(More customer reviews)I purchased this coffee maker after too many days of being the family's late riser and finding the coffee pot already drained. I have been using this pot for a couple of months now, and I am more than pleased with my purchase. This pot does hold more than the standard 10- or 12-cup coffeemaker, a great feature in a family of coffee-drinkers.
I had hoped to find a coffee-maker with a removable water reservoir to carry back and forth to the sink, which this model does not have, but even so, I give this model five stars for the excellent coffee it makes. While I have to lift the coffee-maker down from the shelf on which I keep it in order to fill the reservoir, its internal clock remains accurate even when unplugged for the short while it takes to fill the reservoir.
Some folks here have complained about the beep signaling that the element is being turned off. Even after several cups of coffee, my nerves aren't so high-strung that I even give the sound a second thought. It's quite innocuous, IMHO.
Perhaps owing to the water filter, this pot makes excellent rich-tasting coffee. It seems to brew just long enough to make perfect coffee for most folks' tastes. For stronger coffee, I can make fewer cups and use more ground coffee. If I'm really in need of a strong cuppa, I'll simply use my French press. I have never had the ground coffee overflow the filter doing this. Also, the heating element seems set to the perfect temperature, since I have never had a cup of coffee from this pot that tasted burnt...and on a number of mornings, I have barely gotten up in time to hear the beep signaling the end of hot coffee.
Best features of this machine--absolutely drip-free pot, unrivaled pure coffee taste, large capacity pot, variable settings for when the heating element will turn off, and an internal clock that retains settings with short interruptions of power.
Improvements that could be made--I wish it had a removable reservoir, but the one pot that I have used that had that feature made the worst coffee I've ever made at home, not to mention the leaky pot.
If you're not looking for espresso, but just a clean, pure cup of good coffee...even when "Early Bird" isn't your middle name, I think you've found what you're looking for in this machine.

(More customer reviews)I've had this grill for a year. I use it anytime it is too cold to grill outside. It's great because you can cook different types and thicknesses of food at the same time or you can use only one side for small dinners. You can set each side with a different temperature and the top automatically adjusts to the thickness of the food. So thick meats on one side, vegies on the other. Turn off one side when done, food stays warm and you can continue cooking on the other side. To clean easily, I place a damp paper towel in the grill when I turn it off so the residue gets soft and I can wipe it when I'm ready. Really a great product.

What I like:
*The inside is nice, high quality stainless steel.
*When I use the timed standard cycle, the towels are dry and fluffy.
*The window allows my kitty to watch the spinning textiles.
*The interior light illuminates beautifully when you open the door and goes off a few seconds after you close the door. This is so nice. No sock is left behind!
*The large interior allows me to easily dry quilts, blankets and bedspreads.
What I don't like:
*The end cycle signal is SOOOO annoying!!!! When your dryer finishes it will beep, loudly
beep beep....beep beeep...
beep beep....beeep beeep
and then after a few minutes the drum is activated and starts your load tossing about for 20-30 seconds then stops and begins the whole annoying beeping sequence again...this goes on until you turn the bloody thing off.
I miss the old dryer system model that defaulted to 'off' at the end of a drying cycle, buzzed once and was done with it.
If you put a load of laundry in your dryer, right before bedtime...unless you are deaf or sleep with earplugs or have your laundry in the west wing of your large castle, you will be compelled to get up and silence that beeping beast!
*Lint filter sensitivity: the dryer will stop and start beeping at you midcycle until you check and empty the lint filter (which sometimes has hardly any lint in it). This is annoying. Again, I miss the old 70's dryers that just ran and ran until their cycle ended, regardless of their full, half full, or near empty filter.
*The moisture sensor cycles are another waste of energy in my opinion. I do not use this feature unless I want my laundry to be slightly damp at the conclusion of the drying cycle.
The moisture sensor cycles also beep beep in the noisy end of cycle pattern mentioned earlier. This hardly conserves energy in my opinion. It seems like they could have left this end of cycle siren and spin feature out of the schematic.Overall I am happy.
but:
It would be nice if we had an easy to access dial to adjust the loudness of the system signal.
I also wish we could push a button to turn on/off the moistere and lint sensor settings. This would keep our machine spinning regardless of the faulty sensors.
Alas, No more hanging towels like Wilma Flintstone, to dry over the tar pits!!! I like this dryer much more than the clothes line!

