I love this waffle iron! I've made waffles with it flawlessly, as well as small cakes (a recipe book comes with the waffler and includes this recipe). I even bought another one as a gift. I've had no problems with anything breaking or malfunctioning, and this iron is very simple to use. I get perfect flowers every time, and I've had this iron over 2 years.

In the summer, during strawberry season, I had borrowed one of these terrific machines from a friend at work. He had all of the attachments, so I was able to use the berry screen. I washed the berries, but left the hulls on to see what it would do. Well, I got perfect results when it hulled and de-seeded 9 quarts of strawberries in less than 1/2 hour. The cleanup wasn't much of a challenge when weighed against the amount of work and mess I would have made without it.
I made wonderful strawberry jelly with the juice and pulp, that I still get mention of when I see the people I gave some to. I had to get this machine so I can repeat last year's success without having to borrow my friend's machine again.

Despite the previous review I love this item. It makes crispy waffles with nice deep wells for syrup. It's pizzelle plate is perfect. In 100 seconds you can pop off a soft pizzelle, and either lay it on a rack to harden or drape over a custard cup for a shaped one. Recipe is tasty and easy to vary. Only needs one change in the recipe book--tell people that these cookies harden after they're baked--within 10 seconds actually. Everyone love the results with this cooker.

I had lusted after this little baby for some time and finally bought it when I found a great deal on it. It makes the most amazing sandwiches, which you can custom-tailor to your tastes. I also used it for a rolled flank steak, stuffed with mushrooms and cut into thick slices. Each slice cooked perfectly at medium heat, although like all steaks, it requires a watchful eye to prevent overcooking.
My experience with vegetables was similarly good. Peppers, onions, eggplant slices all cook in minutes with good result. I have not tried chicken breasts, but from reading the other reviews, imagine that the results will be similar.
One negative: fish can be a tricky business on this grill. I cooked an ahi steak for only a few minutes and it was overdone. I bought a stovetop grill pan specifically for fish after that (well, I confess I do throw a little bacon on it too from time to time).
I am quite satisfied with this panini grill, and love my homemade paninis. I found that a sliced kaiser or hoagie roll works well, as well as thickly sliced Italian or sourdough bread. My favorite sandwich?: thickly sliced bread, olive tapenade, roasted red pepper slices and sliced fontina. Who said heaven isn't right here?

The other reviews are correct, but no one warns you that these are not the normal 5" pizzelles as Amazon implies with it's "doubles as ice cream cones" bullet. These are 3" circles that are really too small for anything except tiny snacks. Curled into bowls they hold a bit over an ounce (30cc) so whatever dessert you make it'll be tiny. On the other hand they taste great and if you put a very small scoop of ice cream, 2 or three red raspberries (3 black raspberries wouldn't fit) and a bit of your favorite sauce, you've got a great thing. It would take at least 3-4 to satisfy the average guy, though. Unless there's some reason you want tiny, I'd go with the 5" pizzelles.

I love this pizzelle iron - it's fast, clean, and helps me make one mean pizzelle! I bought this for my husband for Valentine's Day (and yes, I did make the pizzelles for him - his favorite dessert!) and he's been asking for more pizzelles ever since! Another plus - the pizzelle sizes are big enough to make one scoop ice cream bowls - perfect for people like me who don't like a huge serving of dessert all at once (but who won't turn down a second serving if it was around..!) I would definitely buy this again!

VillaWare V5265-05 Power Meat Grinder Review

VillaWare V5265-05 Power Meat Grinder
Average Reviews:

While the VillaWare 5265-05 has an acceptable appearance and acceptable accessories, a serious deficiency is the plastic auger. Many competitive units have metal augers which are far more durable. After grinding partially frozen fish, shrimp, spinach and meat, the auger was seriously deformed and was unusable. This was after less than 2 hours use. I have tried to get replacement parts but the internet site seems to be hard to find. In the newer models, the plastic auger has been replaced with a metal auger. This is a MUST. I'm hoping that Villaware will replace the defective plastic auger as a warranty items since their replacement with a metal auger is an implicit acknowledgement that the original auger was not up to the job. With a metal auger, I would rate the unit 4-5 stars since other components are quite good. Chuck Jensen

If you have a preschooler, this would be the perfect breakfast/snack/dessert-making option for your family. If you have older kids or you're a kid at heart, you're going to go hungry.
In my case, I'm an adult Disney fan who has been searching for a Mickey waffle maker not unlike those used at the theme parks for a long time. When I was pointed to this product, I was beside myself with excitement for not only does it contain the visage of Mickey, but the rest of the Fab 5 as well. From the product image and description, I thought that the molds were in miniature but still large enough for a filling meal.
Much to my surprise, upon obtaining the box (much smaller than expected) and opening the iron, the molds are *super* small. No bigger than about a chicken nugget or a semi-large meatball. I decided to test it out and used the smallest batch recipe for waffles. The instructions that come with the iron aren't impressive but easy to read and it DOES give you cooking times for specific types of food (you can use just about any batter that pours with the iron). To make 6 waffles takes 4 minutes. To make enough to fill an adult or two took me close to 30 minutes in order to use up all the batter.
If I had a young child who doesn't eat much, this is an adorable treat. I think I'll use it more for bite-sized desserts, though perhaps just for special occasions since it's a lot of work. Easy, but time consuming. It comes with a scoop to making pouring batter easier, a brush to assist in cleaning, and the iron itself is easy to clean and well-made.
However, I'm still going to keep an eye out for a full-sized Mickey waffle maker. Had I known the molds were this small, I would have passed.

