Speed Queen 3.3 Cu Ft Top Load Rear Control Washer AWN432S Review

I am the proud owner of a washing machine built in Wisconsin.
That's right. The Good Ole USA does still build some great things and this is one of them. The Speed Queen top loader represents (in my words) a winner and the most refined development of a classic top load washing machine. It is clearly the result of Speed Queen's many decades of experience buiding and selling machines to American families and launder mats across this wide world. This machine is refined to the nth degree to do nothing but produce clean soft clothes day in and day out over the years and do it with a few simple settings and no worries or front loader musty smells and expensive service agreements. Use the money you would have spent in the service agreement for that front loader from oversees you are eyeing and buy a solid washer from the USA.
Mine is white. They all are. Her paint job has three different coats. I swear the last must be a clear coat because she shines like a soft pearl in our laundry. She has no lights or buttons and she needs none.
She is undemanding. To start, I set the water level (yes, I do that, not the machine), select one of three cycles, measure the detergent and toss it into her beautifully made stainless steel wash tub and maybe add some softener into the best and most effective agitator available in a washer. Then close the lid, start the washer and walk away worry free about the result.
I can hear it run softly. It is a sound much like the soothing sound of a window fan on a hot summer day. It does not disturb but instead reassures that all is going well with the wash. Soon enough you learn her songs and can tell where the she is in the wash cycle just from the sound with no fancy and soon to be broken status lights or a chime to tell me when she's finished doing what she does best, what she does better than any washer in the world.
She is simple yet refined to the nth degree in that simple purpose.
She is an American built washing machine doing what she does best in an American Home.
What more do you want, steam?

Over the past decade, Maytag's reputation has really gone in the tank. Since Whirlpool bought them in 2008 things have looked up in the overall ratings from JD Power and Consumer Reports. I bought this unit the day after Thanksgiving and if I could go back, I would buy something else. It is quiet and I have had no problems with any of the features, except the auto water level. In half of the loads it stops filling to early and the clothes do not get cleaned properly. We have called and they have instructed us exactly how to load the machine and we read the instructions, we have two BA and a Master Degree - my wife and I know how to do laundry, and still it does not always work right. It is a real pain when after a full cycle there are towels that have dry spots on them, or jeans that do not come clean, or our kids clothes that are not getting as clean as they can. The worst part is there is no over-ride; you are stuck with this feature. So now we stand there and continually open the lid while it fills which resets the auto feature. If we do that 2-3 times it fully fills and stuff gets clean. If the machine fills, it washes really well, is quiet, and so far has been acceptable after 6 weeks. But when it does not fill correctly - WORTHLESS! And we bought the matching dryer - it is dead as we wait for the repairman who is coming in 8 days! Go elsewhere!

I am surprised by the negative review by the other gentleman. My wife and I bought this washer two years ago because we wanted a high-efficiency machine but the front-loaders were too deep to fit in our tiny laundry room. We have had no problem with this machine. It saves us about $5 on our water bill every month. It gets our clothes clean--much better than my old Kenmore and Maytag conventional top-loaders. It gets more moisture out of the laundry due to high-speed spin, and our laundry spends far less time in the matching dryer. In fact, virtually every load except towels will be completely dry in less than 40 minutes, and it uses only medium heat to get there. I literally have to try to shrink something in this washer if I buy something a size too big, and even when I try it is difficult to do. No repairs or problems so far.

Particularly avoid those with steam.
Don't believe me, search F35 SUD duet.
Analog pressure switch fails under normal usage quickly, but apparently many times after warranty up in 12 months.
Stick with tried and true, avoid Whirlpool front loaders, or pay up for warranty that lasts your ownership cycle.
Also, be prepared to be without a washer.
Clearly a prevalent problem and design flaw, but Whirlpool refuses to acknowledge with a free replacement.

