Frigidaire GLTF2940FS 14 Cycle Front Load Washera Review

I had a very cheap washer that lasted for 5 years. When it broke down, rather than considering spending $50 just to have someone look at it, I decided to buy a new one.
I wanted a front-loading washer because they are gentler on clothes and use less water. However, after looking at some, I realized they were mostly pretty expensive.
I did a lot of research and Consumer Reports rated this washer as the best I could hope to get for the price. Finally after much shopping, I found a white one online and ordered it. I installed it myself in about 10 minutes and started washing.
We've now owned it for 4 or 5 months and I love it. It is very easy to run, very stable and operates flawlessly. I have washed all sorts of things in it and have never had a single problem. We have this in our kitchen-area right off the living room and, while it is a little bit noisy, it is much quieter than the other standard machine I had.
The one thing I've been a little trepidatious about is the detergent drawer which feels sort of cheaply made and ill-fitting. However, I've been careful with it and have learned how to use it and it really isn't that bad. Don't let that sway you from purchasing this machine. I really think you can't get anything better for your money. Even machines that cost over 2x didn't have the performance rating this one had.

our LG steam washer is 7 months old and we have a bad musty mildew odor coming from the machine. It took me a while to realize this smell was from the washer but I found that the front door seal holds about a 1/2 cup of water after the cycle and that water stagnates and turns into black goo that smells really bad. In our old house we had kenmore HE3 machine and never had that problem and they did just as good a job or better. I feel the LG has a design flaw and for being top rated and costing $$$$ that this is unaceptable. I would not buy this machine again.

I conducted a LOT of research before we decided on this Amana front load washing machine. Our 13 year old Kenmore top loader finally died, and we were in the market for a quality washing machine in the four hundred to eight hundred dollar range or so. 'Consumer Reports' rated this machine highly, as did actual owners/users of it on various other sites, including Home Depot's. Even if the reviews may be 'carefully culled' (as a previous reviewer stated), certainly the excellent user reviews on the 'Consumer Reports' website were not. There were many negative reviews written up for other washers on that site as well. In any case, we were smitten by the price, features, and excellent reviews the Amana garnered, so purchasing this machine was a 'no brainer'. It uses much less electricity and water than a conventional top loader, has an automatic reservoir dispenser for laundry detergent, fabric softener, and bleach, and a second rinse cycle, as well as a 'quick wash' and other longer washes, which is perfect. Our clothes and comforters (full and queen sized) came out smelling great, and best of all, the spin cycle got our clothes the driest i've ever seen in all my years of using commercial and residential washing machines. Consequently, drying time has been cut down substantially. The 'knob issue' that some people bring up is really a 'non issue', since you can re-start the washer by re-pressing the knob if you accidentally bump into it. But truth be told, unless your laundry room is extremely cramped, or you have to reach over and above the washing machine to get something off a shelf, most people will never bump the washer to the off position. Also, the previous reviewer's mention of the washer not turning off is nonsense. Of course the washer turns off when the spin cycle ends. The LED indicators that stay on are just there to remind you that the wash is done, and that you have to open the door and retrieve your laundry. This doesn't mean the machine is actually on. It is not. Another non-issue. All in all, my wife and I are ecstatic and floored by the cleaning ability and sheer value afforded by this phenomenal machine! Amana truly hit a 'home run' with this unit in all respects. If you don't believe me, go read all the online reviews, including 'Consumer Reports'. Buy with confidence.

