The Snapper 29" is about the same size machine as my 1999 Noma 10hp 27" but touts 14.5 torque as opposed to hp. I bought it for the remote chute controls and hopefully added power. Upon first inspection I'd say the chute up and down motor is an afterthought. The wiring is amateur and the drive gear/motor is an exposed plastic screw drive. I'm going to have to rig a cover and wire guard. The chute rotate is well assembled and protected. The machines locking handles are a 1/3 shorter than my Noma thus indicating more grip fatigue to keep them down. The intake height of the Snapper is only 19.5 inches, a little short. The machine started right up and after the first snow I'll report back on how well it worked.

Snow Joe SJ621 18-Inch 13.5-Amp Electric Snow Thrower With Headlight Review

Snow Joe SJ621 18-Inch 13.5-Amp Electric Snow Thrower With Headlight
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought the model SJ621 a few weeks back at a big box club store as Amazon wasn't carrying the Snow Joe with a headlight.
First used this little fellow a couple days after receiving it on about 6" of wet, early season snow.
The Snow Joe did OK in clearing our driveway. It is a little small (18" width), which means you'll have to make more passes, and since it's electric, you might have to "double-pump" a bit, as in make a pass then make another one immediately afterwards.
Our snow was pretty wet, especially close to the driveway, so Little Snow Joe only threw it 10' at most, but using my head I was able to clear our 60x80' driveway in just under an hour. I'd imagine it will do better with drier snow.
Of course I had to go around after the Snow Joe with a shovel to clean up, but that's to be expected.
I wouldn't try wet snow any deeper than 6"...this morning I could tell this little guy was straining...this means any larger storms and you'll have to keep ahead of the snow in order to not overwhelm the Snow Joe.
I took the advice on the instructions and put some WD-40 on the pivot points of the chute and lever and it was easy to turn and aim.
Didn't need the light the first time I used it 'cuz it was daytime, but after use I noticed it was covered in snow, so I'm guessing when I do use the light I'll have to keep brushing it off.
I used a 12GA 100' extension cord and this seemed to work fine.
All in all, much easier than shoveling by hand, and at this price, a very good deal.
UPDATE 12/20:
Well, this little guy just took care of another 5" of wet snow. In addition, the headlight came in very handy tonight as it helped me see where the extension cord was...even with a bright yellow cord, it's hard to see it when it's snowing hard and dark. Still very happy with the purchase. I may make a video of the little fella in use during the next storm.

Built to handle big driveways and deep snowfalls, the Snow Joe Ultra SJ621 can move 650 pounds of snow per minute. It cuts a swath 18 inches wide and 10 inches deep with each pass, and a scraper blade efficiently scrapes the snow clear to the pavement--all without significant strain on your body. And because this snow thrower is powered by electricity instead of gas, it is incredibly easy to start and maintain.
Handles Big Driveways and Heavy SnowfallsBehind the Snow Joe Ultra SJ621's dependable performance is a powerful 13-1/2 amp motor, which allows it to move up to 650 pounds of snow per minute. Built to help you clear walkways, patios, and driveways quickly and without straining your back, the SJ621 utilizes a heavy-grade steel, four-blade rotor, and can throw snow up to 20 feet. You don't have to worry about moving the same snow twice, even when clearing the middle of your driveway.
With each pass, the SJ621 cuts a path that's a full 18 inches wide and 10 inches deep, and the snow thrower's scraper is designed to clear all the snow down to the pavement. This translates to an impressive 2,450 square feet of potential snow removal per hour.
Because winter days are short, the SJ621 also features a bright, 20-watt halogen light to make early-morning or late-night clearing operations a little more convenient and safer.
Smart Details Keep You in ControlWith an adjustable discharge chute, which rotates a complete 180 degrees, and a chute deflector that can be adjusted to control the height of the snow stream produced by the thrower, you have complete control over where the snow you move ends up.
And the body of the SJ621 is easy to maneuver and control. Compact, easy-glide, pivot wheels make it easy to turn the snow thrower at the end of each pass, while the thrower's ergonomic grips make it easy and comfortable to direct. In addition to making handling easier, the thrower's compact shape also makes storing the unit more convenient in between winter storms.
Electric Engine is Easy to Start and MaintainThe SJ621's corded electric design means that you never have to worry about dead batteries, running out of gas, or making the right gas-oil mix. And its electric engine doesn't require the costly regular maintenance of a combustion engine.
In addition, with push-button Instant Start technology, you can trust that this snow thrower will be ready to work whenever you are--no frustrating, arm-wrenching pull starts required.
The dependable Snow Joe Ultra SJ621 is ETL inspected and approved, and is backed by a full two-year warranty.