Bissell 1425A Little Green ProHeat Review

(More customer reviews)If you've read the majority of the reviews for this product you'll notice there is a consistent problem with the sprayer clogging and no longer working. Here's how to fix it. We originally bought the machine a year and a half ago and it quit spraying after only 2 uses. Bissell replaces it under warranty but the bad thing is that your "new" Little Green is only warranteed for the the rest of the time left on the original one you bought. Of course our replacement quit spraying as well until today when my husband figured out how to fix it. Get some liquid CLR Calcium Lime Rust Remover or Lime-Away product and pour straight into the clean water solution tank. Fill only to about 3/4 of an inch of the CLR in the tank, then turn on the Little Green and push the sprayer button. It will immediately begin spraying again. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then run the rest of the CLR through. Then run through a tank or two of clean water. The problem is the phosphates in your water that clog the sprayer line. This should get rid of the clogs. I would also follow the advice of running through some clean water before storing your Little Green. Other than the sprayer problem the Little Green is very effective at carpet stains and cleaning.

Krups GX4100 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder Review

(More customer reviews)The Krups Coffee/Spice Mill is a good value for the money. I use it primarily for grinding toasted seeds for Indian dishes (cardomman pods, cloves, cumin seed, peppercorns, coriander seed, mustard seed, chiles etc.). I read the reviews on how the plastic lid will 'cloud' from certain spices (e.g., cloves) and that doesn't matter to me. This grinder isn't a piece of artwork - it's a cooking tool. Where I used to spend 20 minutes with a hand-operated mill, the Krups does the same thing in about 5 seconds. It cleans up easily - it's all self-contained and there aren't any burrs to clean out - it's totally blade-operated. In a perfect world, it would grind more precisely (fine to coarse) - but that would require burrs and the cleaning associated with them. So for me and my needs, it's a good value for the money. The time I saved with the first usage more than pays for the machine.

I have tried to contact Kitchen-Aid for over a month, wrote 4 EM via the KitchenAid customer support Website, and beside their promise to answer within 3 business day, I have yet to hear from them.
I'm truly disappointed with their customer support and the RSVA.

What a deception!
Probably the worst shredder I ever used.
I purchase this product in the idea that KitchenAid was a good brand (by experience), but I must admit that I have the feeling that I paid $50 for a very, very poor shredder, which should be sold $15 maximum. A $7 Walmart hand shredder makes a better job.
I have the feeling that KitchenAid just ripped me off.
I'm a mechanical engineer and I love to cook, and I'm normally the type to buy one excellent knife instead of 2 poor ones, but this time, I was fooled.
So , let's review the product:
First of all, the cones are not stainless steel, but regular steel, badly chromed.
It means that, one day or another, they will rust.
How can you tell? Use a magnet, if it is not sticking, it's a 18/10 stainless steel. (18% Chrome + 10% Nickel, a TRUE Stainless Steel)
Try with your kitchenaid mixing bowl, and you'll see.
It also means that if you ever try to sharpen the slicing blades, you'll take off the chrome and it WILL rust very quickly.
I'm sorry, but a brand like Kitchenaid should AT LEAST, provides Stainless Steel cones. Especially at 50 bucks a piece. (and I suppose that's why it is stated HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY), not allowed to use regular steel in a restaurant)
The blades are either dull, unevenly sharpened, or not at all(sides). It mashes or puree very well, but the cuts are uneven and messy. I just wanted a slicer, not a musher.
The sharpening on (my) slicing cones is visibly uneven. one side slices, the other not.
The gap between the cones and the body is too big, food goes in, get pushed in by the dull cones to end up in a mess.
The cones rotate unevenly, off balance, which adds to the previous mess.
The length of the blades is smaller than the size of the spout. (the cutting length should be a least the size of the spout, not smaller )
In short: everything that goes is those corners is miserably mashed So, as a result, in my opinion: buy something else.
Add $20 and buy yourself something decent. Plus, the attachment is so bulky that a food processor will not take much space.
My grade on a 10 scale: 3
Probably the worst shredder I ever used.
And if you ever decide to buy one , please contact me , for $25, you'll have an almost brand new one.

The biggest problem that I have run into is that the power save feature turns off the scale while I am still adding chemicals to the weight dish. When you turn the scale back on, it zeros itself out. It slows me down alot. Other than that, it has worked fine so far. For the price, I'd say it's a good deal.