THE ONLY THING THAT THIS MACHINE DOESN'T DO IS FOLD THE CLOTHES FOR YOU. WELL, THAT AND DRY THEM!! YOU DO HAVE TO BUY A DRYER, BUT I DIGRESS. I HAVE NEVER HAD A FRONT LOADER BEFORE, BUT THIS ONE HAS MY FRIENDS WITH FRONT LOADERS WANTING ONE. I HAD JUST MOVED AND ALL OF MY CLOTHES GOT DIRTY IN THE MOVE. I HAD TO DO ABOUT 15 LOADS OF LAUNDRY AND WAS ABLE TO DO THEM IN ONE DAY. NOT TO SAY THAT THIS MACHINE IS FAST, BECAUSE IN SOME CASES OF HEAVY SOIL IT TAKES ABOUT 1:40 FOR ONE LOAD, BUT IT DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB OF CLEANING THE CLOTHES THOROUGHLY. AND IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR LARGE CAPACITY WITH RELIABILITY LOOK NO FURTHER. THE ONLY THING THAT I WOULD SUGGEST IS SHOP FOR THE BEST PRICE THAT YOU CAN BECAUSE YOU HAVE ALREADY GOT THE HARD PART OUT OF THE WAY, WHICH IS FINDING THE BEST MACHINE.
NOT TO SAY THAT I DIDN'T DO A WHOLE LOT OF RESEARCH TO FIND THIS MACHINE, BECAUSE I DID ABOUT 3 MONTHS OF RESEARCH TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT ONE FOR ALL KINDS OF SITUATIONS: EXTRA CAPACITY, STEAM CAPABILITIES, HAND WASH, WATER EFFICIENT, AND ENERGY EFFICIENT BECAUSE I WAS MOVING INTO AN ALL ELECTRIC RUN HOUSE HOLD. IT PLAYS A QUIRKY LITTLE TUNE AT THE END OF EACH WASH (IF YOU GET IRRITATED BY QUIRKY NOISES YOU CAN TURN OFF THAT OPTION). THE DRYER THAT GOES WITH IT PLAYS THE SAME TUNE, AND HAS THE SAME QUALITY OPTIONS WITH AN ADDED FEATURE: STEAM DE-WRINKLE.

The good: save water and electricity
The bad: serious design defect
We bought this LG washer recently to replace our over-10-year-old washer. We were excited to get this since it looks nice and is energy efficient. It does what it says: use significantly less water and wash clothes clean. However, we found a big problem with the washer. Every time we start the washer, our house water pipes will shake violently for about one minute. The strong vibration occurs on pipes some distance from the water tap and is caused by rapid engaging of the on/off valve of the LG washer as it starts. As we never saw this kind of vibration with our old washer, we contacted LG and a technician came over. It appears that this situation is not unique to us, as the technician had responded to other similar complaints in the area. Furthermore, we were told older houses (>10 year) are more likely to have this kind of air hammering effect. We are concerned that the strong vibration may cause problems in our house water pipes. Not surprisingly, a google search of the problem found that other LG users had complained unknown, repeated leaks in their water pipes, sometimes from behind the wall. Fearful of the leaks in our water pipes, we installed two air hammer arrester and that seems to alleviate the problem. I wish that LG had warned customers of this potentially serious problem.

LG RLM20K RLM20K Remote Laundry Monitoring Kit Review

LG RLM20K RLM20K Remote Laundry Monitoring Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
LG makes some innovative products. This monitor works with their SteamWasher and SteamDryer among others. It conveniently shows the remaining time for the wash/dry cycle.
Installation is a breeze: remove two screws for each unit, plug in MODEM(s), re-install screws, turn on units and sync the monitor. The only tricky part is gaining access to the back for installation.
The monitor comes complete with two MODEMs, wall-mount plate and table stand, and laundry monitor. Nothing else is needed. It even includes the wall-mount plate screws.
The display is well illuminated. The washer cycle is in blue while the dryer cycle is in red. The remaining time is in large green digits, easily readable across a 15 foot room. The case has a simple but nice look. If there's anything to complain about, it's the power cord coming out the bottom center of the unit. Then again, there's probably no place to otherwise conceal it. The retail price is a little high.
The monitor automatically turns on when it detects a wash or dry cycle, and it turns off when complete. I plugged it in on the opposite end of the house and had no problems. We also have a home automation (X-10) system and there is no conflict with it.
All-in-all, it's a nice addition to the laundry set. It may not be essential but is very worthwhile especially if the laundry is far from other activity centers.