Snow Joe SJ620 18-Inch 13.5-Amp Electric Snow Thrower Review

Snow Joe SJ620 18-Inch 13.5-Amp Electric Snow Thrower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just bought the model SJ621 (Same as the SJ620 except it has a halogen light at the front) at a big box club store. I wanted the unit with the light and Amazon doesn't seem to carry the SJ621, so I'll review the mechanicals of the SJ621 which are identical to the SJ620.
First used this little fellow earlier this week, and wouldn't you know it, we had our first snowfall last night...about 6" of wet, early season snow.
Note: see the 2/3/2011 update below for how this unit handled 20.2" of snow which was Chicago's third largest snowfall in recorded history...
I took the advice on the instructions and put some WD-40 on the pivot points of the chute and lever and it was easy to turn and aim.
Didn't need the light (again, only on the SJ621) 'cuz it's daytime, but after use I noticed it was covered in snow, so I'm guessing when I do use the light I'll have to keep brushing it off.
Update: 2/3/2011: Well, I'll be darned...we just had 20 inches of snow, and the little Snow Joe handled it all, including a 4 foot drift across our driveway. Granted it didn't chomp the snow like a big gas blower, but I was able to completely clear our 30x60' driveway with the SJ621. To tackle the big drifts and areas taller than the SJ621 I had to "undercut" them by hitting them sideways, creating an overhanging corniche of snow, then this overhang would either fall on its own, or I would have to knock it down with a shovel, then I'd snow blow the fallen snow...
I ran it almost nonstop for three hours and it took everything I could throw at it.
I have to be honest...when I first wrote this review back in November 2010 I had no expectations that this little guy could handle anything more than a 6" storm, but I was wrong.
On a bad note, after finishing everything, I was using the Snow Joe to clean up some wind blown snow and it just stopped working. Suspecting a motor or impeller problem since I had just put the mechanicals through a big test, I unplugged it and looked around...nothing...so I plugged it back in...again nothing...so I pulled the plug out and saw that one of the two prongs on the Snow Joe's electrical connection had broken off into my extension cord...really odd since I had used the cord strain relief throughout the morning's snow blowing marathon and as far as I know never put any twisting torque or sideways stress on it...I have never seen this happen with any other electrical device...sent an email to Snow Joe to see about getting a replacement part, and unfortunately, after two days all I've gotten is a form reply....makes me feel a little less than confident that they're going to help me out. I will post back once things are either resolved or not.
Update 2/5/11: Spoke with Snow Joe on the phone today and they are sending me the parts and instructions to fix my unit. I expect to get these next week, and once installed, bring on the snow (again)!
Final update: 2/11/11: Snow Joe sent me repair parts, but they were for the 622 and not the 621. Looked almost identical. After an hour of getting the wiring fixed, realized the handle is not quite the right size...so I drill out my 621 and then the bolts fit. So I tighten everything and try the unit...nothing happens. Check all connections, still nothing. So I take the control box apart and realize the blade lugs on the new switch are slightly smaller than the old one, so the connection is intermittent. Toyed with the idea of soldering on new female blade connections, then thought: "Why am I going through all this - just get a new unit". Call Snow Joe and they say they won't have new units until next year, but might have refurbs in a couple weeks. They suggest I contact the Big Box retailer where I bought the unit. OK, did that, and will be getting a refund and now have to order a different unit.
After working so well, it's frustrating to have such a simple thing (the electrical connection to the unit) be its downfall. Reduced rating to 3 stars...could have been much better.

