laundry fun again.
They replaced my my prior Whirlpool top loader washer and dryer. The extra capacity washer and dryer along with the high efficiency washer have increased my wash time from start to end. Plus increased size of wash loads with a large family of 5 that seems to be never ending. I actually feel like I'm ahead of the game instead of playing catch up.
The steam feature for refreshing a load that has been seating works. Plus is outstanding on knocking the wrinkles out of some clothing very quickly.
I had to wait 5 weeks from time of purchase to delivery. I suspect this is due to people catching on to what a good deal these machines are. Not to mention you don't have to worry about the extra expense of pedestals and on the washer the increased possible mold/smell issues. I highly recommend this machine. Worth the extra money.

I am writing due to the piece of crap Cabrio we purchased exactly 4 years ago this week:
This was the review I wrote after having this piece of crap one month:
I bought the Cabrio on 10/9/06 and by 10/23/06 it was not working properly. I contacted Whirlpool on 11/9/06 and they informed me that they needed to send a repairman out. It has several problems. The load is out of balance (UL) or I get an error "F51" every single time I try to wash a load. My husband and I are the only ones in our household so the machine is not abused (By teenagers etc). The repairman was at our house for 3 1/2 hours on 11/14/06. He ordered a wiring harness, a computer board and a censor for this 1 MONTH OLD MACHINE. I called Whirlpool in frustation simply asking them to take this LEMON back. They offered nothing and they were quite rude in the process. They said my only option was to have my machine repaired....and so the circle begins.
Our last set was a Maytag and we had the set (still are using the dryer) for over 12 years. Boy how we regret going to Whirlpool. Please take my advice and SAVE YOUR MONEY. I would hate for anyone to go through what Whirlpool has put us through.
BTW...my BRAND NEW machine is sitting idle until the repairman can come out IN A WEEK (for another 3 1/2 hours) to put in these parts that he HOPES will work.
UPDATE:
It is now exactly 4 years later and the only reason I suffer with this machine is due to the fact we PAID SOOOO MUCH MONEY FOR IT!!
The front is now rusted out!!! YES, RUSTED OUT!! And, it takes me about a day to wash ONE LOAD of Laundry...I get an "F1" (I believe it should be FU) about 4 times at the beginning of a load and then when it goes to rinse I get an F1 again approximately 3 times!! Sometimes I have to start from scratch with an entirely different setting.
The only satisfaction I've gotten over the past 4 years is writing horrible reviews on your product and making sure everyone I talk to about laundry (and it's a lot more times than any normal person should have to talk about laundry!!) how they should NEVER spend a dime on a whirlpool!
This is an absolute piece of crap and I cannot believe you have never done a thing to rectify this situation!!
So sad that you could have and should have taken care of this FOUR YEARS Ago!
When my husband calls your useless 800 number he just gets sent around in a big circle and then is told you are CLOSED.
I will never buy another Whirl pool product as long as I live!!
Please do something about this piece of crap taking up space in my laundry room and BEEPING at me ALL DAY LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had my washer and dryer set for only a month and although I know that isn't very long to test out an appliance that should work well for years to come I've already run into some issues. This is my first washer and dryer purchase and I have only used top loaders before so let me say this is all a new experience for me. I did my research and knew there was issues with all front loading washer with mildew so to make sure the door was left open and the detergent drawer out when not in use. Well knowing that, I always do when I am not continuously using it. The detergent drawer is always wet and often has a puddle of water- in which I have to remove the whole thing and go into my kitchen to empty the water out. There is always a little bit of water in the gray seal which now I keep a towel close by to stick in there and mop it up. I have not seen any different in my clothes getting cleaner and in fact am a little frustrated since I can't clean my clothes quite the same way I did with the top loaders. The one time I did use bleach, I must say was easier than with a top loader and far better results. I was skeptical and let's say even scared since I couldn't manually mix the bleach in with the soapy water but there is a little line that tells you how much bleach you should use (which was less than I normally do# and my the clothes with some slight coloring did not discolor and all the white was whiter. I was so happy with that, I just wish I could do bleach in all my loads. I don't really notice a difference in noise or energy savings since I often have to do an extra rinse cycle #esp with sheets, blankets, towels) to get enough water out to put it in the dryer. Also in the seal where the water gets built up- so do socks especially little childrens socks and they are just soaking wet in this puddle of water- it's absolutely disgusting to fish out. Blah.

