(More customer reviews)Firstly let me tell you why all the others suck : I had a fancy Cuisinart for 2 months with the removable heating plates and ended up throwing it way. They are made into "sandwhich shapes" for whatever reason and are supposedly dishwasher safe - NONSENSE . The problem here is that they are impossible to clean. I think the "crinkle cut" ones are also going to be super hard to keep clean. Everything sticks to them - so you have to be very aggressive when you remove your sandwich especially since everything is unbelievably hot and you have starving kids plucking at you. FRUSTRATING.
The West Bend on the other hand is flat. Just use a spatula and the sandwhich pops off. No need to use butter or Pam. Wait for it to cool and then wipe with a damp paper towel. I think the big thing is to not scratch the non stick surface - and the fact that this one is flat makes a big difference. It also has plenty of heat to warm everything up all the way through without having to burn the bread. No temp controls - really don't miss them.There is an indicator to tell you when the press is at temperature. All you need.
Very nice product - very nice price. I was prepared to spend up to $300 and I just got this. Very very happy! If all you want is a really good (small - or should that be compact ) toasted sandwich maker (2 max ) - stop here and just buy it.
Yes it won't do nice grill marks on chicken or on your sandwiches - but who cares.
It also has ridges all round the bottom - so the fat/chess etc doesn't run out and onto the counter - most of the others just let it ooze out the front .. (if you are lucky )

(More customer reviews)I recieved this item as a gift from my neighbors. It was a true gift because I would not have purchased something like this for myself. I eventually found many uses for this little electric grill. As mentioned in the editorial review above, this grill is useful for batter based foods as well as for making sandwiches. Because we prefer hot cake, I have found it very useful for making small snack cakes. Using a standard cake mix with ordinary preparation, the bottom half of the griddle can be filled with batter. The batter will expand to fill the top as it cooks. The additional batter can be refrigerated for use the next day. The same is true of corn bread, pancake mix, browny mix, etc. The best part is the fact that the cakes will cook in just a few minutes. Pre-heating takes only 3-5 mins, and cooking about 4-8 depending on what you are working with, considerable less than the time to bake in a full size oven. This unit is also a welcome addition to the arsenal when battling toddler pickyness. Small portions of various items can be quickly prepared with out heating a full size oven. The way that it seals the bread at the seems when making sandwiches makes it useful for making healthy homemade "hot pockets" for lunches, as you control the ingredients and leave the preservatives at the store. Cresent roll dough can be stretched, doubled-over and filled. Although they are somewhat atypically shaped you get perfect omlets every time, without flipping. Simply chop/shread cheese or vegies add to scrambled eggs and fill the bottom. Although this grill has an easy to clean non-stick surface, I found it useful to wipe with an oiled cloth prior to cooking, PAM or a similar product would also work well. The effort I save putting together quick healthy lunches and snacks using this device, I have transfered to planning and preparing more elaborate meals in the evening, or entertaining.

In 100 seconds you can pop off a soft pizzelle, and either lay it on a rack to harden or drape over a custard cup for a shaped one. Recipe is tasty and easy to vary. Only needs one change in the recipe book--tell people that these cookies harden after they're baked--within 10 seconds actually. Everyone love the results with this cooker.

(More customer reviews)I had a horrible experience with GT 101 Express company, and I am so glad Amazon is not selling this junk product anymore. I tried to order the item directly from the company and when I found out how outrageous the shipping cost was, I canceled the order. Three weeks later, I received six of these items and were charged over $200 without my permission. When I called the customer service at GT Express, the customer service people told me that I had to pay for the shipping of six items back to the company even though I never ordered these items. I told them this was illegal on their part, and they told me to sue them if I wanted to. What an awful service! Instead of sending all, I decided to use one to maybe save the shipping cost. What a big mistake.
The item is very small. The cooking surface is equivalent to a size of a slice of bread cut into two pieces. It seemed to look so much bigger on TV infomercial. Maybe the people on the infomercial are tiny people to make the item look bigger. Believe me when I say this thing is tiny.
Furthermore, the thing is made out cheap plastic. Even the non stick portion is merely painted black coating. After a few wipes, the black painted coating came off and everything stuck. The thing is a piece of junk and I regret the fact I ever dealt with GT Express.
I had the worst experience with this product and to top it off, I had a horrible experience with the GT Express customer service.