When our top loader died a few weeks back we decided it was finally time to try a front loader. After checking reviews on a lot of different sources (epinions, amazon, consumerreports, jdpowers, buzzillions) I decided on an LG but a different model.
I went to sears and they didn't have the model I had settled on - they directed me to this one. More checking of reviews ensued. I ended up buying this from Sears. On sale, + 5% off for using my sears account plus no financing for a year it was a reasonable deal. $665.00.
My husband did the pick up and installation and that was easy. (Don't forget to take out the shipping bolts!)
There were two things that stood out right away when we ran our first few loads -
1) The clothes were WAY cleaner than they had been in our top loader. I mean, seriously, I don't even know how to describe it. Just, wow, I didn't know a washing machine could get things so clean.
2) The dryer time was cut in half or better. A load of towels will dry in 20 minutes on the permanent press setting! AWESOME!
On the down side the cycle times are a little longer - Averaging just under an hour. The sanitize cycle is 1hr40-min. One reviewer had a complaint about water temperature. I have no idea how hot the water gets and will never have the energy to figure it out. I'm happy enough just seeing how clean everything is. Dish towels run in the sanitize cycle came out smelling clean. Yay!
The machine has a speed wash that will complete in just under 30 minutes. How cool is that? If you are behind on your laundry and just need to get some loads through you can have loads going through every half hour and you don't have to wait for the dryer because the clothes are spun dry so well their dry time is short.
The only real down side is that it is a myth to think you are now free to wash bulky things like king comforters. The load won't balance to spin and so the machine just keeps trying to balance it but it can't. However, I think it will work to wash the bulky items and stand by for the spin cycle. Just pull the clean comforter out and air dry it. (or squeeze it out yourself and put it in the dryer.
We debated on the 179.00 for an extended warranty. Based on the 10 year motor warranty and 3 year drum warranty we're skipping the extended warranty. I'll check back here if that turns out to have been a terrible mistake.

Our old washing machine broke a couple of months ago; and, even though we could have fixed it, we decided it was time to go with a new front loader instead. The main reason we wanted front loading machines was because of the space savings when stacked. After a week of research, we settled on either this LG model or the comparable Samsung, based on reading pretty much every review we could find - we settled on the LG because of price.
Aside from the fact that these are extremely heavy compared to our old top loaders, the installation was fairly straight forward. The water hoses are a couple of feet longer than a typical washer hose (even other front loaders), which was great for us since we ended up stacking them a few feet from the water inputs. They are also very easy to setup and use.
At first we were a bit nervous about the height of the machines when stacked, but those fears were completely unfounded. I'm 5'9" and I can access both the washer and dryer with ease. The washer tub is actually tilted upward to make it easier to access when it's sitting on the floor instead of a stand. As a quick reference, if you're worried about the height, the bottom of the dryer opening sits at 54" when stacked, the center of the dryer control knob sits at 76", and the top of the dryer is at 79".
Aside from the obvious space savings, here are the things we've really liked about this washer:
1) It runs very quietly with no noticeable vibration. I was worried about this after reading reviews for other front loaders, but it hasn't been a problem at all - even with both the washer & dryer stacked and running at the same time.
2) It gets our clothes at least as clean as our old washer ever did; but it uses a lot less water to do it. (It's supposed to be easier on the clothes too, but I have no way to verify that.)
3) The controls are intuitive and easy to use.
4) We can fit an amazing amount in each load. Our old washer was a high capacity top loader, but this thing can probably clean almost twice as many clothes in each load. It is especially nice when it comes time to clean bedding that didn't even fit in the old washer.
5) I love the load sense feature. This is one of the things you should read the manual to figure out how to use; but it is definitely worth the effort. Basically, it tells you how much detergent you need to add in order to get the clothes clean for that particular load - I use it to tell me when the load is full by just adding clothes until it says I need the full amount of deterget:). It really does eliminate a lot of guess-work.
As usual, there are some things I wish I could change:
1) You can't use powder detergent with liquid bleach in the same load. You need to have either powder or liquid for both.
2) The controls don't remember settings, which can be a bit irritating since we use the same settings 95% of the time. Luckily they are easy to set, but you do need to reprogram it every time you turn it on.
3) The washer door only opens one way (the hinge is on the left), which is great if that's the way you need it to open. In our case, it opened the wrong way so we had to rearrange the room a bit. Fortunately, the long hoses made it possible to rearrange everything without a lot of extra effort or expense.
Another thing I had read about the front loaders was that the door needs to be left open between loads. I thought this would be a pain, but it really hasn't been a big deal at all. The manual doesn't actually recommend doing that; but says to periodically run a tub clean cycle (I think it says to do it every month) to eliminate any odor. I figure I'll leave the door open as well just to be safe.
Overall we are extremely pleased with these. I guess time will tell if they hold up as well as our old top loader did, but so far I'm pretty confident that they will. I highly recommend these if you're looking for a new washer and dryer.