I conducted a LOT of research before we decided on this Amana front load washing machine. Our 13 year old Kenmore top loader finally died, and we were in the market for a quality washing machine in the four hundred to eight hundred dollar range or so. 'Consumer Reports' rated this machine highly, as did actual owners/users of it on various other sites, including Home Depot's. Even if the reviews may be 'carefully culled' (as a previous reviewer stated), certainly the excellent user reviews on the 'Consumer Reports' website were not. There were many negative reviews written up for other washers on that site as well. In any case, we were smitten by the price, features, and excellent reviews the Amana garnered, so purchasing this machine was a 'no brainer'. It uses much less electricity and water than a conventional top loader, has an automatic reservoir dispenser for laundry detergent, fabric softener, and bleach, and a second rinse cycle, as well as a 'quick wash' and other longer washes, which is perfect. Our clothes and comforters (full and queen sized) came out smelling great, and best of all, the spin cycle got our clothes the driest i've ever seen in all my years of using commercial and residential washing machines. Consequently, drying time has been cut down substantially. The 'knob issue' that some people bring up is really a 'non issue', since you can re-start the washer by re-pressing the knob if you accidentally bump into it. But truth be told, unless your laundry room is extremely cramped, or you have to reach over and above the washing machine to get something off a shelf, most people will never bump the washer to the off position. Also, the previous reviewer's mention of the washer not turning off is nonsense. Of course the washer turns off when the spin cycle ends. The LED indicators that stay on are just there to remind you that the wash is done, and that you have to open the door and retrieve your laundry. This doesn't mean the machine is actually on. It is not. Another non-issue. All in all, my wife and I are ecstatic and floored by the cleaning ability and sheer value afforded by this phenomenal machine! Amana truly hit a 'home run' with this unit in all respects. If you don't believe me, go read all the online reviews, including 'Consumer Reports'. Buy with confidence.

I purchased my matching washer and dryer at sears and have this exact model. First I have to say this was not my first choice as I tend to want to purchase the "cadillac" of every home appliance. However financially I had to be slightly more modest with my selection. I am amazed with this machine and pleasantly suprised!!
-It is EXTREMELY QUIET and the loudest part is at the end when it is spinning out the water, it kind of sounds like a quietly-muffled jet engine..lol
-On the very first wash I did my CLOTHES CAME OUT 3 TIMES BRIGHTER than my last regular top loader.
-Oh!! And it BARELY USES WATER....It turns to the right then the left coating the clothes with the detergent water until it saturates them completely. Then it begins the washing process where it turns several times to the right and then to the left all the while it basically beats the clothes against the drum as it turns..Kind of reminds me of the old times when people would wash their clothes in the creek and beat them against the rocks. :) It is such a simple concept and yet it tooks so long to get here!
-The other thing I like is the detergent compartment...it has 3 places to put your detergent, bleach and softener and then you walk away, no going back to add the softener.
-Another thing I noticed is that when the spinning process is complete the drum turns a few more times to the right and left to loosen the clothes from the sides...they come out of the washer fluffed and easy to keep wrinkle-free.
I haven't found anything yet that I don't like about this washer....I am a hard person to please and I am tickled pink with this! :)

I purchased this washer 28 months ago and have had to replace the door twice since. The cheap plastic door frame is all that holds the door onto the metal hinges. We have no children in the house and there is no abuse to the door other than normal open/closing so over time the cheap plastic cracks around the top hinge (in my case) and there's nothing holding the door onto the hinge now so it hangs when you open it. Eventually the whole frame cracks and the door has to be replaced. It's costly and ridiculous that you have to throw an otherwise good door into the landfill every year. Disappointed with this product and should have done more research before buying it becasue there are many bad reviews online for this product. Do yourself a favor and look at another front load space saving washer before purchasing.