Diablo Stovetop Toasted Sandwich Snack Maker Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this, as 30 years ago my mother had a stovetop sandwich maker and she used to always make us kids, hot peanut butter sandwiches in the Winter time. The one she had came from her mother or grandmother and it was solid steel. This Diablo sandwich maker is not as solid but it is does have a non-stick coating, so butter on the outside of the sandwiches is not needed (unless there is a concern about burning bread). My 2 biggest complaints would be that the size could have been a little bigger (good size for square breads). For larger size bread, the Diablo cuts the edges off upon closing. The 2nd complaint is that Diablo is imprinted on every sandwich. I perfer no advertizing on my sandwiches. Overall it works fine and so far no cooking problems.

I just tried it and liked it so much I ordered two more here for gifts.
It makes two. One egg, one lean piece of Canadian Bacon and one English Muffin with no butter or grease and I think it qualifies as healthy! The best Canadian Bacon for this comes from Costco. Have fun.

After about a month of use, we discovered the coating must not be that high of quality on the plates. I had major peeling off on the grill plates while making a panini. I contacted Koolatron and they sent replacement plates after I emailed them a copy of my receipt. However the replacement plates peeled again after a couple uses. Then the grand finale, THE MACHINE DIED ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. Piece of junk.

Breville BSG520XL Panini Duo 1500-Watt Nonstick Panini Press Review

(More customer reviews)The immediate comparison I made when I received this Panini press was to the Cuisinart GR-3 Griddler Jr, Brushed Stainless Steel, and the key difference between the two products (and the reason I'm giving the better constructed, perhaps even better performing press three stars rather than five) is you can remove the plates in the Cuisinart, and you cannot in the Breville. Convenience and ease of use are central considerations when it comes to just how much you're going to want to use these 'extra' kitchen devices, and if it's a headache to clean something like burnt/stuck preserves, then you're going to be less likely to want to pull it out and use it again.
I want to back up a little bit, because I think Breville generally designs and manufactures outstanding high-quality but still affordable products. This press is no exception. Having used both this Breville and the aforementioned Cuisinart, I would give the Breville the edge on almost every single front. It feels more solidly constructed of higher quality materials, it seems to heat more evenly, although the Cuisinart does allow a range of temperature settings as opposed to Breville's one-temp-fits-all approach. I actually like having one flat and one grilled plate in the Breville, compared to the two grilled plates in the Cuisinart -- the flat surface providing a much more even and consistent heat that really radiates into the middle of the sandwich better than the more limited surface contact provided by just grill plates (but you still have the all-important texture and grill marks from the top plate). Both adapt to larger sandwiches. Both sport non-stick surfaces (although the Breville's is much smoother as the Cuisinart employs a grittier non-stick treatment). Both are perfectly sized for a couple good-sized sandwiches, without all the wasted space that comes with and from the larger models in each line.
I like this press enough that even as I wrap this review up I wonder if I should be giving it 4 stars rather than 3. Standing on its own, it deserves every bit of 4 stars. It's when it's held in contrast to a like-priced alternative like the Cuisinart that the Breville loses some of its luster, and then really only due to a question of pure convenience (in the form of removable plates).
If those removable plates aren't of particular importance to you, I actually recommend this press over the Cuisinart. For me, the convenience of cleaning the removable plates provide is what makes it an easy decision between the two when I want to grill a sandwich.

