(More customer reviews)I have a girlfriend but when I'm in the kitchen, Calphalon is my paramour.
Which is why this masher saddens me. The other reviewers have it right, smooth design, sturdy construction, gets into tight spaces, and a strong tactile response. But those are things I look for in a hammer, not a potato masher.
The mashing end is HIGHLY inefficient: holes are too small, plastic supersedes the space available for pressing food through. And so much is stuck in those holes and on the underside of the masher once you're through. A plain wire masher won't scratch your nonstick pans (assuming you're acquainted with finesse), isn't a tenth as wasteful, and is MUCH more efficient.
Bottom Line:
I strongly suggest getting something else to fulfill your mashing needs.

The design is quite ingenious. The cutting blade is flexible enough to "hug" the pit and cut the fruit away. I would highly recommend.

Oxo Good Grips Meat Pounder Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a pounder to help flatten chicken breasts (the have a habit of being really thin in one place and really thick in another). After a fruitless search in various cooking stores, I found this. I chose this one over the plain pounder just in case I would want a tenderizer. Boy am I glad I did.
With very little wrist movement, the tenderizer's weight flattens and tenderizes chicken with almost no effort (try that with one of those lightweight wooden ones).
The large flat section takes just a little more effort (still very little) to make your cuts thin and even.
Definitely one of the best things I have bought for my kitchen in a long time. I highly recommend it.

OXO Good Grips Pepper Grinder Review

(More customer reviews)First, THIS IS A PERFECT PEPPER GRINDER. It has the easiest loading area I have ever seen. It has coarse to fine settings which always come out uniform. It is pretty affordable and it looks good.
Second, when I tried out a slew of pepper grinders, it came down to two major and three minor qualities.
Major:
1. The pepper grinder MUST have adjustable settings, from coarse to fine, and the pepper must come out uniformly. If a pepper grinder can't do this, it does not matter how cheap it is or how cool it looks.
2. The pepper grinder MUST be easy to refill. This is almost as important as #1, and just about as much of a deal-breaker if its poorly designed. Some of the grinders have the most asinine, tiny, and poorly designed holes you could ever imagine.
Minor:
1. It should be affordable. Anything less than $10 and more than $30 should be looked at closely. Under 10 and it just can't possibly be that good, and over 30 means its most likely overpriced. These aren't hard and fast rules, but something to consider.
2. It should be elegant or stylish. I've always preferred something in the silver/black area that tends to go with a variety of kitchen or home decors and just look nice on the table.
3. It is helpful if it faces upward, to keep grinds off the table. This is pretty common nowadays and isn't as hard to find as used to be the case.