We purchased the matching dryer to go with this washer and they are fantastic! They are quiet, fast, and energy efficient. We purchased the drawer bases which give you more storage and raise the machines up waist level so you don't have to bend down when loading and unloading.
The only issue we had was with the brass "Y" included with the steam dryer for the cold water faucet. It leaked, but Samsung sent a replacement the next day!
We gave away an 8 year old set of Maytags that worked, but were both noisy...good ridence! These are so quiet and do a better job cleaning and drying our clothes than any set we have owned before. We have had GE, Kenmore, and Maytag. All good products, but these Samsung products are so far superior, it isn't even funny!
And don't let the "NASA" designed controls fool you, they are very easy to use with preprogrammed settings (e.g. whites, towels, perm press, etc.). And the steam in both the washer and dryer allow you to remove wrinkles and sanitize your clothes. This washer also has the ability to remove 99% of bacteria in cold water using silver ions.
Don't let our 5 star rating and the other person's 1 star rating make up your mind. We researched Consumer Reports and other web sites and read lots of consumer opinions before making our decision. Plus you get an energy credit on your taxes for purchasing these Samsung products!
One recommendation, purchase the extended warranty as these are high tech with digital controls. Ours are protected for 5 years along with a "lemon" warranty. If the other consumer who gave 1 star had purchased this, they could have already replaced the defective unit or got their money back. Although we are suspicious seeing that Samsung give a 1 year warranty and they claim they can't get Samsung to do anything about their washer...so do your research before writing off this product. We highly recommend this washer although it was the most expensive one we researched...worth every dollar!

When looking to replace my washing machine, I started out looking at the traditional top loaders. The cheap ones were around $300 and more standard quality ones around $400, and I saw some that were another $100 or more beyond that. When the salesman asked me about front load washers, I didn't give it much thought because they tend to be more pricey and out of my range. In fact, the first one he showed me was about $700. When I asked him what the cheaper ones cost, he showed me the Frigidaire FTF2140FS for $550, and seeing as they had $100 off deal, it was only slightly more than the standard top loader. So I took him up on the deal, ultimately paying $475 after tax, and so far I'm very happy with its performance.
I usually have two or three people who rent rooms in my house. The old washer took 40 gallons of water per load. The Frigidaire takes just 15 gallons! So right off the bat I'm going to be saving a lot on my water bill, as well as a few bucks on electricity as this washer takes less of that to operate, too.
The controls are pretty simple to figure out. Ten cycles, four temperature settings, you can set how fast you want the basket to spin, and there's a few extra options, too. Shut the door, hit start, and let it go. Just be sure to remember that you must use HE (High Efficiency) detergent.
The wash is very quiet and the spin dry sucks the water right out of the clothes. I can dry my stuff in half the time!
I did encounter one problem twice. When washing my bed sheets and blankets, I heard a beeping noise. The washer was stopped and I thought it was done, but it turns out my sheets were still soaked. I looked at the manual and apparently if the load in the washer basket becomes uneven, it won't spin (that's why it was beeping). So I just pushed the blankets a few times, shut the door, and on the cycle dial there's an option for Final Spin, which is just that, the final spin dry. So I selected that, hit start, and it worked both times. I haven't had that problem with any other load of laundry before or after that.
This was my first foray into the world of front load washers and so far I'm very pleased with the results! It's quiet, efficient, my clothes are clean and smell fresh, and most important of all to me, it isn't tearing my clothes like my old washer was. And for the price I got it at, it's a great value!

DO NOT DEPEND ON CUSTOMER SERVICE. Within the one year warranty the pump quit. For several weeks I attempted to get a customer service person, and when I finally did it was useless. Because they had no repair people in my region, they decided they would would replace my washer, and they would pay shipping costs. Nice offer, but they never followed through. And I again was in telephone hell. I will NEVER buy another Haier product again.

