(More customer reviews)As a new quilter I didn't know that most people use Olfa cutters and I bought the Clover. Later I used an Olfa and found that it's not nearly as easy to use, but, of course, people get used to it. The only disadvantage of Clover is that you have to remember to close it up each time so you don't accidentally cut yourself. But I think cutting fabric is hard, and Clover makes it easier.

(More customer reviews)I've used both a Cricut cutter and the Pazzles Inspiration Electronic Cutter, and the Pazzles Inspiration wins, hands down. You don't have to buy expensive cartridges with the Inspiration, and the software is far superior.
The only drawback I've discovered so far is that the Inspiration cutting mats are slightly more expensive. I think the extra few dollars are worth paying--however, I'm tempted to purchase a Cricut mat just to see if it works in the Inspiration. Essentially they're both 12"x12" mats, coated with a sticky surface film.
When I first got my Inspiration, I set the cutting blade too deep for card stock and ended up scarring the mat, but I was still able to use it.
The Inspiration users' manual suggests using a lint roller to clean the mat, and this really works! When new, the mat is very, very sticky so you really have to know how to clean it, and also how to pry delicate cuttings away from the surface. I use an X-acto knife for the latter operation.

(More customer reviews)Even after the stickiness is long gone, these are great for craft projects, especially using Xacto knifes & glues, etc. They also keep beads from rolling around. They last longer if you wipe them down with a wet wipe after each use to remove the dust & paper bits. I love these mats!

Making Memories Slice Glass Cutting Mat, 12-Inch-by-12 Inch Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for use with my Slice machine but I was happy to find out that it's going to be great for all my other crafts, as well. It's very durable and heavy (won't break under pressure) and perfectly smooth to the touch (the grid is printed under the glass surface) so it's easy to clean. It's also stable- four non-slid feet under the mat keeps it from sliding all over your workspace.
I have been wanting a large glass mat for a long time for crafts and this is perfect. Even f you don't have a Slice machine, if you are looking for a gridded 12x12 mat for your projects, this is a great choice.

Fiskars 95217097 45 mm Rotary Cutter Review

(More customer reviews)I had the opportunity to try the Olfa and the Fiskar rotary cutters from a friend who had both. After trying them for about 15 minutes, I decided I preferred the Fiskar cutter. The Olfa was okay and worked well, but the Fiskar cutter felt better ergonomically. The Fiskar handle was curved, sturdier with a better grip. I don't care for the straight cutters. Another friend also preferred the Fiskar cutter. We all decided Fiskar cutter was the best ergonomically, but will probably buy the Olfa blades. I hope this helps for those who may be on the border between the two. I rate it 4 stars because the blade is better on the Olfa.

Cricut 29-0270 12-by-24-Inch Adhesive Cutting Mat, Set of 2 Review

(More customer reviews)When you buy the expression machine - it doesn't come with this sized mat! You're reading this right, it DOES NOT INCLUDE a 12x24 MAT! Which is annoying because you need this mat to do projects larger than 12". This isn't an every day mat, this is really best used for projects over 12" (especially for the price point)
Couple of things to keep in mind -
Make sure you adjust the blade depth that's appropriate for the material you're cutting - example, don't use a 6 for vellum. This will cut into your mat, and will ruin your mat. It seems like that is the quickest cause of mat destruction.
Don't leave your material on the mat for ages - it may actually keep your material STUCK on the mat (oops)
Keep the plastic protector on the mat when you're not using it
You can flip the mat around to use it - (the arrow doesn't have to point at the machine, when your mat is not sticky, flip the arrow to face you.
Another tip i've heard - wipe the mat with some water to make it tacky again
LASTLY!!!! These mats are kinda pricy, because you NEED it to use the machine - so keep checking your local ads for their 40% (or 50% if you're lucky) coupons to get these mats.

(More customer reviews)I always have backup Cricut products on hand and Amazon has the best selection of items, in stock & the best prices. These mats are sometimes hard to find in stores and I received mine in a few days (I have the Prime membership though).
You can wash and dry the ones you have and alternate using 2-3 mats to keep them in use alot longer. You can also make them less sticky by placing a clean white t-shirt over them to reduce some of the stick that can tear lightweight paper or vellum.