LG : WM0642HW 27 Front Load Washing Machine with 7 Washing Programs Review

LG : WM0642HW 27 Front Load Washing Machine with 7 Washing Programs

(More customer reviews)
This washer is just phenomenal! It cleans VERY well, even in my hard well water. It's very quiet, only producing what some may deem objectionable amounts of noise during the spin cycle, which operates at an incredible 1200 RPM to extract every last bit of moisture possible out of the clothes before you get them out of the washer, which makes your drying of the clothes far more efficient, as the drying time is shortened so much. I've noticed a significant savings in gas usage (drying and hot water) since purchasing this machine.
The machine has to be EXTREMELY level, easy to take care of if you use eight (yes, EIGHT) little levels. Each corner has two sides, so it's easiest to level the machine with one on each side of each corner. You can find cheap ones at the dollar store or bargain bins that work just fine for this purpose.
This washer will wash an overstuffed King-sized down comforter easily. I can even fit the cover in with it.
It has many features, including on-board water heater (essential when dealing with as little water as these machines use, to keep the temperature up), "sanitary" (super-hot water) cycle, pre-wash, and many others. You can even set up custom programs.
The minor gripes: Pre-wash cycle has to have powder put in the compartments, as liquid just drains right into the washer. Cycle times are longer than a top-loader, but the capacity of this thing makes up for that...it's just another of the things to get used to vs. a top-loader. The "cute chime" signalling finished laundry is too quiet to hear on any floor but the one the washer's on. No biggie - the estimated time to finish is usually dead-on unless you get an unbalanced load, which doesn't happen often. Less often, in fact, than my old top-loader.
To ALL who experience problems with smell: LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN BETWEEN USES! This is stated very clearly in the owner's manual. I've NEVER had a problem with mildew odor, and I simply leave the door open every time. It's just one of those things to get used to with a front-loader vs. a top-loader.
Also, the torque this thing puts out may strain a floor that isn't specially reinforced to handle the power of this machine, so it's recommended only on cement (I have carpeted cement where mine is located) or specially reinforced flooring. Many people would do well to make note that this is NOT a conventional top-loader!
A reminder: front-loaders require H.e. detergent, or a VERY SMALL amount of regular. H.e. compatible detergents like that one "Signature" Powder work just fine.
All in all, I love this machine! (I can't believe I'm saying that about a laundry machine...)

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this at PC Richard's for $639 free delivery and have had it for two weeks now and am really happy with it. It uses MUCH less water than most other front load high efficiency washers (only 13 gallons), so you won't even see a water line, but don't worry, it's still washing (this was actually news to me since I was used to the old top loaders which submerge clothes in water). It just gently tumbles around and the water sloshes through the clothes as they tumble. And with 4.4 cubic ft capacity (as opposed to most of the other front loads which seem to max out at 4.0 cubic ft), you can load this baby up and there's still plenty of room for your clothes to tumble around.
Make sure you use detergent labeled "For HE" machines (high efficiency)or else you'll damage your machine with oversudsing. In fact, the folks at Bosch recommend to never use more than 1 Tblsp of the HE laundry detergent for their Bosch machines (even though the Tide HE detergent recommends using more). Sure enough 1 Tblsp seemed sufficient for all my clothes (whites, greys and darks). My G*d, I'm going to have enough detergent for 30 years!!!
While the newer Vision series (the 500 and 800) have a lot more settings and electronic panels (vs. knobs) than this washer, I prefer the 300. I like the manual dial that can be turned (less computerized parts requiring service) and the settings which are there are sufficient for my needs (regular hot, medium and cold, allergy protection using an extra hot rinse and xxtra sanitary (180 degree wash and rinse cycle)). I tried most of the settings (perm press, cotton, hot, warm, cold) on various different types of fabrics (underwear, perm press pants, jeans, cotton pants and shirts etc.) and everything came out great. I did my towels using the extra sanitary setting and sheets in allergy protection setting and all I can say about that is I'm not sneezing and my white towels finally came out white!
So nothing bad to say. The product seems to work well, it uses much less water than a standard front load and it's really quiet when it runs. After the spin cycle is completed, it gently tosses your clothes so they're not all smashed and stuck inside the wall of the drum.