A smart, space-saving choice for busy households, this innovative appliance features a 1.7-cubic-foot stainless-steel drum and functions as both a washing machine and a dryer. The compact, front-load unit can be built right into a kitchen cabinet, and it will work off a regular power socket as it only requires 115 voltage~60Hz. Even more, the appliance does not require external venting for the dryer--moisture during the dry cycle condenses into water and runs into a drain, rather than being released as damp, hot air through a vent.
The washer/dryer's user-friendly electronic control panel with LED display makes it exceptionally easy to operate. Standard wash cycles include delicate, heavy duty, and normal, with options for prewash and extra-rinse. For added convenience, the appliance comes with handy dispensers that release detergent, fabric softener, and bleach automatically into the load at the right time. It also offers six fabric-care wash cycles, auto-select wash/rinse temperature, a spin cycle on/off option, three water levels, and 60 water temperatures. Standard dry cycles include heavy duty, normal, and timed. Other highlights include a self-locking door, two dryer-temperature settings, a self-cleaning lint filter, 24-hour delay start, ultra-quiet operation, and adjustable leveling legs to balance the machine if it sits on uneven ground. The ETL-approved washer/dryer combo measures 21-9/16 by 23-7/8 by 33-3/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

These should ONLY be called antislip feet. They ar the same material that is already on the bottom of my washer feet, just lots more of it. The do NOT dampen any vibration, and possibly make more because they make it nearly immposible to get the machine level. They create a more wabbley base. My 2nd floor laundry room was very level and so was my washer but on the highest spin with heavy loads the energy is transfered to the house creating very tiny wavelength vibrations. My washer did NOT wabble, walk or move at all with out these feet. With these feet under it never felt level. My husband and I spent HOURS with it trying to get it stable and level. It never felt stable. We decided to give it a week to try to see if it was us simply noticing everything again but we saw nor felt any change or improvement over the time in which we used these.
If you need grip feet I think these will be good for you, otherwise they are NOT ANITVIBRATION feet.

When our top loader died a few weeks back we decided it was finally time to try a front loader. After checking reviews on a lot of different sources (epinions, amazon, consumerreports, jdpowers, buzzillions) I decided on an LG but a different model.
I went to sears and they didn't have the model I had settled on - they directed me to this one. More checking of reviews ensued. I ended up buying this from Sears. On sale, + 5% off for using my sears account plus no financing for a year it was a reasonable deal. $665.00.
My husband did the pick up and installation and that was easy. (Don't forget to take out the shipping bolts!)
There were two things that stood out right away when we ran our first few loads -
1) The clothes were WAY cleaner than they had been in our top loader. I mean, seriously, I don't even know how to describe it. Just, wow, I didn't know a washing machine could get things so clean.
2) The dryer time was cut in half or better. A load of towels will dry in 20 minutes on the permanent press setting! AWESOME!
On the down side the cycle times are a little longer - Averaging just under an hour. The sanitize cycle is 1hr40-min. One reviewer had a complaint about water temperature. I have no idea how hot the water gets and will never have the energy to figure it out. I'm happy enough just seeing how clean everything is. Dish towels run in the sanitize cycle came out smelling clean. Yay!
The machine has a speed wash that will complete in just under 30 minutes. How cool is that? If you are behind on your laundry and just need to get some loads through you can have loads going through every half hour and you don't have to wait for the dryer because the clothes are spun dry so well their dry time is short.
The only real down side is that it is a myth to think you are now free to wash bulky things like king comforters. The load won't balance to spin and so the machine just keeps trying to balance it but it can't. However, I think it will work to wash the bulky items and stand by for the spin cycle. Just pull the clean comforter out and air dry it. (or squeeze it out yourself and put it in the dryer.
We debated on the 179.00 for an extended warranty. Based on the 10 year motor warranty and 3 year drum warranty we're skipping the extended warranty. I'll check back here if that turns out to have been a terrible mistake.

