Continental Electric CE23589 4 Cup Coffee Maker-black Review

(More customer reviews)This is basically the same brewer as the Elite Quisine 4 cup brewer which you can buy here at Amazon. The same manufacturer must make both for different companies. One says "Elite" and the other says "Continental" but they are clones. Both are so inexpensive I got one of each, in case I need a spare. As inexpensive as they are, I don't know how long they will last. This one seems to have a slightly lower brewing temperature than the Elite Quisine and the caraf doesn't have calibrations for the amount of coffee that the Elite has. This one is also a lot cheaper. I paid only $12.00 and now it is down to $9 and change. The Elite is 19.95.
My only real criticism of this one is that the brewing temperature could be hotter, as the other brewer is. I measured the temperature in the pot on this at 179 degrees Farenheit but that is after the water soaks through the beans and drips through the air about 6 inches. The Elite temps out at 185 in the pot. It tastes hotter too.
If you buy this one, or the other for that matter, I would recommend one of those double walled Bodum mugs you can get at Starbucks (don't have those shipped or they will arrive broken half of the time.) This will keep your coffee warmer longer but I wouldn't take to long to drink it lest it not be hot enough for you.

Troy-Bilt TB20CS 17-Inch 31cc 2-Cycle Gas-Powered Curved Shaft String Trimmer with Detachable Shaft Review

(More customer reviews)If you are in the market for an entry level ( $120 or less ) gas powered string trimmer, the Troy Bilt TB20CS has to be at the top of your list.
After much research, I chose this item over all the rest. My reasoning was as follows :

1). The TB20CS receives the most 4 and 5 star ratings of any entry level trimmer, both here as well as other review web sites.

2). It has a 31 CC engine, as opposed to 25 CC engines found on many of the competitive trimmers. That's 22% more power capacity.

3). It uses .095 trimmer cord, which takes a heavier beating than the thinner cord in some of the competition.

4). This baby has a clutch. Some of the competition does not bother with this, I prefer that my cutting line comes to a stop when I feather the throttle back to idle.

5). I like the split shaft that allows me the option to use other tools.
6). Standard dual line bump head spool provides twice the cutting action as some of the single line competitors.

7). It includes the Speedlock fixed line spool for no added charge.

8). Cost : $99.96 at Lowes. Also $99 at Troy.com, but be careful of shipping charges.

A special note to anyone using 2 cycle engine driven tools :

You will note a lot of folk downgrade these items due to either poor starting or poor running characteristics at speed. I suspect these folks have failed to follow one or more guidelines for use of 2 cycle equipment :

A). Follow the manufacturer's recommended procedure for starting. They are the ones most familiar with their product. ALWAYS hold the throttle open 1/4 of the way when using full and half choke.

B). Never use old gas. That stuff you mixed up last year will cause you big trouble this year. My rule of thumb is to replace gas once it gets to be 3 months old ( with or without a gas stabilizer ).

C). Always mix oil and gas to the manufacturers specification. If it calls for 40:1, do not mix 30:1. That will cause starting as well as running problems.

D). When finished with a session, pour the gas from the trimmer back into the gas can. Start the trimmer and run 'er dry.

I used my TB20CS for an hour today with great results. Never ran engine above 50% throttle cutting grass 18 to 24 inches tall. Had to line feed only three times during the hour after hitting something really BIG in the grass. That .095 cord zipped through some heavy twigs as well as cactus without snapping.

My only negative is that my forearm started to ache after that hour. But then again, the TB20CS is not a light weight. A sling may be in order if I plan on extended use.

(More customer reviews)I have never used a printing calculator before, so I do not know how to use many of the features/buttons on this one, despite my background in computer programming and in data entry. So, while it has taken a few minutes to adjust to the adding positive numbers and negative numbers, this device seems to work very well. This is my problem with it:
The calander set and clock set directions do not work. I cannot change the date nor the time. Additionally, the instructions include nothing beyond the basic adding and subtracting functions. There is nothing written about using the "=" key instead of the "*" key. Nor, even more aggrivating, is there anything about using the upper functions on keys; that is, the "Format" feature above the "-" key.
If this calculator had a better instruction manual, or at least a manual online, I would give it a better rating.

