THIS RICE COOKER IS IT!! We have thrown every type of oats, grits, brown rice, brown rice/lentil medley, non-gluten cereal, Wheatena in this pot with the right amount of water from the package directions on the rice setting. It makes a perfect porridge every time without burning. You can even set it to have it ready for breakfast when you wake up in the morning.

...but this may be the worst coffee maker ever designed. I've cleaned up my last overflow and am heading out to replace it. Yes, it looks great, and when it works, it makes good coffee. I was even willing to put up with the difficult water reservoir and the hard-to-read water gauge, but there is a problem with the design of the small flaps in the lid and the coffee ends up everywhere but in the pot. And today the small plastic tab that makes it possible to open the lid broke off. Could anything more go wrong with this design?

Have a model 963 in white. The replacement carafe isn't *quite* the same--the handle is slightly different and it's a bit larger, so that the original lid doesn't snap in firmly. Make sure you keep your lid, as this one does NOT come with the lid! All in all, a good replacement. I am pleased.

Krups 026-33 Gold Tone Coffee Filter Review

Krups 026-33 Gold Tone Coffee Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We had to go back to paper filters while our coffee pot and Krups gold filter were in storage during a move. So I had a chance to compare, again, the gold filter versus the paper cones. Here are my observations:
1. It is a pain to remember to buy filters, and sometimes the grocery store is out of stock. I like the brown unbleached filters and those are not always available.
2. If you use this gold-coated filter, you should NOT grind your coffee too fine. (We grind our own in a small electric mill.) The filter allows somewhat more sediment through than the paper variety. I don't like finding even a small amount of sludge at the bottom of my mug. A careful grind does take care of this problem, however.
4. Despite the fact that gold is relatively inert and stainless, it doesn't hurt to rub down the filter and plastic with a paste of baking soda and water, once a week. This removes any bad-tasting residue that can accumulate.
All in all, when we unpacked our filter and started using it again, I was very happy. It saves paper, money and time. I recommend it if you have a cone-filter type coffee pot.

Save you pennies, and the environment by using this permanent filter. You won't need to remember to buy paper filters and you won't be adding to the landfill problem. Simply wash and reuse, time after time.

Krups C75 BeerTender Home Beer-Tap System with Heineken DraughtKeg Technology Review

Krups C75 BeerTender Home Beer-Tap System with Heineken DraughtKeg Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently bought the C75 Beertender as we prepare for the fall football season and we love it- here's why.
*Heineken is the beer of choice in our house, so when we saw the mini draught kegs in the grocery store, we knew this would be a nice alternative to the bottles and cans we normally buy for our gatherings.
*I am a big a fan of Krups products; I've always used a Krups coffee maker; I can't live without the pannini grill and recently purchased the fully automatic espresso machine- which we love. When I saw the Beertender, I knew we had to have one in our house.
*We have beer on tap all the time! Does it get any better then that? The beer stays at the perfect temperature, it doesn't take up any room in our refrigerator and it tells us when the keg needs to be replaced, if we exceed the 30 day freshness period. (So far we have drained the kegs before that date happens but we have come close)
I'm thinking this will be a great present for all the beer lovers in our families.

Sleek looking and deceptively easy to operate, this innovative countertop beer-draughting system offers an impressive way to serve up perfectly chilled, pub-style beer from the comfort of home. The unit works with either a 5-liter Heineken DraughtKeg or a 5-liter Heineken Premium Light DraughtKeg (both sold separately), and it uses Heineken DraughtKeg patented carbonator pressure technology to create the perfect glass with that well-loved head of foam every time. To insert the keg, simply snap on a disposable DraughtKeg tube, place the Heineken DraughtKeg into the machine, position the keg's plastic tube into the spout, and close the lid. When it's time to serve, simply hold a glass underneath the spout and pull the handle forward, tilting the glass at a 45-degree angle and adjusting upright as the glass fills. Then relax after work with the cold beverage or raise a toast with friends to mark the occasion. The unit's patented silent cooling system keeps the beer chilled at an ideal serving temperature of 38 degrees F, plus it automatically pressurizes the keg and releases Co2 each time the tap opens, ensuring crisp, fresh beer for up to 30 days--perfect for serving up the crowd-pleasing brew from one party to the next. Other highlights include an LED display with temperature and volume indicators, a removable drip tray, and easy-to-clean detachable parts. Ten disposable DraughtKeg tubes come included. Ideal for poker nights, football parties with friends, and other fun events, the home beer-tap system measures 19-1/2 by 18 by 12 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