Excel 110v Compact Portable Clothes Tumble Dryer Review

Excel 110v Compact Portable Clothes Tumble Dryer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great little dryer for small spaces. You don't need a vent for this little electric dryer, but it does need to be about 4 inches away from the wall for the hot air exhaust to function properly. The dryer isn't really noisy but it does sound like an AC running; after a while it fades into background noise. There are only two settings: Soft and Normal. These functions adjust the heat setting. The dryer also uses a timer setting like a toaster oven and ranges from 10-160 min. of dry time. The drum is small and the manual recommends only 2.8 lbs of clothes. This is about the equivalent of two towels or a change of clothes. I gave this a three stars rating because the dryer setting is not as hot which means you may have to run it a little longer for desired results. Also the door reminds me of doll house plastic; it's flimsy so be careful with it, and sometimes annoying when trying to close. I also gave it three stars because the price could have been a little lower based on its performance. None of these things are major problems but it is enough to lower the rating. It's about the size of a 19" TV (not a digital flat screen...think older model). It can be wall mounted with brackets but you'll have to purchase those because they aren't included. The outside stays cool to the touch. Overall, for such a small dryer it does a decent job.

This washer is just phenomenal! It cleans VERY well, even in my hard well water. It's very quiet, only producing what some may deem objectionable amounts of noise during the spin cycle, which operates at an incredible 1200 RPM to extract every last bit of moisture possible out of the clothes before you get them out of the washer, which makes your drying of the clothes far more efficient, as the drying time is shortened so much. I've noticed a significant savings in gas usage (drying and hot water) since purchasing this machine.
The machine has to be EXTREMELY level, easy to take care of if you use eight (yes, EIGHT) little levels. Each corner has two sides, so it's easiest to level the machine with one on each side of each corner. You can find cheap ones at the dollar store or bargain bins that work just fine for this purpose.
This washer will wash an overstuffed King-sized down comforter easily. I can even fit the cover in with it.
It has many features, including on-board water heater (essential when dealing with as little water as these machines use, to keep the temperature up), "sanitary" (super-hot water) cycle, pre-wash, and many others. You can even set up custom programs.
The minor gripes: Pre-wash cycle has to have powder put in the compartments, as liquid just drains right into the washer. Cycle times are longer than a top-loader, but the capacity of this thing makes up for that...it's just another of the things to get used to vs. a top-loader. The "cute chime" signalling finished laundry is too quiet to hear on any floor but the one the washer's on. No biggie - the estimated time to finish is usually dead-on unless you get an unbalanced load, which doesn't happen often. Less often, in fact, than my old top-loader.
To ALL who experience problems with smell: LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN BETWEEN USES! This is stated very clearly in the owner's manual. I've NEVER had a problem with mildew odor, and I simply leave the door open every time. It's just one of those things to get used to with a front-loader vs. a top-loader.
Also, the torque this thing puts out may strain a floor that isn't specially reinforced to handle the power of this machine, so it's recommended only on cement (I have carpeted cement where mine is located) or specially reinforced flooring. Many people would do well to make note that this is NOT a conventional top-loader!
A reminder: front-loaders require H.e. detergent, or a VERY SMALL amount of regular. H.e. compatible detergents like that one "Signature" Powder work just fine.
All in all, I love this machine! (I can't believe I'm saying that about a laundry machine...)

Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub Review

Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I estimate that I have used this washer for 4 loads each week since buying from J&R in early October, 2006. I live in a studio in New York and bought this one because (1) it has a sink adapter, which the front-loading 14.3-lb model didn't seem to include and (2) at 17.5 inches wide/deep, it fit through my bathroom door, which the front-loading 14.3-lb model (at 20.5 inches wide) wouldn't.
Out of the box, you have to install an included metal pan at the bottom. Install it so that it is convex: there's a reason that the legs are so high. One of the problems I had during installation was that one of the screws holding this metal pan to the body comes very close to a clamp holding the gooseneck drain tube as it exits the body. The clamp had fallen out of position, and the end of the screw is close to where the clamp goes. I don't think I was ever in danger of puncturing the drainage tube, but it's something to watch out for.
You need a place to hang the drainage tube, between 31.5 and 40 inches high. The machine cannot fill the tub with water to a height above the maximum height of the drainage path.
On my first two loads, I made a puddle of water on the ground. There were two reasons for this: the first time, the water supply hose was not tightened sufficiently at the machine end, and water dribbled out and behind the machine until I figured out what was going on. With that tightened (I used a wrench), there was no leak. On my second load, I put in too many clothes (more about that later) and there was a water-resistant nylon jacket on top. Just before the very first spin cycle, some water was cupped on that jacket and did not drain out with the wash water. When the tub started to spin, that water came out. I never loaded that many clothes into the washer again, and haven't had any spills since.
During a normal wash cycle, the machine does the following steps three times: fill, agitate, agitate, drain, spin, drain, spin, drain, spin. The second and third iterations are called the "rinse" cycle. Often, the water out of the drain is still bubbly after the second spin. (I use a quarter capful or less of All no-fragrance 3x liquid concentrate.) So, I run another rinse cycle. If the machine detects an unbalance condition during a spin, it will stop, fill the tub with water, and agitate in an attempt to redistribute the clothes before draining and spinning again. I think the machine does this two or three times before giving up and beeping ten times to alert the user of the unbalance condition.
During the agitation process, this machine tends to intertwine long or extended parts of clothing --- shirt sleeves and socks --- into braid-like knots, which often trigger the unbalance condition during the subsequent spin. For example, when I wash four or five long-sleeved shirts together, I always have to untie and separate two or three of the shirts where the sleeves have been twisted together. I think good washing is where the wash water can touch every surface of the clothes, and being tied together prevents this. These problems probably would not happen with a front-loading washing machine.
What is the capacity of this washer? Well, I would say:
2 bath towels; or
2 pairs of jeans or pants; or
2 sweatshirts and 1 pair of sweat pants; or
4 long-sleeved oxford shirts; or
6 small-size undershirts; or
8-12 medium-size boxer underwear.
That's at the "high" water level. You may be able to load more than that, but I think the clothes won't get as clean, and the machine will probably reach more unbalance situations.
I once tried to wash a terrycloth robe. The robe fit in the tub, but the machine always got to an unbalance condition when it tried to spin. I think it's sort of like trying to run a centrifuge with only one tube. Sometimes after the spin cycle I find a sock or a shirt stretched across the middle of the tub, instead of having been thrown centrifugally against the tub walls.
Using my DSC-P71 digital camera in the multi-burst 30 frames-per-second mode and a light and a dark shirt in the washer, I estimate the initial spin at 450 rpm (light shirt passed once every 4 frames) and a final spin at 780 rpm (light shirt passed about 6.5 times in 0.5 seconds - about once every other frame). If I hang the clothes in my studio (not in the bathroom), then they dry in about one day or less, depending on the humidity. It takes much longer if I hang them in the bathroom.
Update (November 2007): This machine is still running. After a year, here are my comments:
After getting tired of the drain tube clamp falling out, I made two small wedges out of a folded-up credit card to hold the clamp in place.
I made a third spill (and this one was a big one): once, the gooseneck drain hose came apart from the U-shaped drain-pipe hook. So, now I check that connection every week or so.
I always run an extra rinse cycle (or two). If I have time, during the spin cycles, I lower the drain tube to allow more sudsy water to drain out. (This is a high-maintenance tactic, though --- it can lead to floods if you're not careful.) Some types of clothes absorb and retain more water (and detergent) than others, and my skin is better after more of the detergent is rinsed out. You can take just-washed clothes from a standard washing machine and re-rinse them here to check how much detergent is left.
Update (April 2008): In the past two months, I have had two more major spills. Both times, it seems that the water-level sensor got stuck and failed to tell the inlet valve to shut off. When this happens, the water overflows the tub and comes out the bottom of the machine. (Usually, you hear a click when the water level is reached, and then the valve shuts off; but in these cases, the first click never occurs.)
Now that I live in an apartment building with a good laundry room, I use this washer mostly for small items: socks, underwear, undershirts.
Update (April 2009): It turned out that the water-level sensor had failed. The sign of impending failure is that the sensor will sometimes fail to close the valve when set to "high", but will always close at "low" and "medium" water levels. Then, "medium" will stop working and the valve will only close when the water level is set to "low". Since the manufacturer's warranty had expired, I had the part replaced under my credit-card-based extended warranty program. Haier suggested two authorized repair operators; one of them said that they didn't service this model. The other did, and charged $85 (diagnostic service call) plus $60 (labor) plus $21.52 (part). The part had to be ordered and took about five weeks (!) to arrive.