(More customer reviews)I've wanted a juicer for a long time, but could never really justify the expense, knowing that I'd very likely quickly tire of the maintenance involved. When I saw this juicer for under $25, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
When I opened the box, I was immediately impressed with the unit's solid construction. You can see right away that this isn't a plastic piece of junk that's going to break righ away.
With the unit's first use, I juiced: cabbage, kale, spinach, carrots, onions and peppers. The unit - while not as powerful as more expensive models, I'm sure - juiced up everything with no hesitation. I would describe the pulp to be damp, but not what I'd call really wet.
I dreaded the juicer clean-up process that I'd heard so much about. Disassembly of the unit is a breeze. There are basically three main parts to remove and it takes all of thirty-seconds. No problem.
If there's one thing I could change, it would be a better designed pulp-catcher that would allow a bag to be used. This is only a minor gripe and has in no way made me regret the purchase.
If you are a casual juicer, looking to get your feet wet without spending a ton of money, this would be a perfect choice. I'm still amazed that I got this for under $25 and I'd recommend it without hesitation.

Vita-Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500 Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned the Vita-Mix Super 5000 since 1997, and I love it. I can grind flour, make juice, soup, ice cream (the fruit smoothies I make with this are to die for)--in short, every kind of food processing you can imagine. This baby is built to last and has a 7-year warranty.
In 2004, a couple weeks after the 7 years were up, I was very upset when it broke down. I thought, "Isn't that just the way these things tend to go with warranties?" I searched for Vita-Mix on the web (the URL is their name, and there is a link on this page, to them, too). I clicked on the button for service, got their 800 number, and called them at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time, and they were there. The service rep was friendly and knowledgeable. She asked me to describe in detail the symptoms of my ailing Vita-Mix. She then said, when I asked about it, that even though I was past the window period to do so, the company would still allow me to buy a three-year extended warranty for $120. I jumped at that, and found out that I could use it to cover the parts (and shipping) to fix the problem. She said I needed an "assembly piece" that sold for $75 without a warranty, a "drive socket" worth $12.00 and the shipping of $9.95 would be no charge to me. She said she was including a small wrench and instructions and I can fix it myself. So right off the bat I used most of the $120 to fix my first problem.
I've never seen anything like this kind of service. When our tabletop water distiller broke, we had to send it in for warrantied repair, which cost $50 shipping (we paid), and weeks to get back. I think shipping the Vita-Mix to the company might have cost nearly that much, so I was delighted to have this option of getting the parts in 10 days to fix it myself and have my beloved Vita-Mix back working within a week and a half.
If you are ever in the market for a food processor that is professional quality that works great with amazing customer service, this is it. The price is very competitive for what you get, and the product itself is fabulous. (Only one tiny little caveat--which is true for =any= blender--wear earplugs when you do the very high speeds or you could hurt your ears.)
Update March 23, 2009: I've owned the Vita-Mix 12 years now, and I still love it! See my comment to this review with today's date which contains information on my experiences with the sales personnel of the Vita-Mix company today.

Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630 Review

(More customer reviews)We bought this humidifier to replace one that was purchased about six years ago, also a Honeywell model. That model had a two gallon tank and would shut off if the water ran out. Compared to that, this newer model has a relatively TINY tank, at perhaps a gallon or so. Since the unit is rated at 3 gallons per day output, that would mean quit a bit of refilling on very dry days. On our old unit, the tank had a handle on the underside (where the fill cap is) so that when you filled it, you had something to hold on to. Not so with the new unit. And to make matters even more difficult, the bottom of this new tank is not flat, so you can't just set it under the faucet and expect it to stay there.
The most annoying thing though is the absence of an automatic shutoff and indicator light when the water level gets too low. Because the tank is in the back of the unit, it is hard to see the water level. This thing will run and run and run without water, drying out the filter so you have to take it out an re-soak it again. While stylistically nicer, this units functionality is a real step down from previous generations of their humidifiers.