DuroStar SD1300 Snow Demon 16-Inch 9.7 Amp Electric Snow Thrower Review

DuroStar SD1300 Snow Demon 16-Inch 9.7 Amp Electric Snow Thrower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had the opportunity of using this electric snow blower/thrower last season when it came on the market. I'm surprised this is the first review. I have a short driveway, approximately 16' deep and 1-1/2 car widths wide. As this is not my primary residence, I was not there when the snow fell so I was unable to clear freshly fallen snow. The snow that I had to clear was 8-10" taller than the Snow Demon and was a combination of slush (on the driveway at the bottom) and then packed snow, a layer of ice (where the snow had melted and re-frozen)more packed snow and one more layer of ice on the top. I had never used a snow blower in my life and did not know what to expect. I got out my extension cord, plugged it in (there's a place to clip the cord so it does not pull out or fall, hit the safety button and pulled the handle to crank it up. It worked remarkable well from the gate. It is very quiet, very smooth (does not jump or hop around)and clears about 16" wide at a time. It shot the loose, slushy snow fifteen to twenty feet plus, as it was throwing it downhill. When the adjustable, directional shoot is facing forward, the snow is thrown a little further than when it is off to either side. The snow is easily thrown 12-15' when it is thrown 90 degrees to either side. The blades are a tough, flexible rubber that clears down to the ground. It almost squeegees the ground. The blades picked up small rocks, pine cones, pine needles and other debris. It is not made for that but tossed this dirty snow out of my way. The blades would occasionally get wedged with some of this debris, but letting go of the dead mans throttle would instantly turn the motor off. It was then a simple matter of clearing the blades and I was back in business. It comes with a short dowel for clearing, but I never used it. The only problem I encountered was with the type of snow that I was disposing of. Since I had a layer of ice in the middle, I had to "bang" the Snow Demon against the bank to chip away at the pile. This worked exceptionally well, although it took longer than if it was all slush, all powder, or all freshly fallen snow. I suspect that if it was ice free snow, the job would have taken my far less time than it did. I worked close to an hour clearing my driveway. This is how long it would have taken me to just dig a walkway from the street to the door with a shovel. The Snow Demon held up well. Nothing cracked, broke, chipped or came loose. There was virtually no wear on the rubber blades, so I believe that they will last for years. For the price (especially), design, functionality, looks and ease of use, you can not go wrong with this item. The handle and directional shoot are easily detachable for storage in it's original box. We live in the Midwest, and I grew tired of our snow blower that would never start. I purchased this wonderful snow thrower, and I couldn't be happier! So easy to assemble, so easy to start, just plug it in. The box mentions it is good for small spaces, but I just did our triple width driveway and my mom's double-width, double-length driveway, and couldn't be more pleased! It is quiet, throws the snow wonderfully, scrapes down to the bottom, and the cord, well, just think of the sensation of vacuuming the snow. I put the cord over my should like vacuuming and it worked like a charm. I purchased a Coleman 100-foot extention cord that was bright yellow, and that made it easier to visualize in the snow and allowed me to go to the end of the driveways with ease. Tangles? No, again remember, it feels like vacuuming the snow--a cord attached to your appliance. Can't say enough good things about this wonderful, LIGHTWEIGHT, product. NO COMPLAINTS, NO PROBLEMS, NO HESITATION IN RECOMMENDING THIS WONDERFUL, DEPENDABLE HELPER.

Snow Joe Ultra 622U1 19-Inch 13-Amp Electric Snow Thrower Review

Snow Joe Ultra 622U1 19-Inch 13-Amp Electric Snow Thrower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been an owner of three different gas snowblowers. Each worked in its own way, from the MTD two-stage to my personal favorite, the Craftsman one-stage.
Many people see one-stage snow throwers as junk, and I'll agree they have their limitations in heavy or wet snow. But if you get out there right when the snow falls and clear it before it hits ten inches, you'll have a fine time with this little wonder.
It does as good a job at snow removal as my Craftsman single did--the two-stage may be a bit more versatile but it's like handling a rototiller and you have to have a place to store it. This baby hangs on a pair of wall hooks in the garage, with the cord hanging next to it.
I was amazed at how well this little "off brand" thrower does its work. I got it to test the proposition that 99% of snow removal can be done with a little tool like this. But it bore me out last year. Neighbor has an Ariens that cost him almost $1400. When he saw my little blower he offered to clear my driveway for me.
After clearing my (two-car with turnout space) driveway and hanging up the machine and cord back in the garage, I looked next door. He was still trying to get the beast started.
UPDATE MARCH 2010:
Well, I had almost three seasons with Snow Joe, but he couldn't handle the double whammy snowstorms of February--gave up the ghost. So I bought the Toro version of the same thing. It handles very similarly to the Snow Joe, but the impeller and chute design is better. I wish the chute crank were easier to reach (liked that about the SJ) but the Toro gets more snow faster than the SJ.
I was very close to buying one of Toro's gas Power Curve models, but went with another electric. When the second snowstorm hit, this Toro went through it like butter. I made sure to get out there and clear the first batch before it hit ten inches. Second batch was actually deeper at probably about ten inches, and it was just as easy. The Toro took full-width bites out of the first pass. The deeper pass required me to bump it out 4 inches or so to account for the higher snow volume.
But it chewed through it like a champ. I continue to recommend electric snowblowers to homeowners who don't face a huge amount of snow in the winter and don't have more than a hundred feet between their outlet and the street. My 100-foot cord hits the end just as I get to the street. If my driveway were a foot longer I'd have to go with a longer cord.
But I am switching my recommendation from Snow Joe to Toro. The Toro throws better, stays clearer, is better put together, and is quieter than the Snow Joe, especially under load.
Spend the extra and get the Toro. You won't be sorry.