I heartily agree with all of the other reviewers of this item. I've purchased several of these lids over the years, and each time, no matter how careful I was, the three little tabs that are supposed to hold the lid to the carafe when you pour always broke off almost immediately. If your lid is broken, just live with it and don't waste your money on a new one. You can't win with this product. Krups should be ashamed to sell this.

Krups FME2 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, White Review

Krups FME2 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Noodles' review is just about exactly what I was going to write. Our old ProAroma was a better machine. It's hard to believe anyone at Krups would think it was an improvement to lock out all controls except "off" when the machine is on program mode. You want to change the program? Set the program "off" time longer? You have to turn it off to do that. Then, when you turn it back on to keep the coffee warm, it thinks you want to brew a new pot, and starts an "empty reservoir" alarm. The automatic start program doesn't cancel after it runs, it stays on. Uhhh... Krups? It's obvious that I would have to actively tend to the machine - like add a filter? Coffee? Water? before it makes coffee again. Wouldn't it make sense to assume that I would be capable of setting the program again at that time? Krups thinks you should be forced to remember to turn the program off (not possible when it's still warming the carafe!) if you don't want to use it. If you forget LATER, after the program time has run it's course, it starts the "empty reservoir" alarm nice and early Saturday morning. Our ProAroma was completely programmable any time - and it had more features. This machine is definitely a step down. Oh, wait - I forgot - the carafe has a lid that won't come off, won't open far enough to stay open by itself, and stained brown in a month. How am I supposed to fit this in the dishwasher - with the lid closed? I guess so. I wish the old carafe with the snap-on, snap-off lid would fit this thing. OK, so I got it for $60, much cheaper than the last few (non e-bay) ProAromas would have cost me. But I feel bad that I didn't just spend $20 on Mr. Coffee. I think this machine was not only built in China, it was designed there by someone who had never laid hands on a ProAroma. Coffee is fine, but so is it when I boil water in a kettle and pour it over the grounds in a Melitta filter...this is just handier. The machine feels sturdy, not cheap. My gripe is in the programming. Oh, yeah, I forgot - they moved the electronics back under the heating element, where coffee and water get spilled on it. Not up high like the ProAroma's.

Krups FDD912 Expert Waffle Maker with Rotary System Review

Krups FDD912 Expert Waffle Maker with Rotary System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently stayed in a Seattle hotel whose brunch buffet featured a do it yourself waffle bar. The professional waffle maker featured a rotary system that intrigued me--you poured in your batter, rotated the cooking plates, and when the light came on, rotated it back and removed your waffle. This rotary gizmo seemed to make the waffles cook very evenly and crisply.
I set off on a quest to find my OWN rotary waffle maker. I purchased this Krups waffle maker and have been very happy with it. While not quite as heavy duty as the restaurant version I used in Seattle, this is a FINE waffle maker. Here are some of its features:
1) Very well made. Very solid. All parts fit precisely. It has a heavy, durable quality that makes me think it will last me the rest of my life.
2) Easy to clean. The cooking plates remove for easy cleaning. The drip pan snaps in and out very easily and keeps batter from oozing onto your counter.
3) Fun and easy to use. Your brunch guests will be wowed as they watch you rotate your waffle maker! It really does a superior job at making waffles. All the recipes I've tried so far have come out great (even the recipes in the owner's manual--more on that later).
Note that the editor's comments concerning the lights are not quite correct. There are two lights on the top of the unit. One glows red while it is heating, and the other light glows green when the unit is ready to use. The light does NOT come on when the waffle is finished cooking, which makes sense because while the waffle is cooking, the lights are ON THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT WHERE YOU CAN'T SEE THEM! However, it doesn't take long to figure out how long to cook the waffles after a test one turns out too brown or too light.
4) Easy to store. The handle folds up so you can pop this into a cabinet.
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is the owner's manual. Maybe it's a translation problem (I assume the original was in German), but the recipes are bizarre.
First of all, American cooks will be disconcerted by the fact that amounts of flour, sugar, butter, etc., are given by weight, not volume (grams, not cups). But anyone with a kitchen scale can adjust to that. But there are other problems.
One of the recipes doesn't give a quantity for salt, it just says "add salt."
Another recipe doesn't give a quantity for sugar, butter, or flour, just says "add same weight as eggs." I weighed the five eggs (255 grams) and added that much sugar, butter, and flour. The recipe thus contained about two cups flour, two cups sugar, and two cups butter with no other liquid than the five eggs. Made kind of a thick, gritty batter that looked more like cake batter than waffle batter. The waffles cooked perfectly, but boy were they strange!! Kind of gritty from all that sugar. I hate to think how many calories they contained!