This steam press makes my life a lot easier. I can press both sides of an item at one time. I can put a crease in that lasts all day.
It takes some time to get used to putting items on the press. I don't really use the steam much, but I use the squirt bottle all the time. Sometimes I placed an item so it developed a crease somewhere I didn't want it. Just squirt and repress.
Unlike regular ironing where you work on a small portion at a time, this does half a shirt or a whole pants leg at a time. Proper placement and smoothing it out before pressing is VERY important or else you repeat.
I usually count to about 8 and it is done.
Most shirts take four presses of 8 seconds each. Half the shirt twice and the sleeves. Pants, hmm, I am still working on the alignment thing. Usually I am pressing the pants flat, meaning seam to seam, then folding to put the crease down the leg.
You will burn yourself. My boyfriend gave me cut resistant gloves and cut the finger tips out on the palm side to help me do the alignment thing. It opens like a clamshell. The front side is about 10" open and the back end is only about 2-3" open. It is very easy to bump the top with your hand, which is the heated part, in the process of lying clothes on it. I also wear long sleeves. AND pants or shorts. It sits about four inches lower than my fully raised ironing board since I also got the stand. Perfect for sitting, While standing, well, I am tall so it is right at my crouch level. I haven't experienced it but I heard a man who stated that he accidentally caught his "stuff" in it. So, I don't use it naked.

(More customer reviews)Halleluia! When my Bissell Steam Mop finally 'died' and I found out they didn't make them anymore I was devastated. The only place I found to buy them was ebay at a whopping $250! Anyway, I searched online for other models and read all their reviews. None of the reviews for other products sounded any where near the quality and hard work of my old Bissell. I saw this model (The Steamboy) and it looked similar to the Bissell, however - nobody had written a review, so I was a little skeptical.
I'm here to tell ya - this product is as good or, dare I say, even better - than the Bissell for several reasons: 1. it is lighter weight (but not flimsy) so my arms don't get tired 2. the head pivots easier and it is triangular in shape so it gets into the nasty corners under my kitchen counters and behind my toilets even better 3. the pads are easier to put on than the Bissell and the draw string to tighten them on is longer and therefore easier to work with and lastly 4. it has a carry handle and doesn't fall over when standing upright as my old Bissell did. Cons are 1. you have to make sure that the tank is all the way in or it is a little drippy 2. the cord could be longer, but I can't remember the Bissell's being any longer than this one.
So, if you want to replace your Bissell or give one as a gift this is definately an affordable option. If you've never used a steam mop, you will be amazed - and disgusted - by how clean your floors get and realize how dirty they REALLY were all those years when you used the ol' mop and bucket. This is faster too and requires no chemicals to clean!

I have played around with this so many times thinking that "maybe this time it will work" but it hasn't. I tried contacting Singer and got back a standard email that did not have anything to do with my question. Also, the instruction book that claims to be easy to read, explains things in a difficult manner, and the pictures that go along with it are no help. Therefore, I give up, and am taking it back.

