(More customer reviews)Though visually appealing, it is the worst engineering design ever -- there is no chute for the popcorn to be guided into a bowl. I agree with other writers -- popcorn and hot kernels everywhere, which pop wherever they land and have a bland taste. TONS of unpopped kernels in the bottom of the bowl, with a burned scorch to them. The Rival seems to be a truly dangerous design, and it's hard to believe they haven't voluntarily or involuntarily recalled it. Over the years, I have had much better experience with Presto and want to return to Presto, even though it is a less visually appealing design -- OK if you like 70s retro, though!

The problem lies with the two plastic gears that turn the sweeper.Heat melted the way the gears are attached to the metal rods.I fixed mine with"Liquid Nails" but after further use the gears became brittle and cracked and I gave up. I chose the less expensive one first but the plastic gear between turn handle and internal rotary paddle got stripped. Heat and plastic are not a compatible combination. (More customer reviews)This is a very poorly made, cheap popcorn popper. I should have been suspicious when the manufacturer's product description on the item page describes a meat grinder ("This meat grinder lets you create fresh, top-quality meats and spreads in minutes.") Someone messed up on that one! A flimsy plastic housing gets extremely HOT HOT HOT and is almost too hot to touch after the popcorn is finished popping. Just turning the switch to "off" was hazardous because you have to be careful not to touch the body of the popper while doing so. And talk about LOUD - sounds like someone is using a leaf blower in your kitchen! It only takes 1/4 cup of kernels at a time, which does NOT make very much popcorn. Then you're advised to wait 15 minutes before popping another batch. I bought this hoping that it would be similar to the Presto popper, only with the highly coveted "on/off" switch everyone wishes the Presto had. Big mistake! This is more expensive than the Presto, but it is NOT worth it. Save your money & buy a microwave popper. I had a microwave popper (Nordic Ware) for over 10 years and just recently wanted a replacement because it's not performing as good as it used to. I'll be getting another Nordic Ware microwave popper since that worked wonders in the past!

(More customer reviews)I received this as a Christmas gift and have used it a couple of times. Mine came in a snazzy red, not pictured here. For the first batch, I followed the directions exactly using the maximum quantity of kernels and was rewarded with a house that smelled like a movie theater lobby and about a cubic foot of popcorn. The instructions say to turn it off after the last kernel pops. Usually, I can't tell which pop will be the last and err on the side of burnt. I left it running a bit longer than the last pop and it came out just fine. For the next batch, I used less oil and added stuff through the steam-holes in the bucket (ancho chile powder and a little truffle oil) during popping. Que Rico!
The stirring rod comes off for cleaning, and the bottom surface is non-stick. My only complaint is that the bucket is not dishwasher-safe. Also, I have a small kitchen, so I like that it has a small footprint.
Overall, I'm impressed with this little machine.

The only complaint I have is that it is almost impossible to clean the inside of the clear plastic sides near the top due to the sharp metal pot supports that get in the way. Would be nice if the top were removable. Makes great popcorn. I use two tbsp of canola oil, half cup of yellow popcorn, and half- to full tsp popcorn salt depending on taste. Pour the oil into the preheated pot, add salt, then popcorn. Pops very quickly.

(More customer reviews)Our popper has exceeded our expectations. It pops faster than is stated, and the eight ounce servings can be cranked out fast to cater to a large crowd. Oil is steaming in about 90 seconds and about three minutes later the corn is popped. Very fast and just what we needed. Considering the mess popcorn oil makes, it cleans up relatively easily by just wiping it with warm dish cloth and paper towels. A bonus is that kids and adults light up when they see it and all have said the popcorn tastes great. So far we have only used the pre-measured corn and oil as I bought a case and we haven't finished all of that yet. But it looks like measuring out your own corn/oil will work just as well. Finally, someone at the local hardware store has a similar commercial grade popper they use to give customers free popcorn. One day I was there and they had caramel corn. I mentioned to the owner that I had just bought a popper and he gave us a Gold Meadow caramel corn packet to try. I had no idea this could make caramel corn but it does. It's messy, but hey, it's caramel corn.
Updated: In case you were wondering, this is the Gold Medal glaze that the gentleman at the hardware store gave me to try: Gold Medal Prod. 2534 Caramel Glaze Pop . You may have to search elsewhere to find it in smaller quantities. I have not tried it but this product Caramel Corn Popcorn Flavoring is available on Amazon in smaller quantities and appears that it would work in this popper as well since the instructions are the same as the Gold Medal product and it glazes the corn while popping. Onother product that will work in this popper is 24-7.4 oz. Caramel Snap Pak - Caramel Glaze, Yellow Popcorn, White Coconut Oil , which contains the corn, oil and glaze all together. There are also dozens of caramel seasonings and glazes available that you can add after the corn is popped, but the glaze while cooking method is probably better than most of those.