Krups GVX Burr Grinder Review

Krups GVX Burr Grinder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say that I am NOT a coffee connoisseur (heresy, I know). Just a guy with a drip machine and a need for much morning brew. I wanted to grind my own because I hate the flavored coffee taste that I always seem to get from the grocery store grinder. I'm also busy and lazy.
I really like this grinder; and I like it for the same reasons that the guy from Hawaii hated it. I want to spend my morning drinking coffee, not preparing it (one cup at a time? - yeah, right). Pour the beans in (no more measuring), push the button, and before you can fill the maker with water, you have just the right amount of grind ready to go. Yes, there's a little sticking to the plastic container, but I've never had it cause any mess - just tap it on the sink before you remove the lid then pour it into the filter. Grind size and quantity takes a couple of attempts to figure out exactly what you like, but seems pretty consistent once set. Only gave it 4 stars because there are features on the more expensive units that would be nice - a BIG, sealed, hopper that would hold several days worth of beans; and glass grind containers that would completely eliminate the static issue. However, for my use, and for the price, this thing works great. Hope it holds up over time.

This waffle iron does a great job with waffles. The problem is that it is very hard to clean. There are to many small clearances around the waffle iron for waffle mix to cake up if the waffle iron runs over. There isn't an adequate drip edge to catch the over flow.
I am going to try the Villaware with the removeable grids. I put whole blue berries into to my waffle batter, and this also requires additional clean up that would be easier if I can remove the grids and put them in a dish pan.

Capresso 114.01 Espresso Classic Black Review

Capresso 114.01 Espresso Classic Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a Capresso 114.01 espresso machine via Amazon in December of 2005. I had selected it in part, because of the high "bar" pressure rating. Upon receiving it, the first shot of espresso took several minutes to make. The coffee just drips out one drop at a time. The manual suggests "using a coarser grind than other espresso machines". I tried progressively coarser grinds until I was at the coarsest setting of my burr gringer...the coffee was getting weaker, and coming out a little faster, but still taking many minutes for one shot of espresso, with a weak and bitter result and no crema. The manual suggests tamping the coffee ever so lightly. Good suggestion, because if you tamp it with more than a feather's weight of pressure, you get no coffee flow at all. I called Capresso technical support numerous times. They suggested disassembling the machine--unscrewing the metal screen on the body of the machine where the water comes through-- and cleaning it. I did this to no avail. Besides, one shouldn't need to service a machine that is less than a month old in this way! After two months of frustrating, hit-and-miss results, I returned the machine to Amazon. Because it's after the 30 day return period, I may not get a full refund, but I'm glad to be rid of that piece of junk. I have since purchased a $180 Krups XP 4000 espresso machine that just works beautifully, with any grind of coffee (even very fine), any tamping pressure (even quite firm), the machine produces 2 shots of espresso in 25 seconds flat with tons of crema. What a relief!