Perfect for a small apartment or dorm room, this compact pulsator washing machine will help save on money and time wasted at the laundromat. The machine's 1-1/5-cubic-foot stainless-steel tub holds up to 6-3/5 pounds of laundry, and it connects to the kitchen sink in just five steps thanks to the included quick-connect sink adapter. Even more, the washer's smart technology and electronic controls allow for selecting the wash setting and water level to ensure a perfect load every time. Choose from three water levels based on the size of the load--save water by choosing a lower level for smaller loads. The unit's standard wash cycles include normal, heavy duty, whites, soak, and delicate; its special wash cycles include hand wash, sanitary, and unique or exclusive. The washing machine delivers a maximum spin speed of 740 rpm and its cycle status lights, estimated time-remaining display, and end-of-cycle signal provide added convenience. Other thoughtful details include a removable lint filter, a side strap for easy mobility, and an adjustable leveling leg to balance the machine if it rests on uneven ground. Fill and drain hoses come included. The washing machine measures 17-1/4 by 17-19/32 by 29-29/32 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

(More customer reviews)
If you are like me, you are scouring these reviews trying to decide if this is the right product for you- if it will arrive safely, be easy to hook up, and work as promised.
Since this is a fairly large purchase for most, I thought I would add my own review, as a person who seriously debated buying this machine based on the reviews about damages and other difficulties. After much consideration, I finally ordered and received this washing machine and there are a few things I can tell you.
Firstly, it is going to come with some dings, almost guaranteed. As another reviewer mentioned, the tub is free floating inside and there is absolutely nothing to stop it from swinging into the metal housing during shipping. And you have to know it will get bumped hard enough in shipping to swing that tub around at least a little. It would have taken a dollar's worth of styrofoam to secure the tub inside, it is a shame they don't take care of that little problem. So, just resolve yourself to this idea and you won't be disappointed. Fortunately, the dings are only cosmetic, and you might have only a few, or you might have a lot. My machine arrived dinged up, but works perfectly. Most of the dings were caused by the tub pushing from inside out, but there were also a couple of indentions obviously from things hitting the box during shipping. Though I am making a thorough description of the damage, overall, it was not devastating.
Secondly, it's not that hard to hook up, and I found the instruction book adequate. The first thing you must do when you receive the machine, after you unpack it, is to lay it on its side an put the casters on. There are two stopper-type feet, and two adjustable level feet on it, out of the box. The adjustable level feet come right off. The stopper type feet will require a pipe wrench to remove. Don't even think you can do it with your hands or a cheap pair of pliers. They won't budge. But get yourself a pipe wrench and turn counter-clockwise and they will begin to unscrew, no problem. At this time, it will help you to have an electric screwdriver handy to mount the bottom (noise cancelling) panel. You can do it by hand if you want, but if you are doing it alone it will be difficult for you to hold it and put the screws in. Also, the electric screwdriver has a little more force, so if your frame is slightly dented, you can almost correct it by forcing the screws into the correct position.
Voila! Once you put the machine upright, it rolls very easily! The next task is to roll it over to the sink and set up your connections. Personally, I don't see any benefit to having a Y adapter if you only have one faucet. The hot and cold water are going to mix together before going to the intakes anyway, so what is the point? I hooked up only one hose, to the cold water intake. (There is a screw-on plug included for the other intake if you choose to hook up only one.) When the wash cycle begins, I have the hot water on, then after the tub fills I turn the hot water off, and the cold water on for the remaining 2 rinse cycles.
Next, the quick-connect adapter for the faucet is not difficult to install. You simply unscrew the aerator off your faucet, and add the quick-connect version which screws right in to replace it. Then attach the other piece of the quick-connect to the end of the cold water hose you just installed on the back of the washer. Now this hose will clip on to your faucet in one motion. Just push down the white piece, slip it over the piece on the faucet, and release. It makes a tight, reliable connection. If you leave the faucet piece on (you can still run water through it) then each time you want to wash, all you have to do is click the quick-connect on and you are ready to go. So, no worries about that part, it is a snap.
