Steaming - Frothing Pitcher 33oz. Review

That's what I am talking about. I fill this with milk to just below the inside of the spout, stick the starbucks thermometer on the lip(the one that has a plastic coated top that is color coded for the temperature) and steam the milk. You can see the swirling action as the foam rises to the top of the pitcher with beautiful micro bubbles. I use this every day. It is perfect!

Gaggia 9001 Base Cafe, Black Review

At first thought would feel cheap since plastic vs other stainless brands. But looked good with the gaggia classic and the grinder. If you have the grinder, get this base to put it in. Only draw back is you need to empty the knockbox every 2 days or so, otherwise mold grows on the pucks...

Hot Chili Pepper Fiesta Accent Jellybean Rug Review

High quality rug perfect as an indoor welcome mat for my apartment. Tne colors are brilliant and the image of the chili peppers is "spicy", fun and happy. I placed a rubber mat under it to keep it from sliding. It is comfortable to walk on. I especially purchaced a Jellybean Rug because they are washable, as welcome mats get soiled over time. I haven't washed it yet but am glad I can do so when it needs it. I also like the fact that it is made of 35% recycled plastic.

Gaggia 8002 MDF Burr Grinder with Doser, PARENT Review

Real espresso is a combination of freshly roasted beans properly ground and pressed at high pressure using 200 degree water. When you do that, you produce something so delicious it'll blow your mind if you love coffee. When purchasing equipment to do this at home, the most crucial of these three factors is in many ways the grinder. You need to be producing a very exact, very fine grind that doesn't include larger chunks (it'll mess up the pressure, because water will "channel" here) nor coffee dust (which will end up in your cup). And you kinda' want a grinder that won't break.
There are surprisingly few grinders sold that meet these requirements. Some espresso drinkers try to get by with one of the only two grinders under $150 which can sometimes manage this: the Solis Maestro and the Capresso Infinity. Whether you succeed will depend a lot on whether you got lucky, and you got one that happens to be put together well. Both make use of plastic parts which will fail over time. Some people buy the Solis Maestro Plus for $150 -- it's heavier than the Maestro, but otherwise no better: you're really wasting your money. The next step up is the Gaggia MDF. It usually sells for around $200, and the Amazon price tends to fluctuate, actually coming in under $200 some of the time with promotions, which makes it a wonderful bargain, though that may be hard to fathom for folks used to a $20 whirly blade grinder. The MDF used semi-commercial grade steel burrs in a semi-commercial (and hence longer lasting) burr set. It will produce the even, fine grind necessary for espresso, and when paired with another Gaggia, or a Solis or Rancilio or FrancisFrancis machine, you're ready to be a home barista and blow the minds of your friends. If you've got a bit more money, I'd recommend the Rancilio Rocky, which typically sells for $280: it's quieter and more rugged, but uses the identical burrs to the MDF. Up from there would be the Mazzer Mini for around $360, which should last you 20 years if not a lifetime. Most people who get into home espresso eventually end up with a Mazzer someday, and you could save yourself some time and money by just starting out with one. But the MDF is probably the best bargain going for being a true home barista. If you're terribly on a budget, Vaneli's Maximo is inferior but useable, and sometimes sells here for low prices.

With 34 grind settings, this home grinder provides exceptional results for anything from espresso to drip to French press. The unit's commercial-strength 120-watt motor, in combination with its gear-reduction system, provides exceptional torque, extremely quite operation, and reduced static build-up, while its 50-mm tempered-steel grinding burrs deliver precision-ground beans, quickly and efficiently. With each pull of the plastic lever, the grinder's convenient doser dispenses 1/4-ounce of coffee from the ground-coffee container directly into the filter holder. Pull the lever once for one cup of espresso, or twice for two cups. Constructed of impact-resistant smoked plastic, the ground-coffee container for the dosing section has an 8-ounce capacity, and the large 10-ounce bean hopper is made with a sealed top to ensure bean freshness. The burr grinder measures 20 by 14 by 14 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