I do not own this particular model. I own the Model 600. Other than a few additional bells and whistles on my model, the two washers are pretty much identical, so I feel my warning comments regarding the washer I had the misfortune to purchase will be of use to someone considering purchasing this one.
This might be a great washer for someone who does not own pets, but if you have pets as I do (two cats), run from this thing like the plague! It has no clue how to remove pet hair from clothing.
My old washer had a strainer on top of the agitator that caught hair and lint as it was carried by the recycling water during the wash and rinse cycles. This thing has no way to remove pet hair and lint except to strain it through the clothing as it drains water at the end of each cycle. The result is that whatever pet fur and lint had been removed just settles back onto the clothing; the best it can do is redistribute the pet fur and lint. It's discouraging to have to "lint roll" freshly washed clothes so that they are presentable for wearing. It's even more discouraging to know that the 25-plus year old "antique" that I threw away was far, far more effective in removing hair from clothing than this modern marvel.
I even e-mailed Maytag with my complaints. They had no answers, just suggestions that I use the bulky setting to bring more water into the tub (and thus offset the water savings I was told I would get) and use more detergent--both of which I'd tried in vain before contacting the company.

It's a great machine but you can save four hundred bucks by buying an IQ-Touch instead. There is nothing a Wave-Touch can do that an IQ-Touch can not. The Wave-Touch has 4 distinguishing features over the IQ:
1. The Wave spins at 1350 vs. the IQ's 1200 rpm. No big deal. I don't think there's any practical difference in the amount of water extracted that will make a real dent in the drying time.
2. The Wave has an "Active Wear" cycle. It's not something you'd ever miss if your machine did not have it in the first place. You can use the IQ's "Casual wear" cycle instead, which differs from the Active Wear cycle by only 5 minutes.
3. The Wave's options are hidden in tedious to use menus and submenus, instead of the IQ's simple to use buttons. Buttons win here because you can see at a glance what options are active, especially useful for the next time you use the washer. With the Wave-Touch's menu style you'll be forced to scroll through the menus to see what options have been selected.
4. Wave-Touch has 3 favorites memory buttons vs. one favortie for the IQ-Touch. I have yet to find this feature useful. When one is useless to me, having 3 doesn't make it any better.
Construction-wise the two machines are otherwise identical.
Conclusion: The Wave costs $300 to $400 more than the IQ and delivers the same level of performance as the IQ. The Wave is for people who have money to burn. Okay, with a bit of sheepishness I have to admit I did buy a Wave instead of an IQ.
Now, let me review the Wave with steam function, since that's the one I actually bought.
The machine is exceedingly quiet when washing. The only real noise comes during the spin cycles.
As for vibration, make sure you balance the machine using a good quality level and follow the leveling instructions. Read the manual and it's imperative that the shipping bolts be removed per the instructions before using the machine!!! My house has a crawl space. My laundry room is on the first floor, where the washer would be perfectly capable of transmitting vibration if it was not leveled properly. So far it's been very smooth, in fact much smoother than my previous top-loader, with hardly much of any vibration. Keep in mind that every load is different and each load has its own vibration and noise characteristics. Some loads will be vibration free, other loads with a very unbalanced load (pillows and comforters, for example) will have some vibration. If it vibrates at all it's almost always during the spin up and spin down phase of the spin cycle. Once it actually gets into the spin cycle, there is usually little vibration.
This washer is quite ingenious in fighting vibration by ramping up to full spin speed in incremental stages. During the first stage, it slowly rotates the wet load counterclock-wise to test for balance, and also to pump out water. If it detects even the slightest hint of an unbalanced load, it will stop and reverse direction, i.e. spin clockwise, at the same slow rpm to let the clothes to shuffle in the drum. After a few seconds of this clockwise spin, it reverses direction again, i.e. counter-clockwise again, it then tests for balance again. If it again detects a poor balance, it will keep on doing this reversing direction routine until it redistributes the load evenly. When it's finally satisfied that the balance is good, it will then launch into high spin speeds in several stages. Frequently, after it has launched into a higher speed, it detects unacceptable vibration. It will instantly abort the spin and perform the shuffling routine again and again until it gets the balance right. It's not uncommon for it to go back and forth many times for as long as 5 minutes to find the sweet spot. As more water is progressively pumped out and the load becoming progressively lighter and better balanced, it will proceed to the next higher speed, finally maxing out at 1350 rpm, during the last 2 minutes of the spin cycle.
As for the steam feature, I've yet to find definitive evidence that it's the steam itself that gets the dirt out. The steam cycle essentially adds 20 minutes of wash time to any wash cycle using either warm water or hot water. Maybe it's the extra 20 minutes of washing in warm water in the steam cycle that does the trick. It's hard to tell.
It washes loose clothing very well while using little water. By "loose clothing," I mean items that are somewhat small and that will wet easily and shrink in volume as they are wetted. Items with these characteristics can freely tumble around one another inside the drum, as long as the machine is not overloaded. However when it comes to washing bulky big loads, such as pillows and synthetic fiber comforters, synthetic fiber bedspreads, etc., its miserliness in water use is its biggest flaw. With these bulky items, the water level is woefully inadequate to thoroughly wet the interior mass. And because they are synthetic fiber items, they don't shrink much in volume even when wetted, so they don't have much room to rotate inside the drum. The same side of the pillow or comforter then faces the drum and the center side doesn't ever get enough water. So, the side facing the drum surface gets cleaned but the center side doens't get cleaned. I bought this washer specifically to wash big bulky items such as pillows and synthetic fiber comforters, so it's a bit disappointing that it doesn't clean these items well. The way to get around this problem is to pause the machine after it's finished filling, and add water on your own either through the door or through the detergent tray. It works. Adding about 1 to 2 gallons of hot water fixes the problem.
I still love the washer, but only wish it had a "bulky items" selection which would allow it to have more water during the wash cycle. I believe this problem with washing bulky items is endemic to all high effiency front load washers and not just Electrolux. The real wish is to allow a separate button to vary the water level, like that found on my old Kenmore top-loader, but I don't think we'll ever see that water level selection switch on these high efficiency washers. I think the Electrolux designers' hands were tied by the stringent Federal energy efficiency standards.