Now, the drain hose is another thing. It is too inflexible, and too short to be convenient. If you use this hose, be sure to use something to weight it so it remains in the sink when the water starts coming through! It is made of slick accordion plastic which does not stay in place easily. Myself, I went and bought some thick black rubber tubing in a longer length. A hose clamp is included, be sure to use it to secure whatever hose you might choose to use. If you don't clamp the hose on tightly, you will have a flood as soon as the pump kicks in.
OK, so that's what you can expect once the machine arrives. It seems like a bit of work, and all in all it will probably take you an hour and half before you get your first wash in. But that's where it pays off. This little machine washes just beautifully. The clothes are very clean after the generous wash and two rinse cycles. It spins them very well, so the clothes dry in 6-8 hours after you hang them up. (If you are an apartment dweller with no dryer, do a search on the internet for a "gull-wing clothes drying rack" for a neat solution for drying.)
I have to agree that the design on the detergent drawer could be much much better, but it works. It also has a fabric softener dispenser and a bleach dispenser! The electronic panel is just plain cool, as well. Like another reviewer, I hope it lasts a long time. There is also an available soak cycle which you can add to any of the regular cycles, which is very handy. When it comes to washing, this machine is A+. I really could not be happier with its performance. The tub actually holds much more than I anticipated-- I would guess about 2/3 of a "normal" washer.
I found this machine a good investment, considering the cost and inconvenience of going to a laundromat. If you are living in an apartment without hook-ups and are spending hours in the laundromat, this will change your life in a good way.
I will try to come back after some months and comment on the long term performance, but I am not anticipating any problems.
**UPDATE**
6 months later, and I am still very happy with this machine. Thrilled actually, not to have seen the inside of a laundromat for a good long while.
The only issue I have had is that if the machine is not on a nice level piece of flooring, it will have balance issues. Once I recognized what was causing the problem, I had to memorize the "sweet spot" on the floor in front of the sink where the machine has to sit precisely in order to avoid any balance problems. My kitchen floor is anything but level. As long as it is in the zone, it can hold an amazing amount of clothes and spin clean without a hitch. If it is not level, I can have even a small amount of clothes in it and it acts up by refilling itself over and over because it thinks the clothes are out of balance and it is trying to correct it by adding water (self-balancing feature.) So if you are having similar trouble, experiment moving the machine 3-4" this way or that, until you find the place it likes and it will perform like a champ.
Using my drying rack and opening the windows to create a cross-breeze in the house, the clothes are dry in 5-6 hours. There are other bonuses to this method. Not putting them in the dryer is also causing less wear and color loss to the fabrics, and stains do not set...so if you miss one, you can get it out the next time without the dryer having "cooked" it in forever. Then there's the simple environmental and cost savings of not running a dryer as well.
Thumbs up for this machine, dings and all. Kick your feet up in your favorite chair while the washer is working and think about how great it is not to be in some sweaty laundromat full of college kids.
**UPDATE**
Just wanted to say- it's been nearly 5 years since I received this machine from Amazon and it's still working perfectly. It's been my only machine and I use it weekly. The casters make funny noises now due to the locks on them slipping, but after years of service...that's easy to forgive.

I have these under my 20+ year old washing machine. Shaking is now history, and I no longer have to worry about bugging my downstairs neighbors (one of many problems with living in a condo).
One thing that may not be clear from the pictures is that the color (blue in this case) is only on the very bottom (most of the feet are still black), so when these are sitting under your washing machine, no one is going to notice it.