Factory-Reconditioned Breville XXESP8XL Café Roma Espresso Maker Review

I purchased this machine in July of 2008. The reason I decided to write a review at this time is because I am considering purchasing another one for my parent's 60th Anniversary and noticed all of the negative reviews.
I lived in Spain for three years in the late 70s and learned to enjoy espresso drinks while I was there. When I returned to the USA I purchased a very inexpensive machine which I used off and on over the years. I say off and on because it did not produce very good espresso and I would exile to the basement. Every few years however I would haul it back up expecting, I guess, that it had learned it's lesson while it was in 'time out'! I eventually decided to spend a little more money and try a better machine. I found the refurbished Breville Cafe Roma at Amazon for $95 with free shipping (even at $149 it is a steal.) I had a little trouble at first because it operated differently than my old one, but all I had to do was send an email with my question to Breville customer service and they would call me back and walk me though any difficulty I was having. In the intervening months I have become quite expert in the nuances of this machine. During the winter I make a latte with mounds of foam so tight you'd think it was whipped cream. In the hot summer months I make two-oz. of espresso and put it in the freezer overnight. THe next morning I put it in the blender with 6 oz. of skim milk and 1 tsp of vanilla sugar and hit the 'frozen drink' button. I get a smooth, frothy cold mocha drink that feels and tastes totally decadent - but isn't. I can't start my day without one of these treats and they are both far superior to anything I have bought at several different upscale coffee houses.
As to the cups and frothing pitcher: my sister bought a new Breville Cafe Roma which did come with the additional items and she never uses them. The pitcher is too small (10-oz.) if you like lots of foam. I purchased a very nice Rattleware 20-oz. pitcher from Amazon and it is the perfect size. Neither my sister nor I drink espresso straight, but if I did I would not want stainless steel cups because they put my teeth on edge (no I don't bite them.) I much prefer glass or ceramic which can be purchased in beautiful colors and designs.
Bottom line: if you want good espresso and are either short on funds or filthy rich but don't need a high-end machine sitting on your counter to impress your friends and relatives, get a Breville Cafe Roma and be patient while you are learning how to become an expert barista in your own home - then impress your friends and relatives with the delights you make with this machine.

Bodum Pavina 2.5-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Glasses (Espresso/Shot), Set of 2 Review

I loved the previous version of this glass, which was completely hermetically sealed. The new version has a small hole in the bottom, covered in a silicone(?)-like rubbery compound. On one of my two new glasses, this compound came off in the dishwasher, which means that water gets in between the two walls and is impossible to dry... sort of like double-paned windows where humidity gets in between the layers of glass. So it's ugly and foggy, rather than clear and pristine.
Wish they had left well enough alone!

The Bodum Pavina Double Wall Shot Glass is 2.5 ounces in size and can be used for cold or warm beverages. Its unique design is appealing to the eye when filled with your favorite beverage. With its double layer of borosilicate glass it appears as though the liquid is 'floating' within the glass. They will not sweat when filled with a cold beverage, so you will not have to use a coaster. The double wall creates a thermal effect, helping to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot for longer periods of time. These mouth blown glasses are an exciting product for any home, restaurant, or cafe and they are a definite conversation piece.Bodum’s insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass traditionally used to make scientific lab glass.Stronger than traditional "soda-lime” glass, borosilicate can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware.Borosilicate glass substitutes boron oxide in place of the soda and lime used in everyday glassware. The boron oxide acts as the glue holding the silicate together.Due to small size of boron particles, the glass is held together tighter, resulting in a stronger, lighter glass.Borosilicate glass doesn’t need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong due to the bonding capability boron oxide.Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching.Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is resistant to temperature swings,In addition to being dishwasher safe borosilicate will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 1,000 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it.

Saeco 21103 Royal Professional Fully Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver and Blue Review

Unlike the review below we've been lucky in that we've had no problems with our unit.
It's been exactly 3 years since we purchased our machine and we haven't looked back. The machine was bought as we were spending $40-50 a week at Starbucks. Now we use organic milk and beans and make our own latte's at home.
The machine is super easy to use. There are various settings for the grinding and dose of coffee. I just set the dose on max and change the grind depending on what beans I use. The machine gives you 3 sizes of coffee depending on what you want. The steam wand works well but can only be used after coffee dispensing is finished. It takes 15-25sec for the steam wand to really start.. steaming. The cappuchinore on my machine doesn't work but I only tried to use it after we had the machine for 2 years so I'm not bothered too much. I also have the direct water connection to my reverse osmosis system. So I haven't had to de-scale yet and might never need to.
Another useful item is the rinsing cycle where the machine runs hot water through itself for 10mins. At the end you get to see how much "dirt" was cleaned out. Quite satisfying :)
The machine also has some idiot proof features. One is when you put in pre-ground coffee but then press the coffee button instead of the pre-ground button first. The machine makes some funky noises but then dumps everything out. I'm not proud to say I've done this more than once....
Overall through it's the best $$$ I've ever spent and would highly recommend this machine. It might not be the cheapest (or most expensive!) but you get what you pay for!
p.s. the coffee is amazing!!!!!!!!!