(More customer reviews)I watched the infomercial for months. It seemed simple and Cathy Mitchell seemed believable. By the time the commercial ended...I was anxious to own one. My little George Foreman finally gave way and as a Christmas present to myself I purchased one. The first meal I tried was pork chops and potatoes. Cathy always made it simple. Popped in the food, set the timer for 7 to 12 minutes and out comes a delicious meal. The potatoes never cooked well at all. After 15 minutes, the edges were fine but the middle still hard so I popped in the microwave and finished. Pork chops were my next attempt. Never seared as there was too much juice. I kept pouring it off and finally browned a bit but I could have cooked faster on the stove. So okay, not good for meats and potatoes. Eggs should work. For breakfast, I tried an omelet and bacon. Bacon steamed and did not crispin. Omelet cooked for 12 minutes and still the center was not cooked well. So I tried a flat bread pizza with pesto and cheese. The bread did crispin but the cheese hardly melted in the center. Took longer than the 7 minutes on the commercial. Tried a grilled pastrami and cheese sandwich. The bread browned, nearly burnt in the 7 minutes, only the edges of the cheese melted. The center was still cold, but if I cooked longer, then the bread would have burnt. My little George Foreman cooked so much better. I felt I gave the Express RediSetGo a good try. I e-mailed and told customer service I wanted to return it. They said I could return it for a replacement as mine might be defective or I could get a full-refund. However, I lose the shipping charges no matter what and that was $16.95. After reading the review by another consumer, I will not use their express return tag included in the package. Instead, I will mail with my own label and pay for signed delivery confirmation. I am saddened it did not work as seen on television. I was really looking forward to fast and easy meals when I'm on the go.

(More customer reviews)My boyfriend purchased this Sandwich maker from Big Lots for $7.99 I think as my Christmas present bcuz he knows I like to eat Grilled Cheese Sandwiches but not exactly know how to properly make it. I often burn the bread before the cheese is even melted. With the sandwich maker I can toast the bread and the cheese will be Ooey Gooey just the way I like it in less than 5 minutes. Also the creations are endless with the Sandwich maker. I actually made another favorite Cinnamon Caramel Apple Pies/Empanadas using the Sandwich Maker. All I did was get Wheat Bread, Canned Apple Pie Filling, Sprinkled Cinnamon and sugar on inside and outside of bread, and a Spoon full of Dulce De Leche *Caramel* inside. It took only about 5 minutes to make a Warm Toasty Apple Pie that went great with my Tall Cup of Milk. Whenever you're looking for a quick snack ? Turn to the Sandwich maker to help with that snack attack. You can make a quick quesadilla with corn torillas as well. Just fill it with cheese and a scoop of your favorite salsa and in the blink of an eye you have a quick snack. I L

DeLonghi CGH800-U Retro Panini Grill Review

(More customer reviews)But not necessarily this one. I bought this grill from Amazon in March. I use it alot, and even considered giving it 5 stars, but I have a couple of issues with it.
Compared to the other panini grills I have seen (Villaware, Krups, Wolfgang Puck), the DeLonghi has fewer, more widely spaced ribs. This design makes it easy to clean with a cloth, and no cleaning "comb" is provided. However, a drawback to the wide spacing is it can allow your panini to squish down into the valleys where all the oily stuff goes. You would be surprised how much oily goo a peperoni and mozzerella panini can make, especially if you brush the outside with olive oil, butter, or mayo before grilling like I do.
A minor annoyance: when it is stored upright on its back, it teeter totters on the lid's power cord. IMO, a high end appliance shouldn't have such a glaring design flaw.
Even though I like the DeLonghi alot, if I were buying another one, I would try the Villaware.

(More customer reviews)The product does exactly what it is billed to do: it grills sandwiches quickly. The problem is that the grill is very small, so normal grocery store bread is way too big and it hangs out the side. In addition, if you want to make a bigger sandwich, i.e., stacked with several ingredients, the lid will not close and lock without Herculean strength and the risk of burning yourself. It does OK with two small pieces of bread and a small amount of cheese. But, for that, it's just as easy to heat up a nonstick frying pan. It would be, however, handy for students in dorms or others with no access to a stove.