This is by far the WORST appliance I have ever purchased. It all started when I noticed an extremely foul rotten eggs smell. Called the manufacturer who told me to check the filter. Turns out a sock got caught in there and stunk up the machine.
I thought things were fixed but after this happened I noticed it wouldn't drain certain loads of wash (towels and slightly larger loads). I would end up with sopping wet clothes.
As if that wasn't enough sometimes it would lock the door but other times (when it probably should have locked) it wouldn't.
The last straw was when the washer "exploded". After less than three years of having the washer, I was washing a very thin mattress pad. All of the sudden I heard a loud thump and crash. When I entered the laundry room I found my washer moved out three feet from the wall on a diagonal with the door and detergent draw wide open and the washer STILL SPINNING! I'm lucky the washer didn't fall through to the basement.
I called customer service right away and they told me there is nothing they can do. I would have to PAY for a repair. No way! This thing is going to the curb. I am never purchasing another Frigidaire product again. WORST SERVICE EVER!

I am surprised by the negative review by the other gentleman. My wife and I bought this washer two years ago because we wanted a high-efficiency machine but the front-loaders were too deep to fit in our tiny laundry room. We have had no problem with this machine. It saves us about $5 on our water bill every month. It gets our clothes clean--much better than my old Kenmore and Maytag conventional top-loaders. It gets more moisture out of the laundry due to high-speed spin, and our laundry spends far less time in the matching dryer. In fact, virtually every load except towels will be completely dry in less than 40 minutes, and it uses only medium heat to get there. I literally have to try to shrink something in this washer if I buy something a size too big, and even when I try it is difficult to do. No repairs or problems so far.

Oh my gosh this freakin thing is loud. It's supposed to have noise reduction but it's the loudest washer I've ever heard. When it changes cycles, especially to spin cycle, we all nearly jump out of our skin. It sounds like a pneumatic catapult launcher banging. And the delicate cycle is anything but. It sounds like the intention is to remove ink and tar stains from burlap bags.
DUCK AND COVER!!!
The only redeeming quality is that on regular cycle, in spite of the noise, does get clothes clean.
If you want a good, reasonably priced, American made washer, look for a Speed Queen. They're a little hard to find but worth it.