Brother XL3500T 73 Stitch Function Free Arm Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I love this machine. Brother has made a solid, well built machine. It is mostly plastic on the body, but feels well built and sturdy. It is heavy feeling and doesnt feel cheap at all.
Threading it to start with was super simple but the automatic needle threader took some getting used to because I'd never seen one before. Now, that I have gotten use to it though, I can thread the sewing machine, start to finish in 10-15 seconds. Amazing.
I really love the drop in bobbin. It has a little plastic window so you can see the bobbin, use the plastic bobbins as well and you can keep an eye on your bobbin thead levels easily. Using metal bobbins blocks the view of the thread, but that is no fault of the machines.
Plenty of stitch options are included. Numerous bits and pieces are included but I have yet to need them. I use the extension Table extensively as I am a quilter and it comes loose pretty easily, unfortanately.
But all in all, that is my only real complaint. It runs quietly and pretty damn fast for my taste.
Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Janome 712T Treadle Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)okay, i think this is my first review of a product ever! but when i was looking around for sewing machines i found it very frustrating that there were not any reviews on some things so i thought that i would do my part =D
first of all, this machine is amazing!! before purchasing this, i was using an older White machine and it was electric...i was always having problems with the bobbin and threading and it not working etc. i have no had one problem since i first started using this machine (about 2 months ago now). i do need to add that this machine sees daily use...we cloth diaper in our family and i have been making an entire stash for my son and my soon to be daughter. this machine can sew through multiple layers of fabric (thick fabric) without a problem!
my favorites:
-no electricity needed for this machine to work
-super easy to thread
-the most amazing bobbin system i have ever used (SO easy)
-very strong, sturdy machine
this machine is mostly metal which is hard to come by now a days...there are some plastic parts but the pieces that matter are metal...i bought an old treadle sewing cabinet off of craigslist for about $40 and this fit into it just fine....i bought a singer sewing cabinet
you will need to purchase a belt separately and they are about $12, you can just google treadle belts and various sites will pop up, they are a standard length and you cut them down to size according to your cabinet and machine.
you wont regret this purchase!!

Brother XL3510 72-Stitch Function Free-Arm Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)Though the Brother XL-3510 wasn't my first choice in a machine (purchased out of a limited selection from an online retailer using a "store credit only" return policy, even for defective machines), after a marathon weekend of sewing medieval garb, I have found this to be a solid machine that handles a wide range of projects effectively and efficiently. With a drop in bobbin (SA156 is the Brother part number--same as their sewing/embroidery machines) that is oriented a little too much towards the right handed (I'm a left handed person), it's much easier to manage than the Europro I returned to the online retailer that uses a steel bobbin and bobbin case from the side. Threading is easy as well, though left handed people will have problems for a few times until you get used to the nuances of the threading. There are about 3 or 4 places that I found the machine difficult to manage as a left handed person. Sadly, as strong as Brother is, for both the industrial and home sewing markets, they have forgotten that both left handed and right handed people use the machines!!
I really like the way the stitch selector dial works. Just like a shift key on a computer, you just put the outer dial on the red SS1 for the red row of stitches or the green SS2 for the green row of stitches--it's very user friendly. Normal stitches are neither red nor green--for things like straight or zig zag. Everyday stuff like back-stitching is easy (easier than many models) and the machine doen't balk at you when you want to go through a few thicknesses of fabric like pleats. As with any machine, you might have to coax it a little by a tug or two on a stubborn section through the feeders, but I've never known a machine that always could feed anything without a little help now and again.
All in all, thie machine passes the test. It works very nicely and should be a great addition to anyone's sewing room. I'm not an expert seamstress, but I've sewn to some degree since I was six and used many many machines along the way. This machine was a good buy--but for the future I will ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT before buying ANY MACHINE--it really DOES MATTER WHO YOU BUY FROM AND WHAT THE RETURN POLICY IS.
READ THE RETURN POLICY--EVERY WORD--BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING--THIS IS EXTRA IMPORTANT FOR SEWING MACHINES.

(More customer reviews)I have had this machine for years! I paid a lot more for it than Amazon is offering. So the price is just not an issue here. The main advantage of this machine is 1) It is Singer (the name says it all); 2) It has an automatic thread tension control (an invaluable feature for novices!); 3) It has 17 stitches (even the one for sewing on buttons, embroidery, and monogram); 4) It is very easy to operate, as a very detailed and easy to comprehend user manual is included; and 5) It is light-weight, compared to those bulky Kenmore and Bernina machines, it is is just a baby!
I would definitely recommend this machine to novices (especially for such a price) it is easy and cute, too.