(More customer reviews)This product is great in theory only. The promise of getting the taste and crunch of a pan-popped corn was a pipe dream. The design is poor. The lid traps the steam inside during the cooking process and results in tough, rubbery, styrofoam-textured corn. Plus, the popped corn had a weird taste that is indescribable.
We are loyal Cuisinart customers and have used the same model coffee maker for over 10 years. When one wears out, we quickly purchase another of the same. We were very shocked that Cuisinart developed such an under-performing product. And, as popcorn lovers, our disappointment was huge.

Also, the handle could stand to be a bit longer. It got us thru the night but if you are a diehard roaster, invest in a heavy-duty one.

(More customer reviews)This product has been perfect for my household! We typically make 2-3 batches of popcorn 3-4 nights a week. We've had no problems with it. It's lightweight & easy to clean. If you want popcorn for more than 2-4 people, it might be best to purchase a larger size machine, but for 2-4 people, it's just right. The small batches make it easy to pop for just 1 or 2 people, and the short time it takes to pop additional batches make it easy to serve up to 4. It's a great product!

The Original Whirley Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper Theater Style Popcorn Set Review

(More customer reviews)I have purchased several Whirley Pop Popcorn Poppers from Amazon and other locations. Everyone who sees me use it wants one and thus I have given them to friends as Christmas presents. Rather than restate many things covered in other reviews I will point out a few things.
Before popping make sure the tips of the arms that stir the popcorn are pointed up. If these become flipped while cleaning and the tips point down the tips grind the bottom of the pan.
The directions tell you not to use butter but I have no problem using a mix of half butter and half olive oil.
When buying packages of premeasured popcorn/salt/oil do not buy the 8 oz. size. These are too large for the popper and you have to take it off of the stove before it completes. This results in very salty and oily popcorn. Stick with the 4 or 6 oz. packages.
Remember, solid oils are bad for you and this is what is used in most packages that include the popcorn, oil and salt. If you are buying a Whirley Pop to get away from the hazards of microwave popcorn then consider using olive oil.
Crank slowly. All you need to do is move the popcorn around for even heating. Cranking too fast causes the popcorn to push up onto the side of the pan.
Once the popping is done it may seem convenient to shake a cheese mix into the pan and use the crank to mix it into the popcorn. If you do this the cheese with stick to the shaft and arms of the popper. Pour your popcorn into a bowl before adding flavorings.

We never had any problems with soggy popcorn, perhaps because we remove the thin plastic lid from the top while it is popping. Which is something I think you are suppose to do otherwise you would get too much condensation built up inside the bowl. When it is done we attach the lid before we release the bowl from the hot plate and invert it. This product has been used heavily for 4 years and still works great. I am purchasing another one today for my daughter and her sorority house to enjoy.

(More customer reviews)We just trialed the counter top hot air popcorn popper by Dolci. Very satisfied with its performance. In spite of old popcorn (back of the cupboard jar!) most of the corn popped. True, it sounds as though a freight train is speeding through your kitchen, however the high decibels proved worth it. Texture and taste of hot air popcorn is notoriously like hard styrofoam--this popcorn was tasty and light. Beware though--this popcorn popper draws a lot of current. If you are in an older home, you may find it tripping breakers. The 'keep warm' feature is great, especially useful because this popper pops a big batch and unless you have a houseful you will want to refill your bowl with nice, hot popcorn. A bit pricey, but after spending money repeatedly on poor quality poppers, we finally got what we paid for--a good solid machine. Would give it 5 stars, but will need to use it longer for it to 'earn' all five. So far, so good!

This version of the popcorn maker is great - I recommend it. I had to rate it lower than 5 stars because the machine showed up with a crack in the side wall. I kept the machine, not wanting to be without and the crack does not effect the mechanics.

Waring Pro WPM30 Professional Kettle-Style Popcorn Maker Review

(More customer reviews)The machine is good and makes excellent, theater-style popcorn...the kind you can't stop eating no matter how you try!
The unit is small enough to fit comfortably on a counter or tabletop. The internal kettle, lower tray, and "unpopped kernel drawer" all remove for easy cleaning, and I find that rinsing with hot water is enough to give them a quick clean.
My only complaint is that the kettle is a bit on the small side. As such, when the corn starts popping, the kettle fills with popped corn very quickly and starts spilling out both sides into the lower chamber, and takes a lot of the unpopped kernels with it. I bought a box of the 6 oz. pre-packaged oil/popcorn kits, and these clearly have too much corn for this machine. Next time, I will buy the 4 oz kits.
Overall, great product!