Absolutely Recommended! Ordered on Thursday and paid the extra cost of $3.XX for next day delivery because we had a huge snow storm in the forecast. The Snowblower and the storm arrived the next day and the snow blower was really needed. It was very easy to unpack--open carton, remove cardboard and plastic bag, extend handle, add oil (came with it) and gas (remember to buy ahead of time). It started the first pull of the crank and worked hard for two days! It used four tanks of gas doing my neighbor's driveway and mine plus helping many other neighbors dig out from over 34 inches of snow and the build up caused by the snow plows that came through. It's only rated for 4-6 inches but by knocking down the snow with a shovel and working at it with the blower we got thru a build-up of snow that exceede 3 feet in spots (over the top of the engine on the snowblower). Really glad we ordered.
It came on time and worked perfectly--did not have to shovel and lift!

Toro 38361 Power Shovel 7.5 Amp Electric Snow Thrower Review

Toro 38361 Power Shovel 7.5 Amp Electric Snow Thrower
Average Reviews:

If you go to Target, Home Depot or any of the other big chains that sell the Toro Electric Shovel you will probably find the same thing that I did...that it is SOLD OUT. Why? Because this is one of the most helpful tools to have ever been placed on the market.
It works fairly well on small driveways; don't forget to pick up a nice long outdoor-use electric extension cord. And use this only on paved surfaces...no loose gravel!
But the real benefit of this tool comes with walkways and DECKS.
If you've got a large driveway, pass on this and go for something with a little more power. If you've got a decent size walkway, you'll love this. It clears the snow with ease and it will last forever; my father-in-law has had his since the early 90s.
If you have a deck with a railing, and your deck isn't covered so it builds up with snow, the Toro Electric Shovel will become your best winter friend. The snow is propelled a good 25 feet and easily clears deck railings. Just don't shoot the snow into the wind (duh). No more throwing out your back from lifting heavy snow over railings with this baby.
No matter where you use this...a word of advice: Try not to let the snow get deeper than about 6". Yes, that means you might have to go out a couple of times. But c'mon...it's fun! The Toro still works in deep snow, but it really isn't designed for it. Any deeper than about 6" and you'll need to "shave the top of the snow accumulation," and you might as well not have the electric shovel for the effort that takes.
Happy snow season!

Clear steps, walkways, decks, and small driveways quickly and efficiently with the Toro Power Shovel Electric Snow Thrower. Compact and ultra-lightweight, yet powerful enough to toss snow a distance of 20 feet, this machine is easy to operate and maintain. And with no gas or oil to burn through, it's a practical, eco-friendly choice.
Fast, Effective Snow Removal with the Power Curve System Avoid sore backs caused by shoveling and time wasted taking care of huge, complicated snow blowers. This compact electric shovel employs a streamlined auger drive system, which uses a single rotor with two curved blades to quickly and effectively move snow out of your way.
With a snow-throwing capacity of 300 pounds per minute, you can clear four inches of snow off a 50-by-20-foot driveway in just 20 minutes. With a clearing width of 12 inches and a snow cut depth of six inches per pass, this Power Shovel will let you clean off walkways with a couple quick passes. And weighing in at just 13 pounds, this snow thrower can be lifted, turned, and twisted with ease.
Compact and Easy to Maintain with Electric Power With no gas or oil to burn through, no spark plugs to change, and no time-consuming tune-ups, this electric snow thrower is a cost-effective, eco-friendly option. Its ultra-compact size makes it easier to maneuver than big, gas-powered units, and it's easier to store, too. Exceptional ease of handling makes the small, versatile Toro Power Shovel ideal for spaces like balconies, decks, and staircases.
When you do want to clear a larger area, you'll appreciate the surprisingly powerful nature of this lightweight machine. It features a series-wound 7.5 Amp motor, which is designed to produce high torque at lower speeds, making it a perfect choice for snow-throwing.
The cord lock system eliminates one of the potential downfalls of using electric products by ensuring your extension cord is reliably locked in place. And with electric power, this snow thrower is easy to start up, even on the coldest days, so you'll never have to worry about the frustration of dealing with a pull cord.
Adjustable, Ergonomic Features to Keep You Comfortable A telescoping handle lets you adjust this snow thrower to fit your height. The height and angle of the operating handle are adjustable too, so you can truly customize the way this tool fits in your hands.
This snow thrower is backed by a full two-year warranty.

