(More customer reviews)Though visually appealing, it is the worst engineering design ever -- there is no chute for the popcorn to be guided into a bowl. I agree with other writers -- popcorn and hot kernels everywhere, which pop wherever they land and have a bland taste. TONS of unpopped kernels in the bottom of the bowl, with a burned scorch to them. The Rival seems to be a truly dangerous design, and it's hard to believe they haven't voluntarily or involuntarily recalled it. Over the years, I have had much better experience with Presto and want to return to Presto, even though it is a less visually appealing design -- OK if you like 70s retro, though!

The problem lies with the two plastic gears that turn the sweeper.Heat melted the way the gears are attached to the metal rods.I fixed mine with"Liquid Nails" but after further use the gears became brittle and cracked and I gave up. (More customer reviews)I only gave it one star because there isn't a category with negative numbers. This popcorn popper is the worst I have ever had. Like someone else mentioned I used it 3 times and threw it away. I thought I was doing something wrong when UNPOPPED kernels started flying all over my kitchen. They explode into the bowl causing the small amount of popped corn to fly as well. But I was not doing anything wrong the product is just bad. Please save your money. I bought mine at Target as well under the name Toastmaster but it seems to have other names as well. BEWARE. I almost got hit in the eye with flying kernels.

I chose the less expensive one first but the plastic gear between turn handle and internal rotary paddle got stripped. Heat and plastic are not a compatible combination. The Back to Basics version has a metal gear, making this popper well worth the few extra dollars.

(More customer reviews)I opted for this aluminum popper instead of the stainless steel. Lesson learned. It does pop almost all of the corn. It's kind of fun to use. Guests and kids think it's cool. The popcorn it makes sure does taste good. Fits in the dishwasher.
The lid fits properly for about the first week, then never again. Occasionally I have to fiddle with the gears to get it going again. The thin aluminum pan has become warped and no longer heats evenly.
You get what you pay for.

Bella Cucina 13469 Popcorn Maker Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this popcorn maker recently from a neighborhood store for half the price it sells here. I love popcorn and wanted a healthy method for producing it. Years ago I owned another machine by a different manufacturer that also made "air popped" corn. I got rid of that one because it left one quarter of the kernels "unpopped". This machine by Bella Cucina is even worse. It leaves "one half" of the kernels unpopped! I followed all of the instructions in the manual, pushed the on button and within about 60 seconds the popping begins and goes along pretty fast. At the end of the process the bowl did not seem to be filled that much and it turned out that the bottom of the bowl was covered with unpopped kernels. Too expensive to make popcorn this way and the item is useless to me. I do NOT recommend it. I'm only glad I did not pay full price.

(More customer reviews)This is a very poorly made, cheap popcorn popper. I should have been suspicious when the manufacturer's product description on the item page describes a meat grinder ("This meat grinder lets you create fresh, top-quality meats and spreads in minutes.") Someone messed up on that one! A flimsy plastic housing gets extremely HOT HOT HOT and is almost too hot to touch after the popcorn is finished popping. Just turning the switch to "off" was hazardous because you have to be careful not to touch the body of the popper while doing so. And talk about LOUD - sounds like someone is using a leaf blower in your kitchen! It only takes 1/4 cup of kernels at a time, which does NOT make very much popcorn. Then you're advised to wait 15 minutes before popping another batch. I bought this hoping that it would be similar to the Presto popper, only with the highly coveted "on/off" switch everyone wishes the Presto had. Big mistake! This is more expensive than the Presto, but it is NOT worth it. Save your money & buy a microwave popper. I had a microwave popper (Nordic Ware) for over 10 years and just recently wanted a replacement because it's not performing as good as it used to. I'll be getting another Nordic Ware microwave popper since that worked wonders in the past!

(More customer reviews)I received this as a Christmas gift and have used it a couple of times. Mine came in a snazzy red, not pictured here. For the first batch, I followed the directions exactly using the maximum quantity of kernels and was rewarded with a house that smelled like a movie theater lobby and about a cubic foot of popcorn. The instructions say to turn it off after the last kernel pops. Usually, I can't tell which pop will be the last and err on the side of burnt. I left it running a bit longer than the last pop and it came out just fine. For the next batch, I used less oil and added stuff through the steam-holes in the bucket (ancho chile powder and a little truffle oil) during popping. Que Rico!
The stirring rod comes off for cleaning, and the bottom surface is non-stick. My only complaint is that the bucket is not dishwasher-safe. Also, I have a small kitchen, so I like that it has a small footprint.
Overall, I'm impressed with this little machine.

(More customer reviews)I love this popper. I was looking for a way to make homemade kettle corn & this is it. It is so easy to use. My 12 yr old makes popcorn by himself and my younger kids love to crank the handle. For kettle corn I use 1/2 cup Orville popcorn, 1/4 c white sugar(brown makes caramel corn) and a little oil, sprinkle with salt before serving. Dump all together and put on burner. 5 mins later you have delicious kettle corn. I highly recommend this if you are tired of microwave and really want delicious homemade popcorn. A little FYI we have tried the popcorn kit it comes with, while it is good(a wee bit salty in spots) it's really not all that necessary. You get delicious popcorn using Orville's and a little butter drizzled on.

Since the lid does not fit tightly, popping takes longer but everything is buttered and ready to eat as soon as it is done. I turn the buttering cup backward and screw everything back together to wash in the dishwasher.

The only complaint I have is that it is almost impossible to clean the inside of the clear plastic sides near the top due to the sharp metal pot supports that get in the way. Would be nice if the top were removable. Makes great popcorn. I use two tbsp of canola oil, half cup of yellow popcorn, and half- to full tsp popcorn salt depending on taste. Pour the oil into the preheated pot, add salt, then popcorn. Pops very quickly.