I bought this for my 23 year old daughter as a Christmas gift. This is a great kitchen appliance if you want to make pizelles. The recipe we used from the enclosed pamphlet was authentic to our Italian heritage. The pizelles were the proper size -- not the small medallion size some irons make. Highly recommended product.

My family loves it when I pull out the cavatelli maker. The included basic recipes are very easy, and kids love to help with this. It's surprisingly easy to use, and (to me, just as important) easy to clean. I can make cavatelli for six people for just pennies using this handy little machine.

This machine is for those who are mad for cavatelli, those shell-like noodles with a ridged surface that captures and holds the flavors of a sauce. Cavatelli may be made from simple egg dough or one with ricotta cheese added. To use this cavatelliatore, feed a strip of pasta dough into the machine and turn the handle; the machine does the rest. The rollers send the dough past a drum set with two tiny blades, which cut the dough into small pieces and press them against the drum's ridged lining; the charmingly seashell-patterned pasta falls from the other side.

I have the machine for just one week now & I guess for the price ( I paid $204 total) , you probably can't find a better one.
Looks great, makes good espresso with ok crema. I get about an 1/8" crema everytime. I'm not sure if thats ok or to little.
My two major complaints are
1) after you pulled your shot & shut the brewing switch off, about another 2 to 3 oz's of liquid still comes out of the portafilter. All of it goes into the drip tray after you remove your cup from underneath.
I thought it might have been just my machine, but I read a review somewhere else & they had the same problem.
2) The portafilter does not fit very snug into the holder, so when you knock out the grinds into the garbage, sometimes the you have to retrieve the filter. So just hold down the edge of the filter with your thumb when it cools and that should take care of this problem. Just do it with a cool rag if it's still hot.
One more thing) If your steaming milk, in order to get the milks temp up to 160 degrees, you may have to steam it till the temp light comes back on, then wait about 30 seconds till it goes off again and then steam it for a few more seconds.
So if you can live with the minor issues above and can't spend more than $200, this machine will make very good espresso's & capucino's

CucinaPro 178 Fresh Pasta Set Review

CucinaPro 178 Fresh Pasta Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was hesitant to buy this product based on the two negative, most up-voted reviews. One goes on about how crummy and unworkable the product is; the other talks about black and silver metal particles coming out of the device.
I purchased it anyway, based on the other reviews that haven't been voted up past the two negative reviews for some reason.
The bottom line is that the product is relatively inexpensive and it works.
I've encountered no metal particles in my pasta. The pasta can travel to the sides as you crank if you're not careful, but it does go through. The product does work. It appears to me to be solidly built. Its manufacture does not appear tinny or crummy.
The main body of the unit is designed to flatten your dough to the desired thickness. There are seven settings. You start with the most thick and work your pasta down to the desired level of thinness.
The other pieces are attachments that involve the second stage where you make the pasta the desired shape (fettuccine style, spaghetti style, etc.). You attach the unit by sliding it into grooves on the front of the main unit. You then attach the crank into a hole on the side of the attachment and turn it to work the pasta through. The attachments easily slide in and out but stay in place once attached.
So don't be scared. It works.
There are a few annoyances, however.
- The bottom support "pads" aren't pads at all, but pieces of hard white plastic. On smooth surfaces, the machine will slide during use if not held in place.
- The height of the crank is higher than the machine, so you will have to use the machine with the edge of it near the edge of a counter.
- When you put one of the attachments (to cut the pasta into the various kinds of pasta shapes) on the unit, the weight distribution isn't completely stable, and it can topple over if you're not careful. This really hasn't been much of a problem for me, though. It can topple, but generally doesn't.
- The crank is removable and does not lock in place. If you forget this fact, it can fall out on you if you move the unit and haven't taken out the crank.
And, lastly, some helpful advice as there may be other newbie pasta makers out there like myself.
Before using the unit, make sure you have enough room. You will need somewhere to lay out or hang your pasta.
There may be a reason why the "pads" on the main unit aren't sticky pads. As you crank the pasta out, you have the option to slide the unit so that the pasta can be flat when it comes out. Imagine feeding out a length of rope as you walk backwards. If you do that, the rope will form a relatively straight line. If you stay stationary, the rope will just fall in front of you, folding and coiling on itself.
Depending on the pasta recipe and thickness setting you use, your pasta may be brittle and break as it folds or may stick to itself when it remains in contact with itself for some time. So I think sliding the unit as you crank or having someone else around to gently grab the pasta and pull it forward can be a great help.
Manage your pasta-making in stages by portioning out the dough into small portions, so that the unprocessed pasta isn't sitting out, drying up, and becoming brittle and the pasta being processed doesn't have a chance to stick to itself once made because your attention is on managing your work space and dealing with finding a place for your pasta, moving it around gently, making sure the unprocessed pasta isn't getting too dry, etc.
My first few attempts at pasta making were a mess because I didn't do this. Pasta was everywhere, and my real-estate for working was dwindling rapidly. I painted myself in a corner.
Give yourself lots of time and room by making sure you have a large working area. Portion out the dough, keeping the portions you aren't processing in the fridge wrapped in saran wrap.
Also, depending on your recipe, the cooking time for the pasta may be very different from what you expect. I would work with really small portions at first, cooking experimentally and sampling often while boiling.
Fresh pasta cooking is different than cooking store bought stuff. Some kinds of fresh pasta take longer than you expect to get to the right mouth-feel, others take a lot less time.
The low price of this unit it makes it ideal for beginners like myself. I am sure there are other units that are better, but this one works for me at my current stage of culinary development. I figure three stars would be a fair rank in this regard.
Good luck and have fun!