As there is no need to repeat the positive comments made by the other 5-Star raters from this AND OTHER sites (with whom I totally agree), I'll just give a couple other comments/observations.
First, regarding the "noise": When I initially read these complaints - here and other sites (prior to purchase), I instantly thought, "Every washer I've ever owned makes that noise when the contents are very unevenly distributed". So I bought this model (based on the positive reviews); and I am s-o-o-o-o-o glad I did. Although NO washer I ever owned/used has been "SOUND-FREE" (SILENT), this one is quieter than ANY of the others - no "NOISE" - well, at least for the first 3- 4 days! Then there it was - a very LOUD THUMPING SOUND - "NOISE". This was my opportunity to test my theory. About 30 seconds or so earlier I had lifted the lid during the spin cycle; and apparently dislodged some items from their balanced positions. When I lifted the lid and saw that this, indeed, was the case, I simply rearranged the items (as with previous machines), closed the lid, and VOILA - problem resolved - back to quiet operation!!! Also, sometimes when tub is not centered, noise can occur - with ANY washer.
Second, I DO wish there was a TRULY HOT WATER option! This washer adjust water temp by alteranating hot with cool or warm to obtain what IT senses is the IDEAL temp for each load - based on the user's setting selections; however, I must admit that my "WHITES" DO get really clean. So I guess it's not a real issue!
SUMMARY: Not too fancy and/or expensive! Excellent basic washer (with some nice features - i.e. "extra rinse"cycle)! Does what it's suppose to do - gets laundry clean; and, does so superbly well! QUIET - WHEN BALANCED! I am extremely happy with this washer; and, would GLADLY recommend to my friends!!!

I had a very cheap washer that lasted for 5 years. When it broke down, rather than considering spending $50 just to have someone look at it, I decided to buy a new one.
I wanted a front-loading washer because they are gentler on clothes and use less water. However, after looking at some, I realized they were mostly pretty expensive.
I did a lot of research and Consumer Reports rated this washer as the best I could hope to get for the price. Finally after much shopping, I found a white one online and ordered it. I installed it myself in about 10 minutes and started washing.
We've now owned it for 4 or 5 months and I love it. It is very easy to run, very stable and operates flawlessly. I have washed all sorts of things in it and have never had a single problem. We have this in our kitchen-area right off the living room and, while it is a little bit noisy, it is much quieter than the other standard machine I had.
The one thing I've been a little trepidatious about is the detergent drawer which feels sort of cheaply made and ill-fitting. However, I've been careful with it and have learned how to use it and it really isn't that bad. Don't let that sway you from purchasing this machine. I really think you can't get anything better for your money. Even machines that cost over 2x didn't have the performance rating this one had.

our LG steam washer is 7 months old and we have a bad musty mildew odor coming from the machine. It took me a while to realize this smell was from the washer but I found that the front door seal holds about a 1/2 cup of water after the cycle and that water stagnates and turns into black goo that smells really bad. In our old house we had kenmore HE3 machine and never had that problem and they did just as good a job or better. I feel the LG has a design flaw and for being top rated and costing $$$$ that this is unaceptable. I would not buy this machine again.

I conducted a LOT of research before we decided on this Amana front load washing machine. Our 13 year old Kenmore top loader finally died, and we were in the market for a quality washing machine in the four hundred to eight hundred dollar range or so. 'Consumer Reports' rated this machine highly, as did actual owners/users of it on various other sites, including Home Depot's. Even if the reviews may be 'carefully culled' (as a previous reviewer stated), certainly the excellent user reviews on the 'Consumer Reports' website were not. There were many negative reviews written up for other washers on that site as well. In any case, we were smitten by the price, features, and excellent reviews the Amana garnered, so purchasing this machine was a 'no brainer'. It uses much less electricity and water than a conventional top loader, has an automatic reservoir dispenser for laundry detergent, fabric softener, and bleach, and a second rinse cycle, as well as a 'quick wash' and other longer washes, which is perfect. Our clothes and comforters (full and queen sized) came out smelling great, and best of all, the spin cycle got our clothes the driest i've ever seen in all my years of using commercial and residential washing machines. Consequently, drying time has been cut down substantially. The 'knob issue' that some people bring up is really a 'non issue', since you can re-start the washer by re-pressing the knob if you accidentally bump into it. But truth be told, unless your laundry room is extremely cramped, or you have to reach over and above the washing machine to get something off a shelf, most people will never bump the washer to the off position. Also, the previous reviewer's mention of the washer not turning off is nonsense. Of course the washer turns off when the spin cycle ends. The LED indicators that stay on are just there to remind you that the wash is done, and that you have to open the door and retrieve your laundry. This doesn't mean the machine is actually on. It is not. Another non-issue. All in all, my wife and I are ecstatic and floored by the cleaning ability and sheer value afforded by this phenomenal machine! Amana truly hit a 'home run' with this unit in all respects. If you don't believe me, go read all the online reviews, including 'Consumer Reports'. Buy with confidence.

This model seems very sensitive to the balance of clothes for it to spin properly. I got rid of a 17 year old washer that seldom had to have the clothes moved around but this one is a constant pain. Even when you shuffle clothes around there is no guarantee that it will spin at top speed so you wait around and then rebalance again or take out clothes. Sorry I got rid of old washer that was still working. Look around for something better.
