It only weighed 13 pounds in the packaging, the enclosure is plastic, and know pullout tray. i payed 86$ for this item and could have got the same exact item for $29.99. I was not disappointed. It was fun. My "helpers" were my 5-year-old and 2-year-old sons and they had a really great time baking with Mom. That was the important part.
As for taste, don't use the recipe that comes with the instructions. Very bland. They were also very cake-like no matter if they were left in for one or three minutes. I'd prefer something more crunchy so now the search for the best recipe begins...
Finally, kudos to amazon as the first one that was sent to me (in better packaging) arrived damaged. They had a replacement here the next day and myself and my boys were not disappointed while waiting for packages to be exchanged. Thank you!!

Spend your money on something else worth while!!! unless this company make some major changes to get their machine to work proper , its nothing but junk !

This kit includes replacement paper cones for use with your machine, and 4 small packets of floss (colored and flavored sugar for use in making cotton candy).
I'm sure this is a fine set, but $20+ is the wrong price. Something close to $5 is the right price.
If you've seen this kit and the small, toy machine amount of floss that it comes with, you will laugh out loud when you see that you can buy 52oz of floss for under $4.00 right here on Amazon by searching for this item:

(More customer reviews)My cotton candy maker arrived 6 days ago and I've used it every day since.
I heated it up for about 8 minutes before adding the sugar/candy, and the floss appeared about a minute after that. Since there were a lot of kids lined up to test the results, the two plastic cones that come with it weren't nearly enough to go around so we used thin 12" long wooden dowel rods which you can get at a craft store for about 5 cents each.
Before you make your first batch, you may want to watch some clips on making cotton candy on youtube. There is a certain technique to it but once you get the hang of it it's very easy.
We had it running, on and off, for about an hour as we tried different flavors and candies. The motor kept going strong the whole time. Make sure it's on a stable surface because the kids will want to lean in as far as they can to watch it.
It works with both hard candy and the sugar cotton candy mixes like Flossine. We found that it doesn't work as well with the hard candy that's typically pretty sticky, like Jolly Ranchers. The manufacturer also recommends not using round hard candy, like sour balls.
Clean up is a cinch. The metal spinner part and the plastic bowl come off, then you just soak them in hot water for a few minutes and the sugar dissolves.
Definitely the most fun appliance I've ever owned!

(More customer reviews)Having had a passion for cotton candy since I think birth, I was goofing around one day and came across this machine, and bought it. It was super easy to put together, good thing cuz the instruction sheet is a rough picture (just use the hex head screws on the bottom, the round heads for the trays, put a washer on everything. Long bolts for wheels, short bolts on front legs 3 screws hold the dome on.). No tools required, they give you everything. Perfect, no parts left over... always a good thing! I plugged the thing in and turned it on empty and everything spun centered. I then poured in the sugar they give me, and turned it back on. Within 2-3 seconds here came the cotton candy and within 20 seconds my wife was gobbling hers down. The machine also came with cones and 2 flavors of sugar so your all set to play right away. Cleanup is super easy too! The bowl is coated so the sugar line falls right off and wipes right out, that's all there is to it, other than run all the sugar out of the spinner.
This machine will be allot of fun for many years! It came with an extra set of brushes for the motor, and another set of fuses too. I missed Halloween this year but next year I will start a new tradition for the kids. One down thing is making cotton candy smokes up the house a little, but it's happy sweet smoke, and although you can see it, it smells nice in here.

(More customer reviews)I'm totaly disapointed with this machine. It throws the unmelted sugar all over the kitchen, then the half melted sugar shoots out and sticks to the bowl. When it finaly gets hot enough to make cotton candy, there isn't much sugar left to make the cotton candy. If you add more sugar at this point, the shooting/spraying/throwing process starts all over! Also, make sure that you hold on to the machine while it is running. If you dont, the vibration is so bad that the machine will "walk" itself right off the table or counter.