New belt - $12,
New paddles - $19+shipping,
Able to launch the neighbor's frozen dog poop onto his roof - Priceless!
Now I'm waiting for the Spring thaw.
The paddles arrive quickly. Parts appear to be a correct fit, but I had to drill out 2 rivets and replace them with bolts as another reviewer mentioned. There was a bit of drag when turning the auger by hand after replacement. (I suspect that my auger is a bit warped.) So I had to trim a little rubber off the high spots. Now my snow blower works like new again.
BTW... Although I badly needed to replace the rubber paddles, the belt must have been also slipping (though the auger continued to rotate without any audible belt squeal) resulting in reduced auger speed. My chute would continually plug up. I picked up an OEM belt at a local hardware store. Replacing the belt made the real difference. No more chute plugging.

This is the third snow blower I have owned, and does a great job in major drifts. But I have now ripped the starter cord three times, and disassembly and reassembly takes me almost an hour to repair it. In spite of several inspections, I can see nothing slicing the cord, but something us doing it. I suspect a metal burr somewhere.
All of that said, it starts dependably (when I haven't broken it), and makes short work of my driveway, even in densely packed snow. After a half season that has been especially rough, it all still seems sturdy and hasn't rattled itself apart, the way cheaper units have done in the past.

I bought this snow thrower about a month ago. The first day I got it, I opened the box and put it together in a snap. Actually, there wasnt much to it, just pull the handle up and lock it into place, put oil and gas in it and start it up. I think I had about 4" of snow on the ground that day. I started it up and went at it. Immediately I was surprised at how much snow it left behind! It was actually going right OVER about an inch of snow, almost like the blade was not touching the ground, but in fact it was. Not only that but when doing a row of snow when you turn around and stat to head back down the row again, it "spits" snow on the freshly cleaned area blowing it back on the area you just did. It does not handle wet snow at all! Trust me, not even slightly wet snow. And it is not light either, when pushing this thing through some heavy snow, it gets to be a real task after a while. This is a snow thrower for someone looking to use it on 3" or less of non wet snow. On the plus side, it runs good and starts right up on the second pull. Just like a new snow thrower should.... I guess....
I would spend a little more money and get a more heavy duty unit. You will thank me later !!

This belt is generic 0.5"X35" V-belt, which you can easily buy equivalent belt at ACE hardware. The problem is that the generic belt does not work for MTD single stage snow thrower. Single stage thrower uses the belt as a slip clutch & auger brake. Original MTD belt has more fabric than rubber at the friction surface to aid slippage when the auger drive bail is not pulled. But generic V-belt has more rubber because usually V-belt is not for slippage.
So, after a short uses (in my cases, about 4 hours), the belt wears quickly at one spot when the auger drive bail is not pulled.
Another problem is that the auger does not stop effectively. Because the friction at the engine pulley is so great, the belt keeps rolling even when the auger drive tension is released and brake is engaged. This is a safety issue.
In conclusion, don't buy this belt for MTD(Troy-Bilt, etc.)single stage snow thrower. I will check Lowe's if they sell the genuine MTD belt for less than MTD parts online.

I just cleared 14" of snow off my driveway and used nothing but this machine. It is fabulous. I know the manual says it can handle up to 6" of snow but believe me this thing handled this last snowstorm without any trouble. Granted I only took 1/2 swaths but still it handled it beautifully. It even handled the stuff that got plowed into the end of my driveway from the road. This Snowfox really does shoot the snow at least 25 feet except when you have the chute turned left or right, then it shoots about 5-8' tops.
I would highly recommend this machine for anyone.