(More customer reviews)First of all it's not perfect. The non-stick coating is thin on the pan, and can get scratched off easy. Plus, there's no easy way to clean off the brown, spots you get from baking. All that aside, this is a great device if you like homemade, and frozen varieties of pizza.
I used to try all kinds of tricks to get a frozen pizza to taste good. I'd microwave them partially first, I'd bake them directly on the oven rack; I'd try greasing the pan, or not greasing it. I had some success with these techniques, but it was a lot of work. This oven does the job, and gets the pizza cooked the way you want it. An easy flip switch on the top, can turn the heat on both sides, just the top, or just the bottom. You control the crispness, and the degree of browning on your pizza.
This oven is also great for baking those commercial, "take and bake" pizzas, from shops like Pappa Murphy's. Further, its better for reheating leftover pizzeria pizza than your microwave. What more can you want? I wanted just one thing, a 14" model. While most frozen pizza is 12" or smaller, you cannot heat one any larger. One final caution, rising crust pizzas will sometimes bubble, or rise into the top-heating element. It's a good idea to stay in the general area while the pizza is cooking, or it can potentially start a fire.

(More customer reviews)This is a marvelous appliance because it is just so darn simple! I bought one to keep in my office at work for making tea, and it has worked out great!
There isn't even an on/off switch. Just put water in it, plug it in, and a red light goes off when it is ready to pour. Put a mug under the dispenser, push the lever, and there you go!
One reviewer said that it does not have a fill-to line, and so water can spill over. I don't see this as a problem. Just heat as much water as you need. I fill up my mug with hot water, pour the water into the appliance, and dispense the water when it is hot back into the mug. Oddly enough, I get out exactly the same amount as I put in! Don't try to heat more than 16 ounces at a time.
The Hot Shot does only one thing, but boy does it do it well! Easy to use, simple to clean, and attractive on the counter. Love having hot tea without fussing with heating water in the office microwave!

Brother XL2230 31-Stitch Function Free-Arm Sewing Machine with 11 Built-In Stitches Review

(More customer reviews)We ordered 7 of these machines for our school sewing class, and each machine is in use approximately 1-2 hours per week. Upon receipt, one of the machines would not work, and we received a replacement. We have now been using the machines for about 6 weeks, and have consistently had problems with the bobbin casing dislocating and causing the needle to jam or break. The sewing instructor, who has extensive sewing experience, used the word temperamental to describe them and said that they are a nightmare for the frustrated students attempting to learn to sew. They were reasonably priced, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Bissell Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner, 86T3 Review

(More customer reviews)Considering this Big Green is supposed to be a professional grade carpet cleaner, I expected it to be better than my trusty old Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge, F5914-900. The question really is whether or not the Big Green cleans so much better that it's worth the price.
I tested it on an old carpet remnant we've had sitting out in the garage for more than ten years. It has never been vacuumed nor steam cleaned until today. On the left of the screen is my new Big Green. The center is preserved for the "before" comparison. The right is my SteamVac. As you can see, there is an obvious difference in cleaning capabilities. I actually gave my SteamVac an extra whirl because it looked so dirty, but it still looks dirty compared to the Big Green side.
It's hard to tell from the video, but the dark color you see from the SteamVac side is not wetness. The darkness is actually a more muddied appearance, as if the SteamVac had added water to dirt.
I've owned quite a few carpet cleaners and I can say, this Big Green really is the best. Not just because it cleans carpets better. There are many other advantages:
1) The power cord is extra long. I can reach all up and down my long hallway in one stretch. My SteamVac requires me to plug and unplug.
2) The solution tank is extra large. It requires two capfuls of solution, but that will last a long time before needing to be refilled.
3) The collection tank is likewise huge.
4) The hose is long, with a wide head and good suction. It reaches almost up to the first landing of the stairway in my house.
5) Quick drying time.
Of course, there are a few drawbacks:
1) Even with the large solution and collection tanks empty, this thing is *heavy*. It requires me to push and pull with both hands -- a real workout. If you have a bad back, this may not be for you. Also, I'm not keen on carrying this upstairs.
2) There is no convenient storage for the hose.
SUMMARY AND OTHER THOUGHTS
I like my SteamVac. Until now, it was my favorite carpet cleaner, but it's no match for the Big Green.
I love Big Green. It's the best carpet cleaner I've ever had. My husband even noticed the cleaner carpets, and he's not one who'd normally care. If you really want clean carpets, buy this one.
P.S. If you're like me and just take the things out without checking all, there is a bottle of solution and some cardboard inside the collection tank. I cleaned my entire hallway and didn't know until I went to empty the tank. D'oh! No harm done, though.
